When, if ever. Will UK demand better results of it's baseball & women's basketball programs?

Our women's basketball program has never been to a Final Four. And has lost to Louisville 7 games in a row, absolutely inexcusable.

Our baseball program is the only team in the SEC that has never been to the college World Series. The other 13 soon to be 15 teams in the conference has all been there at least 5 times each

Our baseball & women's basketball coaches are like the Pope or a supreme court justice, once they get the job, they've got it for life regardless of the results.

"But we finished top 10 in the Director's Cup!"

WBB had a pretty good program with Mitchell. Unfortunately, he had a health scare and stepped down. Elzy has been a bad hire. They need to move on from her immediately.

Mangione had taken the baseball program to the Super Regionals twice in his 6 years…the only 2 times in UK history. He needs to be more consistent though, as his other 4 seasons were not good.

WBB needs to make a good hire. Hopefully Mangione can take that next step

Elzy got the job because of bad timing on Mitchell’s exit and that surprising SEC run but I think she’s done after this year.

Baseball has only recently been taken serious.

At the end of the day, they are non revenue sports so outside of just pride of the program, there is little incentive to making them a contender in the SEC

I know a guy who has very good ties to UK Lady Cats team and women's college basketball in general and he says they have interest in the job from some good candidates.

I think both are limited due to a lot of the same reasons football is. The main reason is the SEC is tough.

The current basketball coach is a bad hire and should have already been fired. The baseball coach saved his job (for now) with last year's mini run.

And yes, I know the above comment can apply to calipari too lol.

Firing a coach isn't a golden bullet. Look at Auburn and Nebraska football who fire a coach every time they have a mediocre season. They've just prolonged mediocrity.

Elzy is definitely on the hot seat though.
Baseball is debatable. You risk unwinding the moderate amount of progress the program has made.
Can't take conversations about firing Stoops seriously. It's not going to happen and shouldn't.

Calipari is more likely to retire than be fired, but the only way it's seriously considered that Calipari is replaced is if you have a replacement who has a similar background or similar potential and you 100% know you can get them. Otherwise, the rebuilding process puts the program at serious risk.

UK basketball sells itself. The first year you get good guys n the transfer portal and the right coach can win.

We may lose one class of one and done types but that's gonna happen no matter when calipari leaves.

The best time to make the move is when you have some pieces that would be coming back anyways. Like a Reed, like a Thiero perhaps, Z, etc. Then go get some big time transfers and some HS guys to go with them.

It's not like we are a threat to win a national title or even make a final four with cal at this point.

The state produces great HS players but they leave the state mostly for Vandy.

Zero chance that situation plays out.
The only way Barnhart and Cal part ways is if one retires.

when will they expect better results from the football team?... Stoops got the job in 2012 and has never even won the East...but he gets a pass for whatever reason

Except we are a threat to win a national championship and it can be much worse. Kentucky didn’t go to a Final 4 for 12 years prior to Calipari. Let’s not act like being successful is a given.

This is where it starts unbelievable he is still here after the Gillespie and joker hires and since he gave cal a lifetime we have been irrelevant in the sport we use to dominate but mitch keeps forking out the cash while UK goes down the drain long overdue for a change and overhaul

As if you care about UK's money...

UK basketball sells itself.
It doesn't sell itself nearly as much as this board thinks it does. In the '90s you'd be absolutely correct. In 2023 you aren't. Kids couldn't care less about tradition and history of the programs they commit to these days. It's 100% about the coach and NIL.

Wall, Bledsoe, and Cousins didn't come here to play at UK. They came here to play for Cal. Same with 95% of the recruits we've landed under him. Replacing Cal with the wrong coach can easily put you on the path to being Indiana.

No we aren't. Haven't won one in almost 12 years and hitting 9 years without a final four in 2024.

If cal stays another 3 years we will be talking about his personal 12 year final four drought.

You notice they don't mention the sec we use to dominate that too how long has that drought been

If the requirement is winning the East it would not make any sense taking this job in the condition Stoops walked into. UK has not had a piece of any FB title in 46 years and ended up on probation for that one. Your standard is stupid.

Wow, if you don't win the East you have zero shot at the playoffs...that changes next year but until then then that is way it is.... 11 years is plenty of time to turn around a program and and be a CONTENDER....has NOT happened yet... you are either Stoops making an excuse for your mediocrity or an idiot

Replacing Cal with the right coach could easily do away with this "player first" "NBA Draft Night is the Greatest Night" nonsense.

Just more stupidity from you. That is simply not a reasonable demand. I don't think we should fire our fb coach for not making the playoff or winning the east and you think that means I must be Mark Stoops? UK has achieved nothing similar to that since 1950. You seem to think demanding, bitching, moaning, and firing the most successful coach we have had in 70 years is the answer. Clearly you are the idiot here.

Well I’d say when people actually pay to watch or buy the women gear, it will move up a couple notches. Same with baseball and it’s pathetic, much like Football but at least that’s improved.

We are a threat and Cal has still come close to a final 4 in that time alone. 2017 is a Rooferee from a probable title run, 2018/2019 we’re one stop from a final 4, and 2020 had a good shot had they gotten a chance. Really this drought feels worse because of 9-16, Oscars team injury flame out, and last years underachievement.

go to another meaningless bowl game and take home another participation trophy... because that is all it amounts to
