What's up with the Bengals?

Bengals are bad upfront just like UK
No pass rush and can’t run the ball
Burrow gets immediate pressure
He’s not 100% no zip on the ball
No playoffs this year

Burrow wasn't injured though, HUGE difference. It's really pointless to debate which team had more work to do at this point as if it has any impact on this year's team. The 2023 Bengals have their work cut out for them and results from previous seasons have no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of games going forward. Can't stick your head in the sand and rest on past turnarounds as if it is going to guarantee a repeat of history again. At least last season's team was coming off a Super Bowl appearance and Burrow did not have to go into the season injured. If Burrow wasn't hurt, then the narrative would be different. Losing Perine & Hurst doesn't help matters either. I do agree that Taylor has to start getting the starters reps in the preseason otherwise losing early season games is going to keep being a problem.
In a previous thread, I said not resigning Perine was a mistake. I wish they would’ve let Mixon go instead. In this thread, I also said I’m more worried about Burrows calf than I am the record.

If the calf doesn't get better in a hurry, there will be plenty to worry about and the record is going to be negatively impacted because of it. Bengals go as Burrow goes, without him healthy and if this injury lingers on it will impact the season. Like I said, if he was not hurt going into the year, I would be more inclined to believe in past history of a slow start and they will come around eventually as they have the last 2 years. His health is of the utmost concern right now and need him to be healthy for the Bengals to reach the playoffs 3 consecutive seasons.

Not shocked we lost, but shocked how we lost. Zac really needs to reconsider the whole no playing in pre-seaaon. Also hasn't helped that even if he would, he hasn't been able to...Burrow knee, appendicitis, calf... frustrating. Definitely sets the team back.

I think Bengals will be fine but the consistent early season struggles of past couple of years are really frustrating. Especially with KC loss had a golden opportunity to get an early jump on one seed.

This Ravens game next week is critical at this point. All that said, Browns look stout. Burrow also looked like he had never played football in the rain. Was quite bizarre.
From bad to worse. Possible Burrow is out a while. Gonna be an ugly season this year. Taylor play calling is not good. Pollak is not an O line guru. No TE play. Clunker year ahead

I’m a Bengals fan, but I can’t be in denial. Last year’s 0-2 start involved a missed extra point to win a game, and a heartbreaking loss to Dallas in OT. This year’s team got absolutely smoked by a decent Browns team, and trailed the entire game to a Ravens team already decimated by injury. Red flags all over the place with the defense and I’m not sure if Zac Taylor’s unimaginative playcalling will ever fully maximize the potential of the offensive playmakers.
Agree. Taylor is figured by defenses. His play calling and schemes are not innovative

Taylor should take a look at KC. Mahomes is way different than Burrow, but the way they use misdirection and setting up plays a few downs ahead is very well done. SF did a fair job of that as well. Maybe Cincy doesn't have the personnel, but they need to at least give it a shot (if they aren't already and just suck at it right now).

I don't think they have the OL talent they need (edit- for Super Bowl run) regardless of who's coach. I think DKinnard would be a step up for them at OT. Should've approached him after he was waived by KC.

Hope not, will be incredibly disappointing. I am still holding the faith. Glad I didn't buy any tickets yet though 😉

O line is not great, but not terrible. Burrow is off. Play calling is off. Taylor is predictable.

This team got a ton of hype coming into this season. Hope it didn't affect them. Burrow is not even close to himself.

I think he was/is hurt....never fully healthy. Probably 75%...I listen to all his press conferences and he just sounded like he was dodging the question. He actually played pretty good in 2H yesterday. That TD springing backwards and throwing off one leg after he aggravated leg was incredible.

Concerning thing is once he finally started going out of pocket it was aggravated shortly thereafter.

Tough situation. I was talking to my mom yesterday and just said roll the dice and shut him down for a month. At the end of the day if you can get in playoffs you have a shot. This team clearly knows how to win in difficult scenarios.

Sit him....come up with a whale of a game plan vs Rams. Have two very winnable games after that. Worst case should be 2-3 and bring him back after bye week Oct 29. If they can do that it would be a major win.

Don't disagree. Gotta sit him and have him healthy to have any shot. Taylor concerns me more than Burrow.

I like Zac personally. Think he is a great leader and culture builder. It is hard for me to question play calls right now when it seems like to me they are playing with a dumbed down playbook that is keeping Burrow in pocket.

The only thing I didn't love Sunday was when we punted mid 4th qtr down 10 (I think). IIRC it was 4th and 4 or so and just knowing we'd burned a TO due to play clock I thought we would have a hard time doing what was needed with time left- and we did.

There are some personnel issues that concerned me in off-season, particularly the loss of Hearst and Perine. Don't love what we have at TE and RB2 right now.

I really lkke Taylor. Players love him. His not playing them pre season might need a tweak.

TE and RB are definite issues. Murphy might be a stud one day, but a quality TE would do wonders to the offense imo. If they lose this week, the season is likely done for.

Tough rebound from 0-3.

If anyone could do it would be these guys though.

They were 2-3 through 5 games and 5-4 through 9 games last year.

Still time but priority one has to be getting Burrow right/healthy. Even if that means he sits for the next month. Gotta go win a couple of winnable games with defense and running game.

Something seems way more off this year than last year. Things can change quickly. Burrow seemed very off in the postgame presser. I'm hopeful, but this season hangs by a thread.

Just tank the season for Brock Bowers. Lose the battle but live to see another year. Give Burrow, Chase and co. the next 16 weeks off and re-group in ‘24.

Burrow didn’t play all preseason so he was a little rusty and the timing was off. We got absolutely nothing on the ground. While most didn’t think so, I thought losing Perine was a big deal and we could’ve used him today. The O-Line continues to be an issue. They give Burrow little to no time. He got hit today a lot. Also, the defense had so many holes in it today. Watson exploited it so give credit where credit is due. Doesn’t really mean much in the long run. Bengals lost game one last year too. There are a lot of issues that need to be corrected but a long season to do it in.
I think he's playing hurt also

If Cincy wouldve drafted 2 excellent linemen and hang onto their good DBs in the off-season or pick up great 2-3 OL in free agency, they could've rebounded well from Joe's injury. Don't know if they can as it stands.

Brock Bowers on the Bengals (with a GREAT OL) is a scary thought with Burrow and Chase as well.

I think Burrow was hurt in the preseason and still hasn't recovered from the injury.

At this point the season is done. Hate to say that after just 2 games, but it is. These things happen even to good teams. You either keep an injured burrow out there and continue to lose, or sit him and lose. Either way losses are coming.

Better to sit him…

Wasn't pretty but a win is a win. Survive and advance. On to Nashville. 12 catches and 141 yards from Ja'Marr Chase. Mixon got 19 carries, 65 yards and a TD.
