Who would have thought that New York would have brought out the best in Karl Towns?

I remember how most NBA fans had viewed Towns as an asset they didn't want on their team. When Towns was rumored to be heading to NYC a few years ago, Knicks fans were irate and wanted no part of him.

Now, he looks like his team's MVP on a team that's 20-10.

I'm not a big fan of the NBA, as I think it's presently a shizz product, but I love Tows and I'm happy he's playing well for a legitimate contender.

Not saying I disagree that NYK is a better spot for him, but am I missing something?

KAT had 5 years in Minn where he averaged greater than 24 PPG, and 6 years of double-digit rebounds and a double-double. The rebounds took a dip the last 2 years in MINN with the addition of Gobert and due to their style of play, but KAT was putting up all star numbers and was a 4-time all star and 2-time All-NBA player in MINN.

And MINN has been a contender for a few years now while they had Towns as well.

I'm thrilled for him but this season just seems par-for-the-course for him given the success he has had throughout his career.

Career high in three point percentage. Does that count as something that he's doing better?

Career high in rebounds. Does that count as something that he's doing better? In fact, his rebound rate is blowing his career rebounding out of the water by 2.7 per game.

Towns has always been a great player. No one is arguing against that; but this is Towns at his most efficient, best rebounding, and best perimeter shooting form.

I mean I never said there wasn't a single thing he isn't doing better in NY - but statistically (if you asked the analytics folks) his best 3pt shooting year was in MINN in 2019-2020 when he averaged nearly 3 and a half made 3s per game on his way to nearly 27PPG average. Slightly lower percentage but much higher volume, which analytical folks will tell you is preferred).

His rebounding rate is indeed improved though which is good.

KAT is great in NYK, huge fan of KAT and thrilled for his success - but he was equally successful (if not even more so) in MINN as well on some great teams also, that was my point. KAT has always been doing this, now there are just more eyes on him in the Big Apple.

Mikal Bridges is also a perfect complimentary piece to Brunson and Towns. He was spectacular yesterday.

Gobert might be the most overrated player in NBA history. Idk why Minnesota chose a guy that's 7'2 and struggles to make a layup over a guy like KAT who is an offensive juggernaut. The defense difference isn't that major either. Players still attack Gobert when guarded 1v1. Hes good at getting weak side blocks but that's about it.

You must be a pleasure when deciding where to eat for dinner.

Your family: "Dad, we'd like McDonald's."

You: "I mean, McDonald's offers quantitatively less calories than Burger King, and for less value. Burger King is a higher volume of calorie for a slightly cheaper value."

Your family: "But the nuggets are better."

You: "I never said they weren't better, I just pointed out their value is lesser from a calorie intake standpoint, which the analytical folks will undoubtedly argue is better. Essentially, I'm okay with McDonald's, but it needs to be noted that Burger King's value rate is statistically more productive if one is trying to save money, while also enjoying a solid fast food product."

Your family: "McDonald's has a clown, and we like that, too. He's an American icon. They also have the Hamburgular."

You: "Technically, the Burger King mascot has been around longer since 1955. Ronald McDonald has only been around since 1963. That gives the Burger King an additional eight years of American iconography. I'm not saying I disagree, per se, that Ronald is not an American icon, just that if we're being comparatively honest, the analytics clearly tell us that Burger King is the greater American icon from a technical standpoint."

Your family: "Dad, we don't care. Now we want Chipotle."

Towns has always been considered an offensive star, but defensive liability. I have not watched any of their games. But, if there is a guy who can stack better defensive guys/schemes around him, it is Thib’s. He is also coming home. So, I’d say he has about 3-4 more good years, especially since his game is not really predicated on being an athlete.

He’s a beast, 45% from 3! He looks like an MVP some night I’ve watched. Easy All Star and probably 2nd team All NBA right now.

NY has an elite penetrator and finisher in Brunson. The threat of his outside shooting takes the opposing C out of that equation. Even if KATs numbers are close to his best years, it doesn’t take a lot to see that this elevates the offense a lot more than have Gobert fumble around in the paint.

Randle was just hurt, he’s the one who started NY becoming good again.

It’s true. He carried the load for a couple years. But in a lot of ways he never evolved past what he was here besides hitting some threes in my book. He loved putting his head down and dribbling into double teams which I’m sure worked well for him in high school but less and less against grown ass men. Seems like a great dude and I hope Minnesota is a good fit for him.

It works ok In the league dude is a guaranteed 22/10 kinda guy. He’s one of the strongest finishers I’ve ever seen still. On the block he’s so tough.

He was a damn good defender here.
