What's with all the doom and gloom?

I really don't understand the majority of the posts on here tonight. Yes, we lost and yes I could even give you that we played like shit but it's one game. I think almost anyone would take a 7-1 record before the season started. Why are we this upset over our first loss? Can't we just say it was a bad game and be happy where we are at? Why do we have to attack our new head coach and the players when they have far exceeded expectations so far in the season.

I don't really see doom and gloom I just see people talking about what could have gone better and where we need to improve and etc. I think we just hate our team losing.

Statically the 2 teams played nearly identical.

We tied them on the glass (surprised me)

We shot slightly better from the field but they made 8 3s to our 7. And made 3 additional freethrows.

We had 5 more turnovers…..those possessions where the difference (despite the physicality allowed and them being called for 5 less fouls {20-15} and Butler in foul trouble all game causing limited minutes)

All we did was trade a Duke win for a Clemson loss IMO. I think 7 and 1 was a record everyone would be happy with.

I still have so much apathy as a sports fan overall this loss means nothing to me. All that matters is winning the things that matter like sec regular season, sec tourney, make a final four and win a natty title. All 4 of those are n play.

Speaking for myself, it’s because the football season just ended in an absolute depressing disaster and I could tell myself ‘who cares it’s basketball season’ and then we go and get beaten like that, being the ONLY SEC TEAM to lose tonight. And on top of that it was obvious Clemson is a 10 loss team, they didn’t even shoot it well, and we ran iso ball.

Honestly if you didn’t look at the sideline, we played exactly like a calipari team tonight. ISO ball, can’t make any 3’s, more talent than the other team but can’t execute.

I don’t think we suck or anything but we are clearly not a top 5 team, or even top 10. I think we’re a top 25 team with potential to get better but we have to change some stuff and hopefully pope is less stubborn than cal about trying things differently. For example, we simply cannot run the offense with Amari Williams as point guard anymore, its foolish and we tried it and it doesn’t work against a decent team.

Obviously many are being way overdramatic but I get it. We wanted to be excited and happy about UK basketball again and instead we take another kind of embarrassing loss. To me this was a beat down that wasn’t really as close as the score indicates. I think we can be a really good team but I think we will clearly take some losses on the way, probably 7-10.

Losing very winnable games is frustrating as hell. No doom/gloom.

11/18 FT
Horrendous bench play
Brea a no show
Clemson banking in a key 3
Fouls not called both ways
Oweh missing three wide open 3s down 4 late

Staring at 0-2 this week is what bothers most, I suspect.

A. We’re a passionate fanbase that hates losing and never expects to.

B. We could have and should have won that game.

C. Throw in some Cal fans who didn’t post at all during the 7-0 stretch but are now “rage” posting but are really giddy.

UK let a low athletic guy get 20 rebounds on them. When they play the SEC schedule this is going to be a problem.

4-5 position is a major issue.

No some people are quick to put blame on anyone and I bet most have never played or coached the game. Why they can’t take a loss and move on is just immaturity. Sure you can discuss but some want to find fault in the player or coach.

If we shoot 29.6% from three point range and 66% from the free-throw line then the game is tied and we go into overtime. That is just one more three pointer and one more free throw. We lost the game simply because we could not shoot tonight. We play Clemson again on a neutral floor we win by 20.

If they gave us a road game against any of those other ACC teams that played tonight, we win the game. Clemson is a really good team and will be a top 7 seed in the NCAAT, so losing at their place isnt horrible.

I don’t see doom and gloom, but there are areas to be concerned with as the season progresses. Gonna need much better play from the frontcourt. Gonna need a third player to give consistent production outside of Oweh and Butler. Have to find a capable backup to Butler…

If moral victories counted we would lead the nation😆

Pope called it before the game. The team that set tempo would win game. Also we had 4 empty trips in last 3 minutes something that hasn't happened all year. We also had 2 four minute scoring droughts another thing that hasn't happened this year. Finally Clemson played harder than we did, especially on the defensive end. I am not terribly upset but is obvious to me at least that these guys are still figuring out thier roles and how to play together. Unlike many I thought Williams played a decent game tonight, especially in second half. Brea and Kirsa were no shows and given the foul trouble Oweh ans Butler had that was a killer. Carr struggled tonight as well.

The tale of the tape was our 14 defensive rebounds vs their 13 offensive rebounds in the first half. That and Butler only playing 19 minutes due to rolling his ankle. Butler was +19, for 19 minutes; Krissa was -23 for 21 minutes. Injuries are part of the game, shit happens. That and that Shief dude going over the back like a half a dozen times with no calls.
