The biggest fight I can remember in UK Basketball History is when Riddick choked Rasheed Wallace from UNCheats in the '95 Tournament. Riddick was responding to a brutal elbow to the jaw thrown by Wallace. I don't think anyone on either team left the bench and the fight got broken up quickly, but the refs somehow mistook Walter McCarty for Riddick and gave Walter the technical. It was an odd start to a disappointing game, but I think it lit the fire that helped propel us to the '96 title. Are there any bigger brawls in UK Basketball History that I can't remember?

Larry Stamper knocked Vanderbilt's Perry Wallace cold with one punch. The biggest fight that I remember though was Minnesota and Ohio State.in I think 1968 or 69, that was a biggie. The baseball player Dave Winfield was involved in that one. Ohio State's 7 foot center Luke Witte had a promising career going, but was never the same after that big fight. The Arkansas coach's father was the coach at Minnesota at that time.

“She should have known better “. In fairness to her, she was bringing me another beer. ( that I never got to drink). Still pisses me off.

The Stamper KO of Vandy's player was before my time. I've read a few stories on here about Stamper. Someone posted a hilarious story about listening to Cawood give the play by play of Stamper getting in a fight. Wish I could have seen Stamper play. He sounds like an old school enforcer.

When Loserville's James Brewer flipped Sean Woods over his shoulder.
Odd I can't remember that fight. Of course, I can remember the '92 Tournament run well. I have a vague memory that Sean Woods got tossed from his senior night game for throwing a punch at a Tennessee player, but I don't think the punch connected.

The Stamper incident involved Percy Howard of Austin Peay not Perry Wallace,in a first round NCAAT game in Nashville.I was there and saw it while listening to Cawood call the game on a transistor radio. I remember Cawood's call almost word for word

"It is getting pretty rough out there,Stamper and Howard are going at it pretty good under the basket"

As the ball came up the court toward the end I was sitting,Stamper stopped at mid court in the jump circle. As Howard ran by Stamper threw I think a right cross.Howard went down on his rear end and slid all the way under a table at courtside

The rest of Cawood's call went like this as they were coming up court

"Folks this isn't going to last long.........Stamper decks him"

UK went on to win the game 106 to 100 I think

I just tweeted about this but a long-forgotten brawl occurred in Boston Garden in 1948 when the normally mild-mannered Wallace Jones went into the stands and punched out a fan who had been heckling him.

Was just talking to my wife about this very incident in 1995 just last night. Unbelievable that they assessed that technical foul to McCarty. Still, to this day, it it baffles me. They went to the monitor for several minutes, too. My Dad and I were flipping out. Changed the entire complexion of the first half and that game. Never will forget it.

That's some good stuff Jon. Loved reading the article.

Woods got into another one later in the year against Jay price from UT on Senior Night when both players were ejected. The Brewer one didn't even result in an ejection if I remember correctly.

He would "Stamper" mud-hole in your a$$ and walk it dry.

For you old timers like me, I remember a near-fight between Charles Hurt and Sean Tuohy of Ole Miss. Maybe 1980'ish? Somehow Tuohy got knocked down or fell down or something, and Hurt, being the gentleman that he was, tried to pick him up and set him back on his feet. Tuohy took exception and took a few wild but harmless swings. Fortunately for Tuohy, Hurt kinda backed off and put his arms out wide like, WTF? He would've kicked Tuohy's **** in if he got angry.

I remember a fight involving Jay Shidler with an Auburn player that was a head taller than him. 1975 season.

Isn't there a fight with Pitt and Ditka from the early 60's?

When Cats played jailhawk in 2015.

Oh sorry, that was just one sided beat down.

My dad told a story of Allen Feldhaus running a UT player completely off the floor one time. He was Rupp’s enforcer. Does anyone remember the details of this?

This may be an old wives tale. Ditka claimed in one of his books he got into some sort of altercation with Rupp. And while Ditka did indeed face UK in a game, looking back in multiple references I’ve yet to see any contemporaneous evidence of any mention of an altercation.

UK-Pittsburgh March 5, 1960

Edit: Here’s a link with the snippet of what Ditka claimed in his book.

LA Times article on Ditka-Rupp

Again I’ve seen no evidence whatsoever to support that anything like this actually happened.

It didn't come to blows but would have loved to have seen the 2 fight it out but does anyone remember when Mashburn stood up to Shaq? Wasnt Mashburns dad a former Boxer?

Winston Bennett got into a couple of fights
I remember reading somewhere that Bennett and Sam Bowie got "into it" during practice. This would've been November 1983, prior to the start of the season. Bowie, a 5th year Senior, and Bennett, a Freshman.
Supposedly, Joe B. stood off to the side and just smiled; he apparently enjoyed the toughness between the two players!

I had read that and believed it. Thanks. Had no idea it was made up.
