Which Final Four team has best all-time starting five?

G- Kyrie Irving
G- Johnny Dawkins / JJ Redick
F - Grant Hill / Jason Tatum
F - Zion Williamson / Christian Laettner / Flagg
C - Mike Gminski / Carlos Boozer
I hate the MFers, but tough to narrow down the #1 player at most of the positions, and some really good players left off. (Jay Williams / Bobby Hurley / Elton Brand / Brandon Ingram)
Are we going on what they did in college, or the pros? Because Kyrie barely had enough game time to be considered a cameo appearance while he was at Duke.

Yep, Jay Williams should be the starting point (with Hurley as his his backup) if college instead of NBA is the criteria.

Williams won just about everything a guy could win (National Player of the Year, National Championship, final four MVP, etc.), yet is getting oddly little attention in this thread.

Hurley was a 2 time champ and probably the greatest play making PG in college basketball.

It's more of an indictment of just how dominant Williams was. Hurley was great but Williams was one of the best college players during that 01 and 02 stretch. He could've been special in the pros before the accident.

This isn't even close. There's no one that would be better than Duke's starting five. In fact, I don't think there's anyone who would even beat the 6-10 ranked Duke players based on the college versions of these players.

Jay Williams
Redick
Grant Hill
Battier
Laettner

Hurley
Dawkins
Zion or Heyman
Ferry
Brand

I'm probably forgetting a ton.

You literally put Zion ahead of Laettner. CL could be argued credibly as the greatest college basketball player ever.
No I Did not. It is either or. I even stated "hard to pick at most positions. But if you where really nitpicking, you didn't mention Flagg. But you brought it up so,,, Laettner was very good (best ever in college ? Not even close), but would you really take him over Zion ? Zion was a wrecking ball in college, he was unstoppable.

The thread literally states which final four team (as in Florida auburn Duke and houston) have the best all time starting 5 throughout their history.

UK isn't an option in this year's final four.

The thread title is not that specific. Even after editing, it could be asking which FF team of any that ever existed had the best starting 5. Or it could be asking which of the current teams have the current best starting 5 of all time. There's a lot of different ways to take the question...

Flagg, Kyrie Irvin, and Grant Hill would be the most obvious left out. Boozer and Tatum also.

Are you a Duke fan? I’m not attacking I’ve just noticed you really love talking some Duke. I’m not here to judge you, just curious
No, far from it. Did you not read the part "I hate the MFers" ? That is a pretty clear sign I am not a fan of them. But I answered the topic HONESTLY. Just because you give your opinion, doesn't mean you have to like it. Hell we got posters listing UK teams. It amazes me how some people can't comprehend what is being debated. Not you, but those who listed teams NOT in the Final 4. There are 4 teams left, and Duke by a wide margin has the greatest talent from over the years of teams left in the Final 4. UK, UCLA, and UNC would definitely be formidable, but they are not in the Final 4, so,,,,,,

Sounds good to me. I hate it but they are good this year 👍

I am going by what he did talent wise. He was a starter, played 11 games, if not counting him, can you really count any one and done ? His 11 games showed me he was elite. It didn't specify winning titles, awards, etc. He said starters.

11 games / 27 minutes per game :
17.5 ppg
3.4 rpg
4.3 apg
1.5 steals per game

Those stats he put up and just watching him play, showed me all I needed to see whether he played 11 or 111 games. Kyrie Irvin was showtime. But I do get your point. If he had only played 2/3 games or what not, I could see a argument even more, but he played enough for me to see all I needed to. NBA thought so also, #1 overall pick.

I agree with you 100%. I've noticed he is quick to defend Duke and sure knows a lot about them.
Obviously you can't read very well. Or maybe comprehend, or both. "I hate the MFers" part of my post very CLEARLY showed I do not like Duke. I am 56 years old, been a diehard UK fan. You do know answering a question in your HONEST opinion doesn't mean you have to like it. I have been posting here for 20 FN years, being called a Duke fan is as insulting as it gets.

The difference between you and me is very simple, I can answer something honestly and not cloud the answer based on hate or bias. Try it sometimes, well if you want to be honest with yourself. Using hate or bias just makes your answer bullshit and not not being true to yourself. I can answer honestly, and feel secure about my fanhood, I do not have to put up this fake front by having to answer based on hate or bias. I can hate Duke and give them props of having great players over the years, BOTH can be true.

TEAMS IN THE FINAL 4. That is the criteria for the thread topic. Hell you could make a case for Villanova, Georgetown, Syracuse, UNC, UK, and about 30 other schools, IF it was ANY college team.
