Totally forgot that might have been an issue with the church rules and all. Since he’s at UK, it’s a “personal” decision.
Actually I think BYU never gets placed in the Friday/Sunday slots because they have a rule against Sunday games. I didn’t think about it with Chandler but it was a reasonable questionDo better, OP.
Yes. NCAA cannot schedule them to play on a Sunday. Is BYU exempted from Fri/Sun pairings for religious reasons ?? Just curious …
Last year BYU was dropped from a 5 seed to a 6 seed to accommodate the ruleActually I think BYU never gets placed in the Friday/Sunday slots because they have a rule against Sunday games. I didn’t think about it with Chandler but it was a reasonable question
Well you would hope, but no telling how religious some people might beAs if pope and Chandler were gonna not coach and play lol get real.
Hey, I just saw an interview and my heart sunk when they posed the question to himFFS, What a dumb thread
Hard to believe that’s still a thing in 2025. But it is and affected their seed last year. Kinda crazy.Yes. NCAA cannot schedule them to play on a Sunday.
Well you would hope, but no telling how religious some people might be
Chin Coleman was ready to stand in as a substitute if need-beAs if pope and Chandler were gonna not coach and play lol get real.
Well he did take two years out of his basketball career to go on a MissionTheir religion is green like everyone else.
Sandy Koufax comes to mind …Well you would hope, but no telling how religious some people might be
Steve Young, a direct descendant of Brigham Young, comes to mind. There's been a hundred BYU alums do it in the NBA and NFL. I know Pope played at least two himself at UK. I didn't think it was an issue .

Was Pope's status coaching the game in question, too? LolTotally forgot that might have been an issue with the church rules and all. Since he’s at UK, it’s a “personal” decision.
Nah, they were only interviewing ChandlerWas Pope's status coaching the game in question, too? Lol
No conspiracy here. Just was shocked when they asked him in an interview. Thought I was gonna be sick before he answered “Yes, I’m going to play Sunday”If this was a thing, we would have known by now. Keep up the conspiracy posts, they’re terrific
Yes, a good distinction. One is a public facing entity for the religion. Maybe the most famous one. One is a person. It's actually pretty legit of a question. BYU is s church school. They have made decisions in the past to not play on Sunday, including one year where there was a chance their Bowl game was being played Sunday.
But it's a church decision...individuals choose their own course.
Yes last year they dropped byu to a 7 seed to get them a sat game. Of course they didn’t need itIs BYU exempted from Fri/Sun pairings for religious reasons ?? Just curious …
Sabbath is Friday evening to sat evening not Sunday anyway.“And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:”

That is correct, but it is notable that at least one passed on an NFL career because of Sunday games. Eli Herring was a projected first round draft pick. I believe he became a teacher, but I could be mistaken. There's been a hundred BYU alums do it in the NBA and NFL. I know Pope played at least two himself at UK. I didn't think it was an issue .
Sssshhhhhh 🤫 It was a SECRET mission.Well he did take two years out of his basketball career to go on a Mission

I mean he didn't play ball for TWO YEARS to honor his faith, so, it's not a dumb question at all. And if he chose not to play, people should respect his decision. That being said, he's gonna play.Well you would hope, but no telling how religious some people might be
