Where do you think we are thus far in the season?

The way I figure it, we are about 25% of the way through the games that really count, i.e., Tex Tech, UL and the SEC. I am sure I am leaving 1 or 2 out, but you know what I am saying. Anyway, where do you think we sit right now?

Offense has been better than I expected, for the most part. I don't think we have a deep bench though, our starting 9 is about it. Defense is about the same as last year, not a great defense, but decent. I really like Mingione's coaching, think Kentucky looks much much better coached than in the past.

Honestly, a little disappointed in the pitching so far, this past series is the first time all year we have gotten three decent efforts from our weekend guys. And still looking for a back end stopper, to be sure, we haven't played that many close games . . . but we will for certain throughout the SEC.

Right now, I would say we are not really a CWS level team, maybe not a regional winner yet, but can see the potential for a really good season if the pitching just comes around just a bit like I think it can. Getting Thompson back in the lineup and productive and moving Haake back to the pen would help a bit IMO.

Agree for the most part with your assessment, hitting is very good, defense id decent, pitching is a little disapointing, but when Thompson gets back, we will be deeper. The bench is hard to tell honestly, because they were contributing earlier in the season.

I still think we are at least a top 25 team and with an RPI at 21 (and rising) we could reasonably host a regional by year end of we continue this type of trend.

Hitting has been great, but in many ways I think we rely too much on power. We don't seem to have a whole lot of instances where we string together hits. It's kind of feast or famine and that's a big part of the reason we've only had two save opportunities. We have got to cut down on strikeouts though, especially at key times.

If we can get the starters locked back in I think the pitching will be fine. We know they can do it. Just has to start executing. I think Ramsey has been very solid out of the bullpen and will be a good mid reliever for us. I'd like to see Coleman be a setup guy and the Mach close out games. Then we get Thompson back at some point and I imagine that he will pitch out of the pen soon. So, on paper we have the arms. We could use some more lefties, but we're just SOL on that this year.

Well ahead of expectations offensively. Well behind of expectations with starting pitching. Some defensive and base-running concerns.

They are a long way from contending for the CWS, but there’s a lot of games left to be played, and the raw talent is there.

We are missing Thomopson big time!

The good news is that the pundits thought we'd be really good, so we're holding steady in the top 10 (even though I don't think we're a top 10 team at the moment). We have two good series wins and a handful of very good wins in Houston. The name of the game is winning weekend series, and even though the Arkansas weekend was a total debacle, it's only one series (getting swept hurts though).

It's a tough schedule with Florida, Vandy, and others coming up, but we do avoid Ole Miss and A&M and LSU from the west (getting Bama appears to be a positive).

Offense has been a pleasant surprise to me, pitching has been a big disappointment. I'm more disappointed in the weekend starters than the bullpen (b/c my expectations were higher for them), but I think in the long run our starting pitching will be fine (I'm not so sure our bullpen will be fine).

Still could be a CWS season, but I think we will need to host a regional and a super in order to get there. Still in line for that, but have to keep winning weekend series to do that!

Still think part of the pitching problem has been the crappy weather and cold temperatures. Conditions not conducive for great pitching!

I hope that plays a bit of a factor. We will see this weekend if there is any effect.

The most important question is, are we better that uavel?
