Why even have the BS Barnhart and Cal interview?

Because Arkansas job wasn't offered to Cal until several others said no. At the time of that meeting, Arkansas wasn't even in the mix. It's my understanding it all came on literally over the weekend.
Well it seems Cal was working on things without letting Barnhart know. One post claims Cal looked into the Ohio St. job back in February. I think Cal was wanting to prove that other schools still had interest in him.
Cal wasn't leaving. He tried to go to ohio state, but it opened too early. Arkansas wasn't open during the interview.
The official message two weeks ago was Cal staying at Kentucky because no good options were open for Calipari. He had been considering getting out for awhile. Arkansas opening up was perfect because of his Tyson friendship and he clearly was interested at least to use it as leverage for more NIL money at Kentucky. But it was leaked and Mitch saw the free way out and held him to it
I think it was a part of fall-back plan in case Plan A didn't work out. Plan A was Calipari looking at various schools and their situations as the coaching carousel began to spin and try to find a place that he liked and fit him. If that didn't work out, they'd still have this fallback position of another year at UK in place. I think Mitch and Calipari both knew it was purely theater and buying time.
