What's your take on the Diallo situation.

Evidently, most people don't understand this. The NCAA is owned and managed by its member schools, which include Kentucky and Kansas. Whatever the NCAA is, it is only what the member schools make of it. When someone says the NCAA is a joke, they are saying Kentucky is a joke. Because the NCAA is entirely run by its member schools, including Kentucky.

In theory, you are correct but I think what happens is that the organization that was created too often develops a life of its own that is separate from the individual parts that created it. That new life often becomes corrupt and unmanageable.

My local organization left the national organization 2 years ago because the national organization had evolved into something that we found completely unacceptable. We spent years and years working on reform but were blocked repeatedly by a few persons with a lot of power.

IF the NCAA has any real integrity, it will hammer UNC. If they don't, I think the organization is a complete joke.

They're going back to try to help him. Theu are not accepting Our Saviour New American classes so they're looking for something that will help him. BTW, he doesn't have the core classes to be eligible, there's your answer and I'm not sure how that makes the NCAA a joke.

How do you address the two independent reports that has looked at his records in Mali and OSNA and is verifying that he has met the core class requirements that every other NCAA basketball freshmen have met?

If Diallo doesn't play, Self will have a real chance to show the world what he is made of as a coach. Cal took UK to a Final Four and was one three pointer away from winning the whole thing without Kanter (no way UK loses to Butler in the national final if given the chance).

Let's see if Self is on the same level as Cal when the chips are down.

But understand this. When someone says the NCAA is a joke, they are saying Kentucky is a joke. Because the NCAA is entirely run by its member schools, including Kentucky.

Or the other option - which is that the individual people who make up the NCAA's infractions committee have a history of crappy solidarity when it comes to setting any type of real standard.

I can be a shareholder in a company and not have a direct connection to the management who make a horrible decision within the company. That is how I would connect your analogy, especially in light of the criticisms Kentucky has placed upon the NCAA governing committees.

Again, I am not tutoring today. You are a smart man. I bet that you actually know the answer to that question.

Of course we all know the answer to that question, but my underlying point is that UNC had a vested interest in establishing the success of their agenda. They hired independent consultants to review their situation, but the process proved subjectively skewed to favor UNC.

What I am suggesting is that Kanas may be operating within a similar vein. It's certainly not unheard of, given the enormity of Diallo's potential impact on the Kansas program this season. It's a point at least worthy of discussion; although, in fairness to your program, it may be an altogether false assumption when it's all said and done.

Who really can tell at this point?

The NCAA is pathetic in how long it take to make decisions, and Bell Self is not popular in the Indy offices for whatever reason. He's got a legitimate beef. Make up your damn minds already one way or the other.

The ncaa is ridiculous in how they are dragging this on.Its been almost 6 months. And still no answer from them.

I have not read a single post after this but I'd guarantee that you haven't posted again in the thread you started.
You used to do this before you got blacklisted before you was outed.

My take is that there is probably some legitimate concerns with the guys "high school." And there are legitimate concerns about his core class work being completed. Of course we all now there are legitimate concerns with the NCAA following its own agenda and never being consistent. However, as someone pointed out already, there are more serious and legitimate concerns regarding Bill Selfs coaching ability; and sitting this one out may just prove to be Diallos most rewarding option. Going into the draft, he will have that mystery and excitement from being held hostage by the brass, and he doesn't have to worry about Self killing his chances and keeping him in that crap hole Lawrence for another two years .

Diallo wants to play college ball this year, and he wants to play for Kansas. Regardless of what it means for his draft status, let's not pretend this wouldn't be an awful thing for the kid if he didn't get to play.

I imagine Kanter still immensely regrets he never got to suit up for UK. He still loves UK and BBN. I can't imagine what it was like for him to sit on the sidelines and watch us lose to UConn.

If he doesn't have the core classes he shouldn't be allowed to play. It's a stupid rule and I wish they would change the rule for foreign players. However, they can not make an exception for this kid and not another. It has to be a uniform rule. It's a complicated issue that doesn't have a simple answer. I'm sorry for the kid but the rule is the rule. And either way, he'll be a millionaire next year.

Hearing Self gripe about the NCAA is about as rich as whoever designed his toupee.

He would be an assistant coach in the NBA if the NCAA did it's job properly in the past.

They are a joke because they are punishing the kid for the decisions of adults around him. No matter how you look at these situations, it is an adult who puts a kid in a bad spot, almost always. So why punish the kid? If he is smart enough to do well on entrance exams who really cares if he's had enough "core" classes. The point of the core classes was to prepare him to be able to perform well in college. So long as you get there without cheating on entrance exams, who cares how you get there. Maybe you go to a terrible school and learn on your own outside the school. The NCAA should worry more about the product and less about the process.

Well, Cal watched Diallo play while also seeing Bam get a double-double while being triple-teamed, and he seems to be a good 2017 recruit. We'll see if Cal offers him and see where it goes from there. That's my take on the Diallo situation.

So the NCAA who publishes what core classes kids have to take to be eligible should stop doing that and have no requirements? They should also ignore shady HS's who just push athletes through like OSNA and Prime Prep?

Agree with you. The NCAA is trying to prevent diploma mills on the HS level. The problem for the NCAA is that they don't care if UNC then runs their own diploma mill

You missed my point. Who put Diallo in a shady high school, who decided which classes to take, how long was he in school here, who screwed up and didn't get him into enough core classes? Since when is a 12-18 year old supposed to be astute enough to be responsible for this themselves? I will ask again, did he perform well enough on the ACT or SAT to be admitted to college and satisfy that requirement? If so, why worry about the classes he took?

Look at all the UK fans backing (what could be) a corrupt situation. You don't have all the facts, so why in the hell are some of you rushing in to be the first in line to call them out over a Kansas recruit?

I hope he DOESNT play, and I feel zero remorse for it. I'm a UK fan. The worse Kansas is, the better. IDGAF about his one year at Kansas.

Strict liability. If something's off with academics, then he's done. Maybe it's an unfortunate situation, but (big news flash) life isn't always fair. Maybe some of these parents and handlers want to do a better job raising their kids? Maybe that's the angle to take here.

Again, that really isn't addressing my concern. Foreign kids are at a particular disadvantage, especially when they don't even speak English which Diallo didn't when he arrived here in February 2012. I'm sure ths has been posted but it gives me even more concerns about the NCAA's handling of Diallo. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article45879010.html

No one said life is fair, but in this instance it shouldn't be adversarial, which is how the NCAA is acting.

When Duke starts signing foreign kids, look for the problem to be solved. Kansas cheats like crazy and this might just be the one that bites them. They should have had 08 stripped. But it's Kansas we're talking about, the single most corrupt school in the NCAA's.

I hope he never plays.

Every decision regarding athlete eligibility is adversarial by its very nature.

They would've loved it if Skal was ineligible. Screw them.
