Pac 12, Big 10, Big 12, SEC, ACC

Pac 12 - Sean Miller, Recruits better than any school in the country, other than UK,Duke & Kansas. Yet has never sniffed a Final 4

Big 10 - Thad Matta, At one time I thought he might he might be a good choice to coach here. But not any more.

Big 12 - Bill Self, Builds up a gaudy record in a nothing conference. Then despite getting a 1,2, or 3 seed pretty much every year, they ( KU ) falls flat on their faces seems like every year in the round of 32 or the sweet 16.

SEC - Bruce Pearl. Yeah, yeah I know he didn't inherit a blue blooded goldmine at Auburn. But he's been there 3 years & hasn't even made the NIT.

ACC - Roy Williams, If this cheatin P.O.S. had to play by the same rules as everyone else. What would his record be.

Any list without Leonard Hamilton on it is not a complete list. 27 years as a Power 5 head coach, 1 conference title and has made it out of the first weekend of the NCAA Tournanent twice in his 27 years, losing in the Sweet 16 both times. How the guy still has a Power 5 job is beyond me.

Yeah no kidding. And it's not like he doesn't recruit well considering how few wins he has. Other than Matta none of the names on the OPs list are over rated.

not sure about all the conferences but Alford over Miller in the pac 12. I think Peral will get Auburn up in the top 3 or so of SEC, his recruting is pretty damn good.

Lock for the Overrated HOF.

Cuonzo Martin is probably a good one to include. It's clear he can reasonably recruit, but he's going to have to stay at one school longer than 1-2 years, and actually win, to convince me he's legit. UT, Cal and now Mizzou all in what, 5 years? I've seen many of our UK brethren say the same thing - what's with the hype on a guy that never stays in one place, and even in that short time, has really done nothing?

If you think Self and Roy are the most over-rated coaches in their conferences then you have your blue tinted shades on. Can't stand either but c'mon.

I agree with you. Self and Roy are not overrated. They are two of Top 5 coaches.. Add Mike K and Cal to that list. The other is probably Izzo.

Self
Alford
Izzo
Barns
Brothal boy who always under performs come tourney time

Dean Smith is numero uno to me. The titles were gifts. Had more talent than most. Nearly ruined BB with the cowardly 4 corners

Jim borheim is definitelt the most "overrated". BE traditional power program, state school for basketball of New York etc. completely overrated for how his name recognition is.

Named the court after him?

Lol.
Accolades come with longevity not actual results. Just look at the names in the coaching halls of fame. So many are there because they coached for eons without winning.

If it is a Hall of Fame, it should include the truly great coaches only.

While I agree that he underachieved based on talent, 11 Final Fours, 2 National Championships (regardless of the errant pass and time out call), 879 wins and an Olympic Gold Medal are far from overrated.

Don't people use the phrase "never sniffed" to signify someone was so far from something that they could not even smell it, let alone taste or touch it? Sort of like the opposite of "so close he could almost taste it." He's never been to Final 4, but he took Xavier to an Elite 8 (Xavier's first ever), and Arizona to an Elite 8 in 2011 (beat #1 seed Duke as a 5 seed in the Sweet 16, lost by 2 points to 3 seed UConn), 2014 (lost in OT to Wisconsin), and 2015 (lost to Wisconsin by 7; same Wisconsin team upset undefeated UK the next game). That's sniffing the Final 4. Never been to one? Sure.

Anyway, most of the rest of your list is eh (Roy with Hamilton and Boeheim available? Self?, who rates Matta all that highly in the first place?).

You are correct about his overall record. I guess I dispised the 4 corners so much that I am willing to overlook that. And I don't have much love for UNCheats either. : )
