More like…where are the boosters?Mitch is sacrificing the success of the program just to attempt to save face. Where is the President?
It’s not the boosters problem that we have a foolish athletic director.More like…where are the boosters?
Why no on the hiring?Hopefully yes on the firing, and a huge NO on the hiring.
Why no on the hiring?
You have no idea what you are talking about. We've seen the "latest and greatest" so called gurus come and fail here.....Ray, Curry, Mumme, Claiborne. Brooks brought stability, but he didn't accomplish anything special anywhere. Sumrall is the new hot name, but you at least have to check off a more tenured and accomplished name that has seen this level of competition on a consistent basis.
Not great examples. I wasn't around for Ray, so I can't speak as to that. Curry was on the hot seat at Alabama and their fans were happy to see him go. Mumme was a Division 2 coach and was very much an "outside the box" hire. Claiborne had an excellent history but was well into the twilight of his career. But, we could, when and if, we have an opening, look for the proven winner at the highest level. Good luck finding one to come here. We've seen the "latest and greatest" so called gurus come and fail here.....Ray, Curry, Mumme, Claiborne. Good Lord, your football takes are about as bad as your takes on the baseball forum.Hopefully yes on the firing, and a huge NO on the hiring.
Who would you hire? We've seen the "latest and greatest" so called gurus come and fail here.....Ray, Curry, Mumme, Claiborne. Name some names of who you think would come here and be successful.Yes, they are. Ray was the HOT DC for the Irish. Curry went 9-3 and 10-2 for Bama....what the fans wanted is irrelevant. Mumme was the so called offensive wiz in all of football.
I’ve never seen Sumrall referred to as a “guru” of anything. He’s just a ball coach who is about winning. No gimmicks. We've seen the "latest and greatest" so called gurus come and fail here.....Ray, Curry, Mumme, Claiborne. Brooks brought stability, but he didn't accomplish anything special anywhere. I guess Sumrall needs to go 15-0 at Ohio State before Cole854 would sign off on him to come to KY
In three full seasons Sumrall is 24-2 in October, Nov and December.
Lol. None of those guys you mentioned were ever the "latest and greatest" to anyone in the college football universe. Mumme was the closest thing. We've seen the "latest and greatest" so called gurus come and fail here.....Ray, Curry, Mumme, Claiborne. And what more does Sumrall need to prove at the levels he's coached at to merit deserving a chance at a P4 school?
None of those guys were getting hired by programs bigger than UK when UK hired them. Just stop. You can't possibly be clueless enough to think that if Alabama actually wanted to retain Curry, they wouldn't have, right? Him leaving Bama to come to UK was about like Cal leaving UK for Arky or Tubby leaving for Minny.Yes, they are. Ray was the HOT DC for the Irish. Curry went 9-3 and 10-2 for Bama....what the fans wanted is irrelevant. Mumme was the so called offensive wiz in all of football.
I understand your point and it's valid. However, hiring a homerun HC is a crapshoot, at best. Look no further than Mark Pope. Many people on this board were against his hiring saying 'He can't recruit here', 'BYU is NOT UK', 'not enough experience', etc. Thus far, looks like he's perfect for UK.You never know who will be successful, especially here. We've seen this play out. Who in the hell knows about names until they drop their hats in the ring. I'm just saying you don't go all in on a coach who has 2 years at Troy and 1 at Tulane......that is asinine.
As stated a thousand times, UK can't fire stoops and pay him 44 mil. On top of that, I don't think Mitch even would anyway or even wants to. To him he sees "just one bad year". Sumrall is gonna get another job in a couple months most likely. If you're a Kentucky fan you want to root for him to go to a place on par or lesser than UK so we can still pull him from there when the time comes. Thank goodness Florida stuck with their guy and Florida state will do the same because if JS ends up at a place like that then Kentucky probably ain't getting him away.
If you dont get Sumrall now you never will and he will be in the playoff year in and year out were ever he goesFolks the cult of Sumrall is going to have to chill out. I mean it is out of control. It’s pretty clear he will be coaching somewhere else that more than likely is a better gig by the time this one opens up.
The wish lists need to be guys who aren’t quite popping yet like Sumrall is.
Guys who aren’t quite hot yet but warm. Not sure there’s a defined criteria for that other than if they’re in mainstream sports media discussions it’s probably too late for us.
The way I see it Sumrall to UNC would not necessarily be a bad spot for Kentucky, as our chances of pulling him from UNC at a later time would at least seem to be realistic. OTOH if he were to land at an Auburn or a Florida, it would be much more difficult.
As for Stoops contrary to what some think, Stoops could find another coaching job, Purdue has been mentioned but there are other possibilities. If so a negotiated deal could be worked out whereby UK would pay him some part of the difference in salaries. That kind of a deal is how a lot of these situations end.
Unless he retires and walks away from the money (he's not), this is the only way you can get it done. Problem? Just like anyone who has something to sell (a washed football coach in this scenario), you have to have a buyer. Just hope Hunter Yurachek isn't the only incompetent AD looking for a coach. As for Stoops contrary to what some think, Stoops could find another coaching job, Purdue has been mentioned but there are other possibilities. Nothing is happening until national signing day is in the books. The portal officially is ready to open and more than likely Sumrall's current team is thru for the year - at least officially. Tomorrow is a really big day for Stoops and Marrow. They have lost some really good pieces to the future in the last week. If we lose a lot more tomorrow - then additional pressure will happen and the people with the power will decide what happens to UK football. As fans, we have to remember the true golden rule in this country. He who has the gold - makes the rules! At the moment that is Stoops - but it could change! If you dont get Sumrall now you never will and he will be in the playoff year in and year out were ever he goes

These records don't tell a full story. Let's be honest in acknowledging that Stoops would probably have a better record against Troy/Tulane opponents, and Sumrall would probably have a worse record against UK's opponents. Billy Napier had a great record against the Sun Belt too.To expand on this thought using the last three full seasons (since that’s Sumrall’s head coaching tenure):
Mark Stoops 2022-2024: 18-20
Jon Sumrall 2022-2024: 32-7
I’ll gladly take my ‘chances’ with Sumrall.
So we stay with a coach that let's his players run amuck and has the program now in the same state that he inherited . That's really asinineYou never know who will be successful, especially here. The reason those places decided to stick with their current coach is also the buyout. As stated a thousand times, UK can't fire stoops and pay him 44 mil.
