Just thinking that a big body on him, might slow him down....of course we've never seen Wynyard play yet...but if he plays like the video's we've all seen.....it could be a good match up....

I'm not sure if OP is serious, but if he is I have no idea why he thinks a foreign kid who has never played a minute of Div 1 bball would be a good matchup.

If it were a HS game you'd likely see some "junk defense" like a triangle and 2. Since it's not HS I'd try putting Matthews on him. I think he's quick enough to stay with Simmons. Let Matthews focus only on defense and denying Simmons the ball. Of course we're likely to see multiple people trying their hand at slowing him down. The task will eat up a lot of fouls, I'm afraid.

Hello, does anyone remember we have Alex Poythress on our team? I'm not a fan of Alex on Offense but i believe if anyone is going to do a good job guarding him, its Alex.

Ball denial. Watch and see Briscoe on Simmons until he fouls out. We can afford that. Them Simmons gets his, but we win in the end. Sounds crazy, but I think we will see that some. We can't afford to lose Poy or Lee. They will see spurts on him, along with Mattrews a little.

This is my thought as well. AP is big and strong enough to match up with him down low, and quick enough to guard him out on the floor.

Wynyard guarding him is a horrible idea. Not sure if the op has ever watched Simmons play. The guy handles the ball like a guard and is pretty quick for his size.

Sure, Wynyard might be a big, physical body to throw at him down low, but then LSU will iso Simmons on the perimeter, where he'd easily just blow by Wynyard all night long.

I dont think that Tai getting in to guard Simmons is likely.. that being said Have they ever played each other? New Zealand and Australia are (relatively) close.

Short answer, no. Long answer, nope.

Dude hasn't played one minute of college ball and has only been here for a few weeks. I don't think throwing him out against the best player, and in a rowdy environment, is the best thing to do. He'll get his time eventually, but we have no idea where he's at yet.

WYnyard is not the savior. The should be changed to rupps morons with some of the comments on here. Wynyard is not going to do it this season sorry.

re: the spelling of Simmions, my mind plays tricks on me....

Reminds me of some old stories in the Kentucky High School ranks where a top player or maybe even the starting five of the opposing team would be drawn into fights by the second five of the weaker team. The goal was apparently to get players on both sides thrown out of the game. I don't know whether any of this actually happened. I know I have no experience with it. I just recall the stories from the old timers when I was in high school.

Definitely happened when I was playing. We had a football player that "played" basketball. He never had to be told what his role was, but he knew that if he got in the game, it was his job to seek and destroy.

No, I don't think this would be the game to throw Wynyard in there. If he did get in, he wouldn't likely be defending Simmons.

I will agree that I'm anxious to see what Wynyard can do and I'd love it if he could at least come in and bang and grab some boards, play some defense, and if he could score a few points here and there that would be gravy. I'm thinking the home game against Miss St might be the best chance for Tai to get into a game before garbage time.

"It could be a good match up"??????? LOL. This kid hasn't played one single second of college basketball and you want to throw him out there to guard one of, if not the best player in college basketball?? You think it could be a good match up??

Hey...he plays at UK...one of the walkons could guard the guy:boxing:[banana]

The only way Wynyrad would slow Simmons down is by breaking his neck. LOL Simmons is essentially a very tall guard. He'd run circles around Wynyard.

Just my 2 cents, the best match-up for Simmons from UK would be Lee or Poythress. Both have shown the ability to guard big, mobile players. Other possible candidates could be Skal for short stints and possibly even a guy like Briscoe who is smaller but quicker and very strong. Willis has the size and the length but I don't know if he has the lateral quickness to stay in front of him.

But I don't think anyone in the country can guard Simmons one on one. So, for this reason, I think it will have to be a team effort tonight. That means, we will have to give help as needed, perhaps even double him at times. This is the best strategy against a guy who is determined to get to the rim no matter what- the entire team has to work together to stop him- and I think we can get it done.

I graduated ion 1977 and definitely saw some home cooking. You would aggravate the star player until he hit you, then he got thrown out

Australia and New Zealand have a bit of a rivalry. I say put him in and make him lay into Simmons with some down under trash talk.

Nope...he's not quick enough to guard Simmons...he'd get into foul trouble after 3-4 possessions. Alex is the best/only option. Marcus would out in not time flat.

GBB!!!!
