Would you take Wiltjer back as a graduate transfer?

Cant happen unless he has already graduated and plans to play for us this coming season.:D

Have 5 years to play 4...2012,2013 @ UK - sits 2014, plays for Zags in 2015 and has 2016 left.

I know it would never happen, but he might fill a void at the SF position.

SF?? Wiltjer has never ever been able to competently play "the SF position" because he's wholly incapable of defending out on the wing. Gonzaga figured that out too, that's why they only played him at the 4 and 5 spots this year.

No. He can't defend any players on the court, at any time really.

no - nice thought but no. There is a reason why Kyle left; things haven't changed, so he would be in the same boat as he was before.

Wiltjer isn't going anywhere. He is an all American, playing in a system that utilizes his talents to his advantage. All he was allowed to do here was stand outside and jack up 3's. He has an excellent post game but this part of his game was never taken advantage of here.

Wiltjer isn't going anywhere. He is an all American, playing in a system that utilizes his shooting ability and accepts his limitations (real and self-imposed). All he would ever try to do here was stand outside and jack up 3's. He had some good post moves, but this part of his game he would never try to take advantage of here.

Fixed it.

He is way too smart for that! I wouldn't wish that on him at all. What he is now is an All-American.

Wiltjer is an All-American. Posters on this board may not think that Wiltjer deserves to be an A-A, but Wiltjer is an All-American. That's a fact. How do we let an All-American get away? Was it because we couldn't coach him? Was it because we were unwilling to allow a scheme of play that was to his strengths? I don't know. All I know is that Wiltjer is now an All-American, and we let him go.

My thinking exactly!

Did you watch Wiltjer play during the 2013 season at all?

36% from 3
4 rebs/game
10 pts/game
1.5 assists/game

But the most obvious part doesn't show up in the stat sheet. The is how opposing teams went at Wiltjer nearly EVERY single play because he couldn't defend at all...Combine that with his conditioning that was subpar at best which contributed to only 23 minutes a game because he was such a liability despite being considered a primary offensive threat on a team that struggled to score.

With that being said, the Wiltjer transfer obviously benefited both parties and I wish him the best.

I think that has squat to do with 2015. Obviously a much better player at Gonzaga.

Kyle Wiltjer an All American, lol. I still laugh every time I hear that. Incredible.

Gonzaga....

Obviously. He would not have been THAT player this year at UK though and to suggest otherwise is laughable. His minutes would have been limited and rightfully so. Who would he steal minutes from? Booker? Trey? Willie? Karl?

Or are you suggesting Cal change his whole scheme to what Gonzaga does to fit Kyles game in order for him to have a Gonzaga-esque type of year at UK? Let's be real, Gonzaga (and Kyle) benefitted from playing against very weak competition the entire year and when they did play a top team (Arizona and Duke) they lost. It is what it is...like I said, both parties benefitted from the transfer.

And he left for the right reasons, he didn't fit what we were doing, it happens.

If they change the rules to have the equivalent of a designated hitter in basketball.

Lol at everyone saying no. You guys are saying you wouldn't want an All-American on our team? I understand he has limitations and might not totally fit out style, but come on now.

I needed a good laugh today. Thanks

You're welcome. Although I'll admit, Willis is unproven...could someone show me (statistically at UK) why all the Wiltjer worship and I'm really not trying to bash the kid. I wish him the best and he had a great year at Gonzaga but let's be honest, playing for UK is a little different than playing for Gonzaga.

lol my bad

Willis (will/can be) > Wiltjer while at UK

You don't think thats a possibility?

Anything is possible. Probable? Well Wiltjer's best UK year he put up 10 and 4 with 36% shooting from deep, and everyone talked about how he couldn't cut it. I don't see Willis replicating or exceeding those numbers.

I guess we need to look at who voted him in as an AA than because KW is far from an AA. You can choose to ignore that if you want but know this, he can survive in that little league Gonzaga plays in because the guys he has to defend are unathletically glorified hs level players. It was proven during his time at UK that he can't defend and it affected his offensive game too which made him useless in 2013. Yeah he would hit a couple threes but he would give up 10 points because he backpeddled and moved out of the way on defense seemingly to avoid any and all contact. Maybe he thought he would get cooties IDK but whatever it was it made him look absolutely awful on defense.
Sometimes you have to look at the whole spectrum and not just the positives.

Yep, why we ran him off I'll never understand. He is a heckuva basketball player. Wish he was still here.
