What are the Dukies saying?

Not sure if anyone will agree with me but I thought Scheyer made a mistake by not setting up Flagg at the end and preferring to let him create his own shot. Yeah, he is a great player but he is also only 17. That is a LOT of pressure.
Well, he had done everything up to that point pretty well... even hitting a 3, so it was prolly an easy decision to let him go create...

#1 projected NBA pick...

If he had tried something else that didn't work, ... say... Flagg got double-teamed and never saw the ball, and Duke lost, he would have been questioned about not letting him handle the rock, last play...

I don’t know where to find their free content. I was just curious what they said about the game and thoughts about Pope in general.
One of the things they're saying on their free message board..... Duke Hoops Open Forum..... Is that if Calipari was still coaching UK that he would have found a way to lose the game by double digits. And that Pope is an upgrade over Calipari.

My son sent me some screen caps of one of their boards. The consensus seemed to be that Sheyer got out coached and didn't use his bench.

On the rivals board some of them are saying K went to iso ball his last 7 years and Sheyer is simply continuing that. They compare themselves to UK under Cal in that they don't run any plays. Just give someone the ball and clear out. Saying they got outcoached and that if Cal was still here they would have won easily. The most amazing thing to me was their game discussion was only 6 or 7 pages compared to 55 here.

Time to go work out for the new Star Wars movie!

I’ve never seen that with the blaster effects! Hahaha classic.

A lot of PMSing (fans). Cramps and what not. Was so glad the backward hat wearing, bearded GAF's night was ruined. They showed him multiple times flexing and popping his Duke shirt. Poor fella, had to dry his eyes with the shirt afterwards. Saw several Duke fans with the backward hat, WTF is up with that ? Thier fan base always struck me as too stuffy for that trend,,,, that went out in early 2000's. Grown ass men (over 40) wearing their hat backwards was NEVER in style, but there he was on national tv. SO happy for him.

The NCAA Selection Committee:
“Since Duke players cramped on and off this season, we are taking away any L in which the lil beaches cramped. Thus, Duke is the overall number 1 seed.”
The NET will adjust accordingly as well.

:flush:

Because Shyler had no timeouts, when Duke inbounded with ten seconds left, Shyler couldn't set up anything, so he was probably fine with Flagg bringing the ball up. If he had a time out I'm sure he might have drawn something better up. I thought he got his team to play hard for 38 minutes. And i'm hoping we don't have to play them again.

None of the Duke fans I know are sold on Scheyer. He's done well enough in guess.. but we'll enough does t cut it when you have the elite talent every year.

Objectively, if Duke fans can say we won because of some very mild cramps, they must also acklowledge they only beat Houston last year because of Shead being out (their best player). But weirdly, you don't hear that from them..

True but they did miss a LOT of open 3's. That may turn out to be their Achilles heel.
I don't really think that's a weakness for them since they'd been great from 3 going into this game. I think it was a combination of the ball they weren't used to and fatigue(Pope played his starters a lot less minutes) and UK playing pretty good defense.

I know what I'd be saying if I were a Duke fan, though I have never been and will never be one of those. I'd say we knew we weren't going 40-0 and we weren't going to beat Kentucky every game for eternity and we've got a real good team. As a UK fan who thinks we have a Final 4 chance, I'd rather not play them again this year.

Duke doesn’t actually have fans, just guys who like to say they’d Duke fans. Because they saw 2pac wearing a Duke jersey once.

Maybe they can all throw their protractors on the court at the next home game.
Think computers have largely curtailed protractor use.

I interestingly heard recently that Tupac was really just a made up persona. He was gay, effeminate, and into plays, acting, the like. I am not criticizing or intending to sound derogatory at all. Most dook fans btw didn’t attend the school or have any connection, but rather they’re just bandwagon losers.

There was a popular guy at my high school who loved Duke, I’m like come on you poser. Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky are the teams around here. You were born here so how do you like Duke? Prolly because he saw Tupac wearing the jersey that makes sense. Proper time period for sure,

Dook did just the opposite. They smothered the first half, but were absolutely gassed the second and could no longer go tip-to-tip. Scheyer tried to win it by halftime, whereas Pope was content to play 40 minutes. One would think if your team was suffering from craps in each of their games this season they would have spaced out the defensive pace a bit if rotations were going to be limited in the back court.

Really surprised Dook didn't blame the Spalding basketball (https://wildcatbluenation.com/mark-...y-helped-kentucky-take-down-duke-01jcky2e3tx6) for their poor perimeter shooting!
Not making an excuse for them at all, but Spalding's I hated with a passion in high school. Those and the Moltens were horrible for me as a shooter. When we played with Wilson's, which was most of the time, it was splash City.

Personally I wish I could get most of the posters on here to film themselves shooting 20 3s from anywhere and see whose the best shooter. Hell even bet on it.

I read through some of that. Nothing too egregious. They were mostly focusing on what Duke might/should have done differently. Some were blaming poor shooting, some upset with Scheyer. Here are a few quotes that stood out though…

“We shot horribly but still competed against a very tough team. I tip my hat to Kentucky. They played really hard and locked us down in the second half.”

“I love Scheyer, but he got out-coached in a big way tonight”

“UK is going to have a good season. They are very quick and athletic.”

Oh and apparently there were a few fans in that thread expecting to go undefeated 😂

I have a good friend who is a Duke fan. He has been very loud and proud the last few years. Last night I had to actually text him and make sure he was okay since he was being so quiet.
Duke nation is tired of losing to teams that they have more talent than. It's causing a lot of doubt in Scheyer's ability to X and 0 the team to success.

Tennessee beat them to death in the 2023 tournament. In 2024, NC State embarrassed them in the Elite Eight.

Now, UK with its roster of fringe g-league guys, showed them up in the final few minutes of a marquee game.

This was supposed to be Scheyer's year to show that he can get it done. He's still crapping the bed when it comes to elite sideline production. There's going to be a real pressure on him if he fails to get this squad to the Final Four.

He is comparable to Joker in that he was pretty much the coach in waiting and hand picked by K to be his replacement. He is not experienced enough to be in that position and wasn't smart enough to go out and hire an experienced staff to help him.

Champions Classic 3-Point Shooting Stats:

Kentucky: 40% (10-25)
Kansas: 29% (5-17)
Duke: 17% (4-23)
Michigan State: 12% (3-24)

Kentucky, Duke, and Michigan State all use Nike basketballs. Kansas uses a Wilson basketball (Wilson balls are typically used in the NCAA Tournament).

Stats support your hate for the Spalding ball. Good thing Pope had the team practice with it leading up to the game.

As for your challenge, I'll go ahead and mark myself in the bottom quartile at age 48 and not in basketball shape. I'd be better off filming myself in a Nerf basketball dunking contest!

Scheyer seems to be a young version of Cal, and that's not going to make Duke fans happy after 42 years of only knowing Coach K.

The odds were very probable that Duke would have a falloff after K. He's their Rupp, you don't just go out and replace that.
