Yeah, thanks. I saw that. I was just curious as to what roles they played in the Pitino and Kentucky basketball inner circle. There are millions of fans and maybe tens of thousands of boosters, but how were these guys people who were allegedly able to persuade Pitino to come to Louisville?

If I remember correctly one of those names was partners in Pitino's former Italian Restaurant he had in Lexington and the others were Lexington Businessmen as well.I don't remember the full story or people involved,but at the time a lot of people were disillusioned with Tubby and there were some Traitors that jumped ship to Louisville following Pitino,but he underestimated the power of the Big Blue Nation

Would really like to know the whole truth of how that hire went down. With Rick I feel like we will never know any truths that have transpired throughout his entire career.

He even lied and bent the truth during his tenure at UK in regards to players health, off court dealings, business associates, and boosters.

Did he want to come back to UK? Did they even offer? Was UL a destiny job for him at that time? I do know for a FACT that the Boston failure has always bothered him and still eats at him even today.

Only a couple of things to add and this is absolutely dead-on...
RP not only went to UofL because of his massive ego and being turned away by UK, he also knew he could leverage a lot of money out of UofL simply because of his history being the UK coach. He knew that UofL was desperate to "own" this state and they would pay thru the nose for the chance to do just that. UofL and the RP carpetbaggers (as someone put it so well) both had skin in the game, tying their futures to RP being successful at UofL.
With the scam/con job that is the Yum! Center being paid for by taxpayers, they thought they could finally become the premier program in KY.

Except, one thing shut all that ego and those grand plans down...John Calipari.
I firmly believe he is the only coach UK could have hired that would have prevented RP and UofL's plan from being atleast partially successful. Cal's dominance in recruiting and ownership of the rivalry series has directly led to Hooker-Gate IMHO.
Recruiting isn't only about bringing the best players in. It's also about building your program's brand and reputation. Don't think it matters? Look at the NBA All-Star weekend that just concluded. How many former UofL players did you see there?

I'm not enough of an insider to know. Who are Rick Avert, Brent Rice and Ron Carmicle? I follow the program fairly closely, albeit from out of state these days, but I never recall hearing their names back in those days. Were they UK boosters-turned-Louisville boosters? I hope if they were local businessmen, that appropriate boycotts by UK fans followed.

Rick Avare is one of his business partners in Toyota on Nicholasville and the Lexus store. His son is a walk on at UL.

For Spurrier to go South Carolina is comparable to a situation where Pitino had gone to Auburn. No UK fan would have cared.

The Saban thing is a bit closer, but Alabama and LSU are not rivals on the same level as UK and Louisville. A better example would be, if Saban ends up going to Auburn. That would make Alabama fans very salty.

I'm not sure how soft drink products are really relevant to a discussion about college sports.
