Yes the push offs are all over the place for Alabama... Nelson and guards badly. They play very "physical" and get by with a lot.
I don’t mind that Pope is the exception, but I feel like most coaches spend a lot of time working the refs. It’s not that unusual.
Push off and then set an illegal screen. Makes Sears hard to defend
That’s what most winning coaches do. Get in the Ref’s ear early.
Personally, I think Pope could do a little more of it. A little! If you rarely do it, I think the refs take notice, and it might actually be effective at getting some whistles. And a couple extta whistles could get you a W in some close games. Again, a little.
He's smart. It worked for Coach K for years. Hate it all you like but, it's what yo have to do to get a favorable whistle.
You know what, we need Pope to start doing this a bit. Hate to say it, and I hate that we need to. But it is what it is.. Pope can't just play the nice guy all the time.
LOL Oats had each of those referees on a leash by the end of the game. They probably called him daddy when they walked off the court.

As I said, you have to be smart about it. Calipari's ego hurt him with the refs. Big difference from pointing out disparity and questioning calls.

The bottom line is the after we won it rather easily in 2012 the NCAA made a concerted effort to make sure Calipari and Kentucky didn’t win another. Couple that with the football schools being directed by the league office to improve their support for basketball with all the new media money and that’s why we are here today.
I think the days of Kentucky running roughshod over the SEC are over frankly. We’re all going to have to adjust to the new normal.
The camera was on Oats and he was working the refs, pointing to the scoreboard at the foul difference in the 1st half when we had 4 fouls to Bama’s 8.
Immediately the refs called four straight fouls on UK.
You can’t tell me the whining about calls and working the officials doesn’t make a difference. Every timeout he was on the refs while the team was in the huddle.

Every single trip complaining to the refs. My wife said we were in trouble starting the 2nd when he had his offense in front of him. Looked up a couple minutes in and he had the fouls 9-1. Got in the bonus after 6 minutes!
