With Derek sidelined, This is Skal's chance to ...........

I think it's important to keep in mind that he's still a cat. He's not there. It's frustrating because he was so highly rated. Matthews isn't doing much either, and we're not killiing him.

Hope he comes back next year.

But you have to understand, Skal has all of those stars because he has a great deal of potential. The value is there. Willis couldn't play for 2+ years, and is killing it. People kept calling or Willis to play. But Skal can't struggle?
Okay but Willis didn't turn it around in one month at the end of the season. You just said it yourself, it took him 2.5 years, Skal doesn't have 2.5 years, he has a month. He won't be here next year because some NBA team will tske him.

Mathews was never thought of as talented enough to be a lottery pick. Why are you trying to throw other players at this?

Everyone develops at their own pace. I'm not saying play Skal, because he's killing us.

But people always act like the stars are the only reason he gets 5 mins per game. Hell, Hawkins an Matthews are getting 5 mins too.

You're making my point.

No one cares that Matthews isn't producing because he wasn't supposed to be a star. Skal isn't ready, so people are killing him. He's a kid. He didn't play much/any real basketball in a year or so before coming to UK.

But just because Rivals/Scout/ESPN told us Skal would be good--he's allowed to having growing pains like anyone else.

Skal gave Cal no choice. Cal started him for 1/2 the season and played him a ton of minutes and he only proved that his hands are weak, he has no knowledge of the game, he can't rebound and he is not ready to thrive at this level.

Proved your point? Are you okay?

Look, the discussion was about Skal stopping up now that Willis is out. You threw Matthews at the topic snd tried to compare his poor play to Skal's. The topic is Skal stepping up, not Matthews' lack of performance.
We always knew Matthews was a 3 or 4 year guy so find another comparison.

You're misinterpreting what I'm saying about Matthews.

It's ok that Matthews isn't producing. Matthews isn't playing poorly. He's doing what we expected of him. And no one's mad. And I don't think that anyone should be mad or frustrated with him.

But we came into the season expecting things of Skal. And now he isn't producing either. And people aren't ok with that. But the reason is that he had expectations.

The point about the stars--there's potential there. He can do things on a basketball court. He's had good games for us.

I hope Cal doesn't play him much. I think having him on the court is a severe detriment to the defense right now. He's absolutely lost.

The difference is that Skal was recruited as our "go to" player in the paint and was being touted as the #1 draft before the season ever started. So far, Skal has been, not only a disappointment, but a farce.

That's literally what I'm saying.

If you didn't expect anything from Cal, you'd be patient and forgiving. Because people told you he'd be great, you're frustrated with him.

Exactly! In this one and done era, I expect Cal to bring in the best....and he usually does, but Skal is a "head scratcher".

It happens. Everyone missed on Skal, not just Cal. I just hope Cal has the strength to make a tough decision and sit the kid. At this point, it's what's best for everyone.

Skal hasn't done anything all year. I don't expect him to miraculously change in the next few weeks regardless how much playing time he gets.

He's best played in 2-3 minute spurts. Bring him out, put up a few jumpers, go sit

Jared Carter over Skal? He is a bust? Cal usually brings in talent but this is a head scratcher? Why was Skal rates so high? You people do realize that one of the main reasons he is rated so high is he is has the ability right? This is the kid the NBA scouts went nuts over when he outplayed Ben Simmons at the Hoops Summit right? Not for one game but the whole weeks worth of practice. He also looked good vs his peers in other all star games. Do you know where Murray made a name for himself at firsr? The Hoop summit.

Skal is weak. And his grasp of the college game is behind. Cal has said it himself that he handled Skal wrong at first so basically he is behind as well. The kid has gotten his confidence shook and I'm going to be honest one of his biggest rebounding problems besides his weakness in his hands when he grabs the ball is he is shoved under the basket when he has position which is illegal but it's the sec and they allow that. If you guys watch the Tamu game there is a reason we got dominated on the offensive glass. We had position often but Lee and Skal and when our guards had to fight for rebounds we are just aloud to be manhandled. Skal is behind in some areas but watch and see if he puts his name in the draft he will go lottery cause when he starts working out for teams in an NBA style offense where shoving guys out of the way is a foul he will impress and he will be gone. You guys remember Andre Drummond? Huge kid a cant miss big 7ft tall with good hands and strength. Pretty much a bust all season at UConn and out of the Lottery and almost out of the first round by the end of his Fresh year. Goes and works out for teams and sky rockets up the boards and now is a solid pro. Some kids just dont adapt the same no matter what their skill level is. After surviving what Skal did maybe he just doesn't handle things the same as most players do. Cal does say he needs to fight more and I agree but he isn't that hard on him. Probably a reason for that. Hope the kid contributes more but he is coming in blocking a few shots and getting a few buckets. So he isnt Vargus either. Wish he would come back a year in the weight room and some confidence and he could be a hell of a player as a soph.

Step up and get significant playing time and help this team..
Think he came in overrated ( Analysts do get it wrong from time to time ) and we're dreaming the impossible dream at least for this year. I really believe he's doing the best he can and he has nothing else to offer at this juncture. His upside is in the future. I hope a lot of his critics eat crow for some of the harsh things they say. Bottom line , it is what it is.
