What kind of spin will the "Insiders" use?

Leading up to this there was so much self-aggrandizing going on. Now, just crickets...
This right here. The video they put out yesterday on here by the CI staff was analyzing the team Haarma as part of it. Graf said he was coming to UK.
Today, radio silence. They have the nerve to ask peole to pay for their info. Will never happen with me. What would I be paying for?
No fan of Matt Jones by any stretch, but at least he doesn't charge for his "info".

To be fair the guys on HOB, they were never even close to guaranteeing Haarms to Kentucky. One (Travis Graf) said his guess was Kentucky but it wasn’t a lock, and the other (David Sisk) had posted Monday (and I’m copy/pasting this line),

“A source close to the Purdue program that I have known and trusted for years told me that Haarms and Kentucky do not go together.”

I had felt nervous about Haarms ever since. Sisk has always been especially careful on predicting and neither of them speak in absolutes. There were others (not CI staff) that had stated that they heard it was a done deal. But that you’ll find anywhere; rafters, Twitter etc.

But I was a HOB member when TJ Walker was the basketball guy and I can say the info is WAY better now. I liked TJ but his sources were apparently too enthusiastic. David and Travis are as top notch as guys in that end of things can be.

It happens, sometimes I go to Kroger wanting rotisserie chicken, but they are out of chicken. I had told everyone what I wanted and planned on getting it. But, I had to go with ribs, since they were ready and the best fit since I wasn't waiting for more chicken.

Watch the video they put out yesterday. Especially what Graf says.

They were SO giggly, posting smiley faces and winks all over the place, retweeting everyone. Sure they never GUARANTEED, but that is a technicality they are using to hide behind it. Go back and look at all their posts.

Why would anyone pay for info? I don’t get it? Is it so you can run around your neighborhood or place of work and tell everyone we are probably going to get a recruit in a couple of days? Almost everyone will say, “what,” as most people have no clue who is being recruited; and don’t know players until they show up at Big Blue Madness. Is it so you can feel like you’re in the know? Why pay for something you will know In a day or two anyway? I just don’t get why this service is even in existence?

There are some here who like when others think they are in the know. Haarms seemed like a good fit and the people all now saying we dodged a bullet would have been the same ones saying Number 9 here we come. If we don't land anyone you will soon see the posts again on how we have those existing recruits that can fill this position. People can rationalize anything.

This seems to have been a trend for some time now in terms of the optimism. TJ has mentioned that a number of times on Kentucky Roll Call; more specifically, the staff and those around the program tend to be overly optimistic about most recruiting situations—this seems to be why he was once overly optimistic most of the time because his source(s) at one time seemed to stem from within the program.

But, as frustrated as the fan base has been with some aspects of our most-recent recruiting cycles, I’m sure the staff shares the same sentiment.

Hell, with Duke (allegedly[roll]) giving Zion’s family a house in Durham, I’m sure Cal is just as pissed about recruiting as we all have been at times with some of the things that have been taking place the last few years.

They will all just move on to the next likely scenario. UK and Cal in good position for a 2021 to reclassify.

This thread is a great way for me to add to my ignore list.
No reason to disrespect the guys on this site that are supplying info.

I think Travis/David are doing a great job of reporting what they hear and trying to read the tea leaves. Kids, families, handlers, AAU coaches, high school coaches, and the college coaches are media savvy now and make this type of info much more difficult.

I am actually surprised this doesn't happen more often.

Reality - the only "insiders" in EACH recruitment are the player's inner circle. PERIOD.

Hell, this is late April, no tournament, no high school all star games during a pandemic for @#$#@$% sake... we all should be happy that we have something to talk about.

Now on with the "virtual" NFL draft!!!!!

one more note... I am paying for this site now and have been in the House of Blue alot recently.. and it's worth it.

Okay, Travis/David.... we believe you.

I am not sure which I find more amusing -- the 'insiders' when wrong, or the people who pay for insiders trying to defend why they pay.

I look at it this way...I'm 72 years old, I've waited 72 years to find out where these guys are going to school. Another day or 2 won't matter and I save some money. Besides, one of these days I'm going to wake up dead then it really won't matter.

Don't elevate their word because it caresses your preexisting bias or comports with your preferred narrative. They are a providing their "professional" opinion. They can be more informed that us, but that does not entail infallibility within their professional domain.

Perfect post.

people get some embroiled in finding out —- and finding out something everyone will eventually find out. Let the coaches deal with the mess that is recruiting. Root for em when the become players for your team— officially.

if folks knew half the stuff that goes on in recruiting, they’d run far and fast from that scene.

I actually just started paying so I could get more insight from David since he watches the games multiple times. I don't have time anymore to follow the team as closely as I want.... so it's great to get his perspective on how the game played out. It wasn't for the recruiting updates (which there are ALOT of them).

I certainly don't think my 10$ a month warrants me knowing what is really going on...just let me know who are our options and I can sit back and let it play out. Yeah sure it's nice to get an early scoop that pans out... but if you follow recruiting long enough you learn how volatile it is and no matter how many locks, silent verbals, or done deals happen - you can't count on a kid to be here until the season starts. And as we saw this season....a kid can leave in middle of the season
(Wiseman, Whitney, etc..)

I have enjoyed the HOB message board though. Less arguments and name calling...

How does one, "wake up dead" exactly?

But is the “info” worth the money we’ve spent? Sure they are just giving their guesses and predictions... but what makes it worth it at this point?

David is a great dude btw.

For me right now, yes. It's worth it. I have enjoyed the HOB message board. I like the constant updates.

To clarify your statement on guesses and predictions... I hope you would agree that their guesses and predictions are much better then someone like me with zero contacts. I would imagine they have experienced that some of their guesses and predictions have a low confidence factor... and there are situations were they are 99.9% sure (to the point it's not a guess anymore). They have a tough job, trying to sift through all the misinformation, different agendas, and trying to predict something that is inherently unpredictable.

I think "insider" is used way to loosely now. Not that Haarms inner circle didn't have any say.. but the only insider in this recruitment was most likely Haarms, a 23 year old with a college degree who could play professionally was most likely going to make the decision himself.

This recruitment didn't go our way... but we did know where he was going before the announcement.

Another thing... I didn't expect them to be an "insider" on a recruit that's 23 and is from the Netherlands. If it wasn't for the Pandemic we could have all chipped in and sent one of them to Amsterdam to get inside scoop from the Haarms family...lol.
