Why No Home and Home w/Duke?

They've said that they refuse to play at Rupp due to the hostile crowd the last time they played there. It was an NCAAT game against Indiana

I'm fine with meeting them in the NCAAs for our second win over them this season,:)

I think MJ at one point said this was seriously being discussed. It might have been on neutral courts instead of home and home, but I think he mentioned there being discussions of playing somewhere during the years they weren't playing each other in the champions classic. I'm really rattling my brain for this, so I may be wrong, but I feel it was discussed and fell through.

In addition to both teams not wanting to play in the others hostile arena theres absolutely no money in playing in Dukes tiny gym. Believe Cameron Indoor holds 9,314. Kentucky could bring 9,314 to a practice. Its much more practical to have games with Duke in a large neutral site.

Why is that?
As said above me, they both prefer the neutral court for a game like that. I think both of them would look at it as an automatic loss. We also have never really played a home and home with them like UL or UNC, so I guess that keeps our meetings a little more special.

I'd be all for it, but just don't see it happening.

Yeah Coach K got ahead of the curve and realized how biased officiating is towards the home team in college basketball. It's really a bad problem that the media doesn't wanna talk about. So he has taken the stance that Duke will not play on an opponents court unless it's in conference or dictated by the conference office (ACC/Big 10 challenge) I used to criticize K for this but the officiating has gotten so bad that I've changed my mind and think it's a very pragmatic forward thinking stance.

Dookie's know, and have even admitted, they're in for an automatic ass whippin' in Rupp,
while we'll always have a good shot to win in their high school gym.

Didn't they want to have a game at Cameron and a supposed neutral site game up in New Jersey or something like that?

Duke wanted to play in East Rutherford (largest concentration of Duke grads in US), one game in Cameron and one game in Indy. Wasnt that their last offer?

Something like that. How sweet of splinter to offer two
Neutral sites in exchange for cis.
Loved that Indiana beat that duke team.
K, in the pre game press said something like he felt like he was home with all
The k's around.
Then I remember an Indiana player saying he walked through rupp and heard some duke staff/players talking about who they would meet in the elite 8 game.
That backfired nicely.

Speaking of home and homes what happened to North Carolina this year? I thought we renewed the series? http://espn.go.com/blog/north-carol...id/12357/north-carolina-kentucky-renew-series
Cal didn't like that both the Louisville and North Carolina games were either both home or both away every season. So we helped create that event with Ohio State, North Carolina, and UCLA. It's my understanding we play North Carolina in that event on a neutral court next year and then the home and home series will resume. So every year one of North Carolina and Louisville is a home game and one is an away game.

you know what's crazy about that game?
How many UK fans were cheering for IU to win - because we all still hated Duke so bad
question now - who would you pull for between the two at this point?

I like the mystery of not having seen them play each other should they meet in the tourney. Similar to the argument that inter-league play in baseball detracts from the World Series.

To me Duke is what I call a playoff rival through the many decades. Have been some excellent games win or lose. UNC is the rival I favor doing home & home annually.. Still want KU in Rupp next year tho

I do think season ticket holders deserve a couple of big name made to TV games at Rupp each year.

Pretty lame excuse, since there were not 100 UK fans in the entire arena. I know, because I was there. IU was fairly close, and brought a bunch of fans. Rat Face doesn't want to get his butt kicked like UL does.

I think it was actually more about UK fans coming to the open practice in 1998, when Duke was the #1 seed in our region. Our fans heckled Duke throughout. One guy held up a sign reading, "Wojo sucks!"

But . . . this was AFTER Krzyzewski complained about being sent to Lexington, citing the '92 game as evidence of UK fans not liking Duke.

Frankly, that's when I think a lot of UK fans turned on Krzyzewski for good. Remember, he was "classy" in victory in '92, coming to the microphone to congratulate UK/its fans on a hard fought game.

Then, to have him pull this in '98, it really ticked some fans off.

Then, we beat them in Tampa!

If you thought the officiating was bad at phog, just imagine how it would be playing in Cameron

Would offer the highest ratings of just about any game all year. Thoughts?

Until Rupp offers even a fraction of home-court advantage as Cameron, I want no part.

A Home and Home with Duke just helps the Blue Devils. No thanks.

Personally, until something is done about the library-setting of Rupp Arena, I don't want any Home and Homes. Neutral sites for me.

Is Cal's 97% winning percentage at Rupp not enough of a home-court advantage for you?

Hard to say. I struggle with why we win at home so much.. It's either having an entire starting 5 that's going to the NBA, or Gramps in the stands waving a blue flag before he falls asleep by the 2nd TV timeout.

What's sad, is that's the 2nd time in a week I had to sarcastically post such a thing (spoiler: it's not a family with 6 kids in the stands that's getting us wins).

Kentucky is probably 80% winning percentage on Neutral sites, and that's WITH tournament competition 100x better than the cupcakes and weak-SEC teams we play at home.

Do people really think our winning percentage is due to Rupp Arena?

And it's not so much that I'm worried Cal/Kentucky can't win games at home, it's that I don't feel like getting jobbed on the road. Sports, in their simplest form, are about who's better in a particular skill or set of skills. Why should home games turn into some form of equalizer for lesser quality teams? If you want to see who's better, Neutral site games. I have no desire to give some lesser team an added advantage. You want to beat Kentucky? Recruit better. Spend more money on the program. Use marketing to garner fans, sell tickets to make revenue.

Cal is really good at home. Not bad elsewhere, but great at Rupp. Everyone talks about how great a venue that Cameron is, and after watching last night's game with UL, I am not that impressed. They always show the students, opposite the cameras, but last night, they had some mobile cameras showing views of the other side, with regular season ticket holders. After seeing that, nobody should complain about Rupp crowds. None of those people were standing, or cheering. It was way worse than our season ticket holders.

I do not want a home and home with Duke but the big games at Rupp are loud and charged up. Sure, it's crickets for the also rans and the SEC bottom feeders but man I can remember some games you couldn't hear yourself think.

Coach K and Duke are having one of the worst seasons in 25 years. What is this, the first time they've been unranked in a decade? That's why Cameron wasn't rocking. Normally, you have a 3-loss Duke time at this point, fighting for a #1 seed... that game, against a ranked conference opponent, is normally a mad house.

Before yesterday, there was a real good chance Duke would miss the tournament. That's why fan support dropped.

Rupp is not .. Cameron, Allen, The Pit, The Zoo, Bud Walton, Dean Dome, Xfinity Center.. and probably another 20 more venues. Shouldn't be that way. There's no reason Kentucky's home court shouldn't be top5. We do a good job of filling seats, filling lots of them, and presenting a very historic venue.. but that's it. And honestly, lots of high profile players aren't going to be fazed simply because they are playing in front of 23,000 familes, old-timers, and quiet alum.

Yes, I'm sure it does get amped for big games. And I guess it makes sense why no one cares about a lowly SEC team coming to town. I'll concede to that.

But it should be better. Much better.
