What would even need to happen for Cal to get canned?

if you think out of the box, there are ways to get out of paying money. or at least out of paying the whole buyout but are we willing to dig up something that could get us in trouble for a year or be embarrassing ? is someone around UK willing to go to a dark place and set Cal up on something that can be used against him?

im not condoning it, I just know for a fact from stories of family members who are boosters of other programs around the country have told me, these things definitely happen and just mentioning its something that could happen , not condoning it. I think we should just tell him retire or we'll fire you and we'll negotiate how we'll pay the buyout.

I’ll take a 5 year probation if it got Cal fired. I’d even take a post season ban this year to make it happen. Probably ain’t going to the tournament anyway.

Someone needs to make it happen. At this point I don’t how it happens, as long as something happens that makes Calipari leave the school and state forever.

I'll take a post season ban to get a coach with fire , passion, and one the refs/sec/ncaa doesnt hate in here at UK.

The recruiting has to dry up first. The UK fanbase need to convince the incoming class to either jump to the D League or find a different school. Without the fanfare of recruiting Cal has nothing!

Seriously. I feel like the only way we let him go is if he shoots someone in broad daylight. But even then idk.

Just feels like we are stuck with this SOB until he decides he is done.

Is there a realistic scenario where we let this a hole go this year?
Good question. What would it take? Well, for starters, what is happening right now.

A coach who is quickly moving to a very isolated island on which he has no voice, no friends, no support, and not many quality wins.

Someone who is 4-17 in his last 21 games against the top 25. It appears that it won't be improving anytime soon.

A coach who realizes -- finally -- that for whatever reason, he can no longer relate to his players. My strong opinion is that he is doing that now, and that his stubbornness is also a trait of his that won't be changing soon and it will continue to scuttle any chances of getting close to Final Fours and NC's.

A coach who simply cannot beat rivals in or out of the SEC.

A coach who realizes that he does need a change, that being here too long is tough because of our high expectations and he is starting to feel that more and more...good in the beginning, but now too many losses and not enough victories.

A coach who realizes he truly not only has lost the support of the fan base, but also big time money donors. Cal is stubborn, but not stupid. If this trend goes much longer (I think next year is his last at UK), then he will not want to continue here, life contract notwithstanding. Coach K could do what he did because of his intellect and a different fan base.

A coach who finally realizes that his NBA first, NC's second philosophy has flaws in it that fundamentally make it exceedingly tough to win a National Championship. I think player dedication takes a hit with that philosophy, they see it for the sham and scam that it is, and it can breed jealousy among young people that helps fracture team cohesiveness. Remember, he's a marketing scholar (I no longer think he's a genius), and he has been able to sell this idea to the kids. It's great until you see so many names now on the ask heap of NBA failure and flame out. I'm also not convinced of his or the staff's collective ability to judge talent.

A coach that sees he's out of excuses. This year, there is really no excuse. Players are not properly prepared or coached, offensive schemes are still plodding and sputtering, and there are not only defensive mistakes, they are fundamental and at times elementary mistakes made by experienced players. He seems to lack the ability to motivate and teach his teams to play hungry and with an attitude.

Did you notice tonight that he put in no subs with about 8 minutes left. He was playing his toughest lineup, yet when Missouri went to zone and stayed in it to finish the game, Reeves was not put into the game. Laughable to see Lance Ware on a wing against the zone! What in God's name was he doing there? And, Ware committed a TO against the zone too. Just not prepared and not well coached.

Cal is on that road to ruin--he knows it and I think now it will be just a matter of time before he chooses to go to another school. I truly think his fortunes here, absent of a change in philosophy, will not end well. One of his is trying not to listen to or understand fans' frustrations, i.e., what he says is the "clutter." I resent that he calls it that--the reason we love UK BB is because my grandmother and her mother loved seeing UK win its first championships. Several generations have seen huge success and have passed that love of the Cats onto us. We cannot be just people who he shrugs off as insignificant "Basketball Bennies." I think he'll finally acknowledge widespread fan dislike of him personally and no one can stay in a place (See Tubby Smith) and like that. I even think now on some level that he enjoys the hurt that fans feel just because he does know that so many are against him.

For the record, this so far has been a colossal failure but to me it is not surprising. I want him to succeed. I want to go back to some of those glory days. But, I have little confidence in his ability to turn this season. His bench coaching has always left a good amount to be desired, but now it's several other things at work to put the brakes on his tenure as our coach. Dark clouds are forming rapidly...

I could keep going but...

Barnhart needs to go too. What a joke this program has become.
This then hire an AD to apply pressure on cal. No babying him with interviews especially the coaches show with leach. Hell make sure leach or whoever is gonna interview make sure they start asking things like “are you thinking or resigning?” “You’ve had the worst 3 year run in history why don’t you bow out now?” Dig deep on cal. Stop with the stupid questions about lineup changes. The local media in Lexington are afraid of him. Everything is spun to his favor. None of that is gonna happen until we have an AD who can challenge Cals ego. Who plays hardball. Barney is sitting back doing nothing while cal bilks the school out of millions. So you either pay the man for zero (buyout) or pay him for the net negative (killing the program) . The money is there Barney has to raise it.

I’m sure if they really wanted him out there’s plenty of disgruntled ex players that would be able to prove he intentionally violated rules. Cheaper to pay a ex player that can prove it and willing to testify than to pay his buyout.

There's nothing the fans can do except not go to games. An empty Rupp sends a message but that's about it. Another bad season and early exit from the tournament, if we even make it, and at least the media will be on his ass too. If and when he does leave, Barnhart needs to leave with him.
Media is already on him. This is all Mitch’s fault. Never ever ever give an extension to anyone without results.

He won’t get fired. He needs to be encouraged to quit.

One scenario (if you are hoping for it) would be for UK to just absolutely tank in SEC making fan pressure over the top. Then UK and Cal sit down to negotiate a buy out as it will have gotten to miserable for Cal to handle.

Another scenario, Tubby like situation (my preference) where some school comes and offers him 6-8 mil a year to coach and Cal leaves on his own accord just to be happy for his golden years in coaching. It is possible...in this scenario he probably takes his whole class minus Reed with him...so be it, I guess.
