Why UK needs Lane Kiffin! And he needs UK?

He wouldn't be my first choice but I could get behind Kiffen.

He has lots of experience and people typically learn from past mistakes.

I see him as a high risk / high reward, which is worth the risk for a program like Kentucky.

He's not my first choice or second choice for that matter. It won't be an easy task if stoops gets fired to get any of the coaches that most people have been naming. Mitch would have to throw out a huge contract to get any of those coaches. I just think he may be a good choice. Man was an nfl coach in his early thirties. Winning record as a head coach including at a school hit with extremely tough punishments from the Carroll era. He's now been working for Saban and you know that learning from one of the best has to be beneficial.

I didn't know he left them in that bad of shape 7 years ago in his one season there. I thought the Dooley coaching era is what they were recovering from.

He won 7 games, 2 more than Fulmer the year before and then left right in the middle of recruiting which crushed UT's class and left UT scrambling for a coach after one year. The late season scramble ended with Dooley. The Kiffin debacle set UT back.

I didn't know that. I had no idea what you were talking about. id say that did set them back when they hired ole Dooley. Kiffin wouldn't be my top choice by any means but most names people throw out there I don't think Mitch could get them here if they have to fire stoops.

We'd take hostages and force feed them their own eye balls to have the talent Kiffin did at UT and USC (even with them being hit by the NCAA) ...... Its not just a step above our own... Its a whole god damn staircase above us.

winning 62% with that much talent is average at best....

Besides we need a coach who has experience producing wiith not so talented players.... experience with having to coach up players to win games........... guys like Brohm or Fleck ...etc..

Kiffen would not be on Saban's staff if he was a bad coach. Maybe he isn't head coach material but what is the worst He could do go 2-10, like we haven't seen that before :flush:. Plus if we hire him and he sucks we get to continue the UK football tradition of talking about who our next coach will be

Kiffin, as a head coach, has proven he is hard to work with and can cause you more problems than he's worth.

How many violations did he have in his short stint at UT?

It's not just a matter of offering the Head Coach a big contract. You have to pony up for the assistants as well if you want to attract a HC worth a damn. In another thread it was well stated how UK handcuffed Curry by forcing him to go cheap on assistants. A HC is a CEO type. The real coaching and recruiting is done by the staff. The HC success will be determined by the success of his staff.

I don't know if Lane still has the same connections, but that one year he was at UT he brought in the most expensive staff in the country. I will say that about Lane, he knew how to build a staff. I was surprised the UT AD went along with it, considering how Fulmer complained about that very issue when he was HC. Lane's dad was paid well over a million a year. Guys like Orgegron(sp?) was paid almost a million per, and he was a position coach.

UK will have to give the HC a blank checkbook so he can hire whoever he wants to hire. UK can't put handcuffs on a new coach. No proven HC candidate will go there if UK pulls that stunt again.
