Which is worse ?

Good question.

The rhetoric is more brutal after a loss, but the handwringing over portal season is something else.

Some folks expect transfers ranked 1-14 to commit to us within an hour.

I remember last year, every guy we signed was meh and every player that signed elsewhere was the missing piece for a national title.

We are in a much better spot than last year. I don’t understand the angst.

You are so right. We just need to show some patience and faith in the staff, both of which don't exist for many on the board. Pope will get a good roster when all the smoke clears and I feel we'll have a better team next year. Just gotta wait for it to happen. And, yes, it's much more brutal here after a loss.

After a bad loss by far. We’ll be fine. Let it play out. Just a thought, where do you think we will be projected preseason? I know polls don’t matter preseason but I say 15.

Both are miserable.

People who declared that they would have patience with Mark Pope this season because he was doing a complete rebuild completely lost their minds anything the team lost or even if they struggled. It became unbearable to be on this board as much as I used to be.

Now it's recruiting time and people seem to think that every player in the country should be an easy get for Mark Pope. That just isn't the way it works. People who have absolutely NO clue about how the portal, recruiting, NIL, etc. work get on here and act like they are experts and that Pope is failing.

It's just unbelievable and hard to just let things pass at times. I trust in our coach. He's proven that he is the right man for this job. Give him some time before crucifying him.

KENTUCKY fans (not all but man the loudest) are miserable. UK could get the best starting 5 out of the portal, the best backups, and not get one guy and all you would hear about is the one guy they did not get. UK could win 5 NC in a row and lose the first game of the year the next year and the very first post would be, Well it was a good run.

This place after a bad loss or this portal season thing we are in now ? Every dude that can dribble and enters the portal gets a shout . 😩 I’m skipping about everything unless it’s a signing
I am with you I don't click on the portal post, unless that player has actually signed. Pope has one coach who tracked players on other teams all season long, they contact the ones they like ASAP, and who knows what will happen, the one kid choose UCLA because it was close to home, one decided to stay put in his original school, I am sure some are just doing it to see what kind of money they can get.

The best players will test the NBA waters, then get feedback and pull out. What's the hurry to get players now? We didn't get Robinson until around Memorial Day.

Last season Pope had the money, and he was closing dudes left and right! Then shortly after, he closed on 3 freshmen!

Fast forward, and he’s been outbid for pretty much every freshman in the 2025 Top 5, almost all of his portal targets (so far), and now has one backup wing closed for this upcoming season, with ZERO starters replaced…

You tell me the common denominator!

Hey Dan, how is everything with you? I just started back on Cats Pause. I'm 86, still enjoying life. Now that
Dan, hope everything is good with you. This is Willievic. I haven't been on Cats Pause much lately. Now that Cal is gone, hopefully most of the "Cal Suckers, will quit praising him. I still have my seats at the football games, so hopefully I will see you there. My two grandchildren who were in medical school are doctors now, so I don't spend as much time in Lexington as I use to. Take care. Vic

It’s April 2, Kerr faked his injury guy.

Last year:
Chandler committed April 18
Williams committed April 21
Butler committed April 26
Oweh committed April 27
Carr committed April 29
Garrison committed April 30
Brea committed May 1
Kriisa committed May 1
Noah committed May 8
Almonor committed May 17
Robinson committed May 31

It’s still really early in the process. Calm down some, and if you’re using last year as a comparison, see above.

I retired early , changed my income level for a couple more years and I really dont think Stoops is the man with a plan . 2-12 last 14 SEC home games so I'm checking out til we are competitive at a minimum . Didnt like seeing the team and individuals quit last year .

This is an awesome post.

I am trying to follow the portal crap but it's exhausting with every random name on here each day. I am just gonna trust the staff to get a good team together and compete for the sec and final four next year.

It's like a second season, but compressed into a month. If we get a guy it's a W. If somebody get's him it's an L. I'm thinking it's better to not to follow it too closely.

Yep, and players ranked 1-15 in the portal last year had a grand total of 2 1st team all conference selections. 11 of them didn't even make any all-conference teams.

@MegaBlue05 - that list is a great reminder of timeline, and it also makes sense why @TFCats11 perception was also fairly accurate.

Pope did seem to be getting commitments one after another, but that was in part due to the fact that he was starting so late in the portal window. Hopefully, he snags a great commitment or two by this time next week. Then, he can really hone in on the last couple.

They are both a tough group. The after the loss folks I can understand cause it's in the moment emotions. The portal pottiers are freaking out, and they don't even have an accurate clue of what's going on. They're showing a lack of pretty basic big picture stuff. This portal stuff should actually be pretty fun, but they are a giant wet blanket. This portal stuff is some real big buisness cloak and dagger stuff. We only hear about some things because the staff wants that info out there. This crap should be fun. But, no. The entire world is coming to an end cause we didn't get a mid major 12&8 dude. Ugh.

If May is approaching and we still have only one guy committed, by all means please freak out. I will join that party.

But it’s entirely too early to freak out now.

We filled most of the roster in a week in late April/early May. There was a tweet earlier that mentioned the teams still playing have no portal commitments and the teams bounced in the S16 or Elite 8 only have 1-2 portal guys.

Bad teams from this past season have more portal guys signed, likely because the portal opened the last day of the regular season. Those staffs got a two week jump because they didn’t have to practice, travel, scout or game plan after they were eliminated from their conference tournaments.

My whole point is freaking out in the first week of April is silly. If we get past tax day and still have no additional commitments, freak the hell out. Until then, it’s useless worrying.

Portal is the easy answer for me. After a loss can suck, but at least it’s some bball talk and it dies down after a couple days.

Portal stuff never really dies down and all the sudden everyone is an expert on some kid who played on a below .500 team saying he’ll lead us to a FF.

You are being too reasonable and sensible! Stop it! 🤣

A lot of the people panicking in this thread are the same people screaming "NO" and "he ain't worth it" in threads about the players rumored to be on our radar.
They are not to be trusted.
