Whew! Chandler will play on Sunday.

To everyone saying it's a stupid thread, you are ignorant of how fervent some people's beliefs can be. Chandler basically turned his back on his basketball career for two years to go on a mission trip. Who knows how he might feel about something like this.

I do know that in soccer they had started to make rules changes for Muslims who observe Ramadan. Ironically enough, BYU basketball had to make allowances for Aly Khalifa. He would skip water breaks during timeouts.

There's been a hundred BYU alums do it in the NBA and NFL. I know Pope played at least two himself at UK. I didn't think it was an issue .

If this was a thing, we would have known by now. Keep up the conspiracy posts, they’re terrific
No conspiracy here. Just was shocked when they asked him in an interview. Thought I was gonna be sick before he answered “Yes, I’m going to play Sunday”

The committee screwed up in 2003 and put BYU in a Friday/Sunday region. If they would have reached the Sweet 16 they would have subbed them out with Wisconsin and UK would have played them. They lost in the first round so it didn't matter. The 2003 also featured the genius decision to put #1 seed Kentucky in the Minneapolis regional with Wisconsin and Marquette to "sell more tickets". We all know how thay turned out.

It's actually pretty legit of a question. BYU is s church school. They have made decisions in the past to not play on Sunday, including one year where there was a chance their Bowl game was being played Sunday.
But it's a church decision...individuals choose their own course.
Yes, a good distinction. One is a public facing entity for the religion. Maybe the most famous one. One is a person.

Some people wondered. Media should ask the question so more know the answer.

That is correct, but it is notable that at least one passed on an NFL career because of Sunday games. Eli Herring was a projected first round draft pick. I believe he became a teacher, but I could be mistaken.

The Jews observe the Sabbath, not the Mormons. SMH

Uh....the Sabbath is observed by nearly all major faiths.

Jews observe the Sabbath on sunset Friday until nightfall on Saturday.
Christians (including the Mormons as they are Christians) have traditionally observed the Sabbath on Sunday.
The exception are the Seventh Day Adventists who observe the Sabbath on Saturday.
Muslims observe their Sabbath on Fridays, and its a bit different in how Jews and Christians observe it.
