He's like the boogeyman to UNCheat fans. According to them, he is the only reason Cal gets a recruit. Quite funny actually.

I was under the impression that Cal sort of had WWW back off after our 2012 National Championship.

I thought the One and Not Done 30 for 30 managed to bring WWW back to the forefront. He hasn't been discussed in regards to UK in a few years.

Tards too. comments from their scout board:

If anyone believes that Cal and UK don't have to pay players anymore are being super naive. Cal, WWW, and UK have this process down to a science. Not sure how many times our best inside posters and the most knowledgeable posters on other sites have to say the same thing-That UK is a river of filthy money.
I mean come on, this most recent kid was barely even thinking UK and then commits to them out of nowhere. The compensation package offer was made to him and his family and he couldn't refuse.
I couldn't care less though, keep the top players coming there and them flaming out, makes their losses even more fun.

So he is going to have 14 freshman/sophomore this season most playing the same position platoon 2.0. I guess the fear of us potentially being ranked #1, prior to Donovan and JJ going pro,had Cal going all out to get the Super Class (part 4 or 5 whatever) so that he can get UK that 9th championship

Not sure if SB posts here anymore but he's a well respected hs coach in the state who told some great stories on what Devin Booker had in-hand while taking recruits out a few yrs ago. And I know for a fact WWW is treated like royalty when he visits Lexington during the season - chauffeur, meals, hotel, etc. So please don't tell me he's not "involved" any longer.

I just think they do what they have to do to get them. When you have several willing to offer a quarter of a million and up, well, it is a no brainer for those kids that can command that kind of money.

The best one:

I think the money laundering at UK is kept under wraps pretty damn well, plus, the ones who could bring forward credible allegations are very likely afraid for their lives (yes, I believe this).

If these kids were for sale, wouldn't programs proven to cheat recently be the ones most likely to buy them?

My favorite WWW story is that after we won in 2012, Davis bypassed Cal, his teammates, and family to give WWW a big hug. I've yet to see any evidence of this, but I remember it being thrown around a ton after 12. Still makes me laugh.

Never heard that one before but it's the height of ridiculous, if true. I have always seen just the opposite and he and Cal seem to remain very tight.

Doug Compton does all the stuff WWW is accused if and no one even knows who he is. Funny how that works.

Back off from what exactly?

His visibility with the team, hanging around the players. I don't think Cal liked all the photos he was taking on the floor with the players and team after the championship game, because of the perception.

They must have missed where Knox turned down 1.4 mil to play professionally.

What players did he ever hang around? I can't find a single photo of Wes on the floor after the 2012 championship.

It could have been up in the stands near the floor but I remember some of the photos being splashed on this site that night with people whining about it. I've never bought in to his influence and still don't. I do believe he's somebody you want as an ally rather than an enemy.

I'll add that I think he had more "influence" while Cal was at Memphis (with Dejuan Wagner) than he has at Kentucky.

And yet, their coach is the one about to be suspended for Level 1 violations. Our coach has a letter from the NCAA saying he's an "innocent bystander." #HookersintheDorm

I know the stories of money changing hands is just too enticing to turn down for rival fans, but it really just doesn't make sense. I talked to a guy recently - UofL fan, but a pretty good guy, not into all the red vs blue nonsense - and he told me with 100% absolute certainty the Harrison twins had a known price of $80,000. Everyone knew that was the asking price. Which is why Rick never got involved, he "doesn't do those things."

So, to believe that, I have to accept these 2 things (off the top of my head):

1. In the hypercompetitive, multi-billion dollar business, where getting recruits means the difference between being successful and being unemployed, a coach who "knew" that the Harrisons got 80k from UK would not, even anonymously, say anything to the NCAA. Cal is so popular, and has no enemies - maybe that makes it a little more believable, but still. :grimace:

2. If a coach routinely pays for players, eventually you're going to have a kid that doesn't work out. Just doesn't develop like anticipated, so he's not as good as we thought, and doesn't get the playing time, doesn't get drafted. When that happens, about 2% of those players and their parents are accepting of the obvious - the rest want to blame someone. Usually, the coach. Now you've got angry kids and parents with an axe to grind. And yet, no one ever says "Cal gave me money." Makes total sense that no one ever squealed.....

These kids come to UK not because Cal will give the dad $80,000, or whatever, but because they think - they know - that about 9.5 months after getting to UK they are going to be drafted and make millions. 80k is chicken feed.

For the record, after the game, AD ran to MKG and hugged him, followed by a team group hug, long Terrence Jones hug, Doron Lamb hug, then hugged Thomas Robinson as he walked off the court. At no point did he run into the stands or bypass Cal to hug WWW or Phil Knight.

WWW is still close to Cal. He was in Indy sitting by Rondo and other UK connected people. But to think that WWW lives off of UK or Cal is silly. He has much larger priorities. WWW is also very close to a lot of UofL greats. Heck, Milt Wagner was his initial "in" with a lot of famous players (MJ, Pippen, etc.). WWW is also close to a good amount of UofL boosters.

Also, so many of the UK top draft picks have NOT signed with Nike and/or agents associated with WWW that people need to just drop it.

Tards being tards. I absolutely love their irrational, bitter tears. And the delicious irony since their pathetic program is about to go on probation for paying whores to screw recruits and players. [roll]

It's best to just let the Tards keep recycling those tired old stories. Because, really what do they have to look forward to? It would have been funny to get control of the PA system in the Yum Center late in this last season. I'd have put "Hammer To Fall" by Queen on infinite repeat.

That's what cracks me up with UofL fans. Their program gave WWW his start. They wound him up and set the boogeyman loose.

I'll just say it:

I hope Wes is what others claim and are afraid he is, because that is the most balling, outlandish career I can imagine, and anyone that connected and powerful would never be caught.

The fact that they think he's this unstoppable shadow figure but that Cards4LyfeL1C4 with 400 posts knows all about his inner workings is my favorite part. There's just no consistency.

Besides, I hope someone is paying these kids. They deserve it.

What I love is how rival fans always know with 100% certainty that we paid some player X dollars, but somehow everyone on this board is clueless.

You know, the biggest college basketball board out there with the broadest fan base.

You would think some of our people would catch wind.

Wes was connected to a lot of New Jersey players. DaJuan Wagner and MKG being the most prominent to sign with Cal. (I remember reading that he is actually MKG's godfather.) Supposedly he also had connections with Derrick Rose as well. I don't know that he really played a role in any other players signing with Cal. Would be bizarre to see him suddenly pop up in connection with Kevin Knox from Tampa.

Fans of Duke and UNC just don't want to admit that Cal was on Knox very early, had him pegged as the best player in this class and the one he wanted the most, and was relentless in pursuit of him. He usually gets those guys.

They get paid AFTER they ball out at UK. That's the point. UNC makes guys stay for 3 years and Duke turns sure fire lottery picks into benchwarmers. Had to imagine at least some of those guys aren't getting paid to stick around.

Supremely rich to have unc fans discussing cheating of other programs. 30 years of blatant cheating and lying tops them all.

Yes, they see WWW under every rock. They're ridiculous!

Here's what I'll say about WWW. When Calipari was at Memphis, Wes was a guy who was very instrumental in helping to get several elite players to Memphis. I do not doubt Wes is still around, but he's not as actively involved in everything with Calipari. Anyone with any sense should be able to see what Cal has built here. He's not selling kids on playing time, minutes, shots, starting spots, and etc. How many recruits need to say it before people believe it?! He's telling these guys that they're NOT guaranteed a starting spot or minutes. He's telling them they have to EARN it. He's telling them it's not easy. He's telling them UK isn't for everyone. He's telling them we're playing as a team and you WILL play defense. He's telling them that they WILL improve and he will put them in a position to succeed, but he's not coddling anyone. Calipari's record speaks for itself. He's put more guys in the NBA than anyone else and has had more guys succeed also. It's hard to argue with his success. World Wide Wes can't promise anyone anything, period, and he isn't needed to.
