When he was recruiting him to come to UK, you know he had to say something like, "come to UK b/c it's the best program to have a chance at winning a NC and put you in the best position to fulfill your dreams at the next level".

What does he say now being at ...I actually don't remember which school he went to...it's with Chris Mullins though.

Play in the biggest city in the world, in one of the most famed arenas, for an NBA all-time great that personally knows what it takes to make it in the NBA.

You'll get to play in historic Madison Square Garden...in front of 7 or 8 thousand people all the way through the NIT.

Yeah come to st. John's where you will have to walk through 10 feet of snow during the winter months to go to class and possibly get shot by all the thugs in the area.
If the kid is considering that stink hole if a program, then let him go and be another failure. Or He can come to Kentucky as the stepping stone to the NBA. He will play against strong competition daily and make tons of money after the season is over. The only downside is winning the championship. It wont happen at Kentucky. Too many bias refs and egos.

"Be the guinea pig to see if Chris Mullins can even coach college basketball. Be part of starting the resurrection of this program."

To which, St. John's to men would be insane for Diallo to pick.

Jonathan w your narrative is old and tired. NYC is past it's prime and Barclays is better than the square.

Slice wants Diallo to play in Tokyo?

I am as big a CAT fan as anybody but NYC trumps Lexington and it is not even close.

Of course it does, but St. Johns does not trump UK.

Just because NYC is incredible doesn't mean he should go there.

If that were the case, why wouldn't every big time NBA free agent want to play for the Knicks?

Diallo can visit NYC as much as he wants once Cal has made him a millionaire.

I immediately thought when Slice left that our chances with Diallo didn't suffer as much as a lot of people thought. I know that the two of them are close, but Slice is now on his 3rd job in 3 years. Playing for a first time head coach could easily sharpen the learning curve. If Diallo somehow took more than 1 year to head pro, would Slice even be around? It's a lot of questions and unknowns whereas Kentucky is a much more known, proven commodity.

So I guess the question just becomes one of how much does Cheick really like Slice? Enough to gamble with his future? We'll see.

He can honestly say that St. Johns was the only place he would leave Kentucky for and explain his reasons. Obviously can pitch him on leading the St. John's resurgence, hero status, etc.

Yep.

It's called the NBA offseason.

Probably not a good pitch...I live in Texas now, but read where Lex has had mass snow this winter and the area around campus isn't that safe, but it's not on the level of a NYC,

I'm not familiar with the size of St. John's campus, but walking to class in the winter months at UK with the distance and wind....

Perhaps, but Cal + UK trumps Mullin + St. John's when it comes to college basketball relevance and having a proven track record of getting guys to the league and getting them to play up to their potential.

Boogie Cousins, Terrence Jones, Enes Kanter, Anthony Davis, Nerlens Noel, Julius Randle, WCS, Karl-Anthony Towns and soon to be Skal Labissiere >>>>>>>>>>>>>> any big man produced by St. John's in 20 years or by Mullin ever. Our list reads like a who's who of dominant NBA big men for the next 10-15 years.

Not to mention Cal's most impressive development job ever may be transforming Jorts into a legitimate center. If you're a big man that's determined to get better, Cal has proven that there's no one you should trust more to maximize your talents.

Needless to say, I think Cal has the much easier sales job when it comes to who can get the most out of Diallo, it's just all going to come down to the importance of location and whether he wants to be a one man gang or learn how to play winning team basketball that will prepare him for the next level.

This guy is a mega troll. Hates Cal, hates the players, probably a UL fan. Check out his past posts, pretty consistent.

I think this year more than any recent years, shows that most recruits just want to go where they feel comfortable for a year. Maybe somewhere close to home or relatives, maybe they like the city the college is in. They may have even liked the female prospects (or maybe lack there of). Generally speaking, they are all 17-18, and they all think they are the best, it comes with that age. They think they don't need X or Y to make it to the league, and an NCAA championship just isn't as important to them as it is to us. College is more of a "layover" (especially with the 1AD rule) than most of us think.

That said, I also want to point out, that for anyone unfamiliar with the NYC area, St. Johns is not only a "bleh" college, it's in a dump of an area in Queens. Just to get INTO Manhattan is an hour long Bus-to-Subway ride, Most places in Manhattan are going to be well over 1:15min.

What you see in movies, TV, photos.. that's not where St. Johns is.

Going to st johns means playing with most likely a sub-par non-top 20 point guard. There is no hiding that.

One of the hardest things to recruit over. Probably has tons of friends going there, close to home for meals/laundry. If he's only 40 miles away, then he definitely grew up in the city. Why leave?

What the crap does that have to do with anything. I'm sure he's going to be checking out a broadway play in between classes and eating the Ritz. He could be in Cow Pile Iowa going to school and the campus/college life will virtually be the same period

But the experience of being a UK basketball player vs. a St Johns player would be night and day for how he's treated and his experience on the college basketball stage while he's there. In that area, Lexington >>>>>>>>New York\ and it's not even close.

Aw. I was gonna make the same joke.

"If you wanna be in a movie dressed like a mobster w/ me, then come to St. Johns."

"Hey if you come to St. John's, we will teach you how to speak Chinese, because you're be going straight to China after you're done after four years."

Strongly Disagree. Trying to compare Lexington to NYC for living/fun is like trying to compare NYC to Lexington for college basketball. Both have an insurmountable advantage.

College life is great at any university that has a "college town" feel. UK has that, being in Lexington. But it's not NYC. No kid dreams of going to Kentucky. Every kid dreams of Manhattan and NYC. It's nothing against Lexington/UK/Kentucky.. it's just NYC and everyone else. Same thing as Kentucky basketball and everyone else.

Rysheed Jordan is very talented PG (was a 5 star in HS). I have a feeling under Mullin, he could be one of the best PG's in the nation...he has the tools to be that good.

As for the question, it seems like a pretty easy sell for an 18 year old. Play an hour from where you live and be the NY kid who puts SJU back on the map.

On paper, it's not comparable as for the history of the school, but when you put emotions in it, it's not an easy decisions to make.

Slice will probably try to sell him on playing close to home and probably be "the man" at St. Johns for an NBA legend.

Diallo likes playing with Briscoe according to his interview after the Jordan game, and apparently speaking French with Skal according to Briscoe. Probably going to be a tough decision for the kid. I just hope he doesn't go to Kansas.
