1. Many of them really thought they could win, with UL dominating cupcakes and UK losing a couple games, and "experts" picking the Cards to upset UK.
2. With sanctions and penalties looming, this could have been Rick's last chance to win in Rupp.
3. Rick's one and dones (grad transfers) are clearly the best players on the team, and this was their one shot.
4. UK's incoming class next season, along with possible solid returnees, along with the Cards' personnel losses and pending sanctions hurting recruiting, means a likely beat down at the YUM next season.

Can anyone think of other reasons this loss was particularly painful?

8 > 1 says it all.

Every year Little Brothel has Fool's Gold with their weak, weak OOC schedule, this game wasn't as close as the final score showed,UK is young and learning, but had them down double digits for most of the game, freshman mistakes allowed them back in it along with officials who don't call everything and have thrown the new rule changes out the window.UK had 19 fouls to UL's 21,but UK had at least 3 key players in serious foul trouble which was more of a factor for UK's play than UL's.
Pitino has turned into a sour grapes ,classless, pos, that skips every press conference when he loses and cannot control his emotions against opposing fans, stooping to low life street thug behavior, flipping UK Fans off as he left the court for saying 9 -1 to him.Amazing how you can't shut him up when beats some cupcake at home and runs up the score like a classless pos.

I will go a lot further than likely beat down. UK will pummel them, next year, regardless of where it's played. That will make them 1-9 against Cal, that is if we don't meet in the NCAA this year. Cal will have a .900 winning percentage against them. That is unbelievable, and I don't know how anyone can still consider it a rivalry. It has become Cal's annual turkey shoot.

Just one,it was so clse they could taste it and really believe it was happening, then we closed the door in their face. That's gonna leave a mark.

Dam friend you nailed it pretty good there.

One consideration you might want to include: when the crypt keeper leaves in disgrace, who is going to want to coach at that pit of prostitution? Could be the beginning of an even longer dry spell.

They had 2,000 teenagers from the West End of Louisville take over the Mall St. Matthews last night. The police had to be called and the Mall closed down. Fights, shoplifting, reports of gun fire, etc.
Typical night of family fun for Louisville fans.
Classy Fans just like their classy coach, good thing there weren't any restaurant tables handy

Thanks sambowieshin. I didn't know if this was just a rumor. Unfreak'n believable. This probably deserves its own thread. Hope you will do the honors.

I've thought that for a long time. Probation is going to make that even harder

They've been having troublemakers showing up at east end malls and starting trouble a lot. So this could just be an escalation of an ongoing problem and have nothing to do with the game.

OP did nail it but #2 should be #1. They know the "ride" ends this year and they are looking at a rebuild.

The ACC has to be soooo proud of their new additions. 2 of the three in the NCAA dog house along with its golden child faking degrees. Should rename it the QCC. Quality Cheating Colleges.

Yesterday's loss wounds Pitino for 2 huge reasons. First is that he brought a team to Lexington that was every bit good enough to beat Kentucky. Pitino's team was hot, and he was catching Kentucky at a very vulnerable time when our players' confidence was at a season low. Murray had his worst game as a Wildcat, Briscoe missed the game with an injury, and Labissiere gave us nothing. Everything was ripe for a Louisville win yesterday. But Ulis and Hawkins had their best games as Wildcats, and Poythress was dominant in the 1st half. Whereas Calipari has a big talent edge over Pitino most years, this year Pitino should have won the game. But Calipari's players rose to the occasion, while Pitino's players could not get over the hump. The result of the game reaffirms that Calipari is the better game coach, which is a real kick in the nuts for Pitino. In the TV interview, Pitino tried to blame the refs, which clearly shows how sensitive this was for him. Second reason is that the Lexington crowd really worked him over brutally yesterday. Pitino was once the fair haired boy in Lexington. But he has been a large size jerk since leaving Lexington. The fans in Lexington hate him now, and yesterday's dramatic crowd disapproval was an unmistakable symbol of how far he has fallen.

It's almost certain that it will be some young guy trying make a name or some geyser trying to cling to a dying career. In the ACC, that's a recipe for disaster.

I agree completely. It will definitely be interesting to watch what happens with that program over the next few years

The main reason is because UL cut a 16 pt 2nd half deficit to 1 with just under 6 minutes but could never catch UK.

Bitter pill to swallow right there.

Love it^^^

Plus, it's crazy to think how close our "NIT Team" played them in the only game the Cards did manage to win--- 80-77 in Louisville.

It was their one chance to score a significant win in the OOC to improve their seed when tournament time comes
No matter how bad their future, they could have held onto this one win against us as the positive of their year, now they cannot

And they won the championship. They almost were national champions but only 2nd best in Ky to an NIT team, that lost in the first round.

if pimptino thinks our fans were bad after losing to us.....does he honestly think duke, unc and Virginia are going to welcome him with open arms. can't wait for those tards to go on the road to those places and play. they will make him a national joke as if he isn't already. and the future is only gonna bring them more anguish and lots of embarassment .

The next few years will be even worse for Ricky P and the Tards. This was their last chance and they knew it.
