What I have heard....

read this article resently.....

A couple of nuggets that I found interesting. The Coens bought a bought a house a month before the Rams came calling. That should put to rest that his wife stayed on the West Coast.

Secondly, McVay is not likely going to let Coen go without a fight. From the article, McVay said he had relied heavily on Coen the previous three years and he had to find a way to get him back to LA.
Yep, I knew he had bought the house and was planning some minor fix ups which is one reason I said he had no plans of leaving uk . It all happened very quickly.

So the picture used to be Rams then?
I didn’t say that. I said it isn’t accurate to say he hasn’t been active on Twitter despite not actually tweeting anything g. I don’t know what his picture history is but His bio line did say that he was Rams OC but now just says football coach. He also has spent time liking posts within the last few days as well so he has been active on Twitter.

Saw where Stafford's out this week too. Point is no playoffs could make Coen available sooner.

Is the Coen talk legit or just media speculation?
More than likely media speculation would be my guess. Not starting a slurpfest/I hate MJ post. The post I saw said after talking to a few people. To me, that’s code for WAG. I’m sure Stoops would take Coen back in a hot second, that’s a quick text, would you be interested. There wouldn’t need to be a lot of back and forth with that particular hire. I do think they have their guy beings it’s already posted and expires in a couple of days. No idea if it’s Coen or not.

That's the way I see it too. I wouldn't blame Stoops for making Coen tell me "No" more than once. I too think Stoops has his guy(this has been going on for some time IMO, didn't start the day Scang was let go). Same for RB coach. But.....that Yenser hasn't been let go could be a hint. The coming week is going to be most a very important week to UK football on several fronts.

Also his picture shows him wearing a UK cap and his son is sporting a UK shirt

I am sure the staff had KSR to "leak" this information for several reasons.

The biggest being recruiting and trying to keep our own players, especially our talented wide receivers out of the transfer portal until they can get an OC hired.

I think it was the Mizzou game, I posted in the game thread that I think Stoops didn't have confidence in the offense to move the ball. Idon'tr remember the exact scenario but it was decision time on a down and distance, he elected to kick. They showed the sideline,Stoops was shaking his head, it was written all over his face, he didn't have confidence in that unit.

I have no idea. I'm still not convinced it's Coen, he wants to be a HC in the NFL. He is in a better spot to accomplish that where he is.

Makes sense. And no question coaches use the media to get out their storyline.

But.....Stoops mentioned the week after the season ended he met with or was meeting with his players one on one. Would he have told players such as Brown/Key who he was targeting? I would think he would. Would that indicate Coen was coming? I don't know, I'm not good at the subliminal game.

YES!!! MOST DEFINITELY!!!

Coach Stoops is going to keep his most talented young offensive players in the loop WAAAAYYYY MORE than Matt Jones!!

The Big Dawg is using KSR and Matt Jones as a distraction more than anything else. I hope Coen comes back, but his name being floated around so much makes me think Stoops has already got someone else that can't come right away.

When he doesn't even actually call the plays, they are 3-8 with little to NO shot at the playoffs and the fan base doesn't like him?
different world in the NFL, they don't give much thought to the fanbase chatter. There are reasons their offense is struggling that have nothing to do with play calling. Even though that's McVay anyway. Cam Akers (Head Case) this year, lost Whitworth to retirement, don't have OBJ, Woods, or Deshaun Jackson to take some pressure off of Kupp. Atwell looks like he is finally growing into his roll but is probably not going to really contribute until next year. Van Jefferson is inconsistent. Stafford is banged up this year.

So, if Mcvay decides to hang it up, which is more likely than not with all of the things you just listed, do you think the Rams will keep Coen?

Or if Mcvay stays, is Coen an integral part of the Rams offensive structure going forward?

Or does Coen want to stay in L.A. for a rebuild that is going to take YEARS to get back to the top, if ever?

Let me preface, I hope Stoops lands Coen, might possibly be the best recruiting job of his tenure.

If McVay stays, I think Coen probably stays. Teams around the league know why the Rams are struggling this year. To them it's more about hoping Coen would bring some of that McVay mojo to their team. By the way, whatever hope the Rams at the playoffs just went to less than zero. Stafford just went on the IR.

I'm just looking at it long term for Coen. He could return to UK with a boatload of young talent, bring in another QB that he has ties to and show the world that he wasn't a one year wonder.

From the Rams end, Coen hasn't shown very much since he returned and more likely than not, was a Mcvay favorite that he could trust. So that's why I believe it may be beneficial to both parties(Rams AND Coen) to part ways amicably.

But at this point WHO KNOWS.

Aside from being an obvious and fairly popular choice for UK's OC and a familiar teacher for most of our offensive roster, Coen should be available earlier than any other OC alternative I could see Stoops pursuing now. What's not to like, right?

I hope like hell it's coen, I just don't see it. He definitely has his sights set on the NFL and for that there literally isn't a better position for him to be in than where he is now.

I guess it's a plausible explanation to think we offered him an absurd amount of money that he could still make that jump. It just seems highly unlikely.

Also if Jones later tweet about appeasing players has truth - will we now just fire staff anytime players aren't happy? I don't think that's at all sustainable. We now owe a major buyout and any absurd salary will drive up other assistant salaries.

Finally - whomever it is, they're already hired in principle. For years, football doesn't make the mandatory posting of the opening until they "hired" someone. They posted the job day of or after scang was fired. So they have someone

Coen's "position" ACTUALLY couldn't be any WORSE. He's an OC that doesn't call his team's plays, yet gets BLAMED for their lack of production even with all of the injuries. Then add in the facts that his HC is likely to bail after the season because the Rams are headed toward a TOTAL rebuild.

If Coen wants to keep his name in the spotlight instead of back into obscurity, the best thing for him to do is RETURN to the job that made him an ASSET.

To your second point, with NIL, NCAA Football just became a PLAYER"S league. Like Coach Stoops stated about 2 weeks ago, now he has to deal with 85 Free Agents at the end of EVERY year. So his BEST players will MOST CERTAINLY have a HUGE say in who they play for.

I don't know if others have thought about this - but it has been in the back of my mind - that Mark Stoops might have another position at UK soon.................. I know this is old school thinking - but it sure worked for many other schools in the past............ How about Mark Stoops to become UK's Athletic Director? I think it would be the best thing he could do for UK football!

Go Big Blue!
You obviously didn't watch how that turned out at UT with Fat Phil

Boys i know most of y'all don't follow the NFL, but if McVey retires there is 0% chance they promote Coen to the big chair. Like no chance whatsoever. Which is the only reason I give the Coen back to UK stuff a chance of being real.

KSR "reporting" is often positive spin Vince Marrow wants the fans hearing. Or, recruits. Almost no actual unbiased journalism or investigative reporting at that place. UK sport version of MSNBC.

So if we pretend KSR is Fox News does that make the chances better Coen comes?

I’m not convinced Coens is in as good of a position as you say . All depends on what Mcvays plans are going to be. I don’t believe any other NFL team was ready to give Coen their Offensive Coordinator job last year and I don’t believe he has done anything this year to earn it . I’d say if Mcvay does in fact retire , Coen will be dropping back to quarterback coach somewhere .

And the very poor performance and numbers this year put up by Scang give him incentive . . . wouldn’t be too tough to show a 30-50 percent scoring increase in a year with a good QB.

He likely still wants a HC position in the NFL, but won’t get it after the implosion with Rams’ production this season.

It makes perfect sense for him to rebuild that reputation in the League that has slightly larger stadia than does the NFL!!

Why anyone would want to live in LA other than for the weather is beyond me

How many mcvay/rams OCS are now head coaches? The rams aren't the only path forward.

There's reports that Amazon offered McVay a 5-year $100 million deal when they were launching Thursday Night Football last year. There's zero chance he turns down anything close to that after this season. The Rams are looking at a long rebuild and he can make way more money doing way less work in the TV booth. He's a young guy and just got married and wants a break from being a head coach. He'll pop back up a few years down the road when a prime opening emerges. Sean Payton is doing this right now.

Coen could bounce around in the NFL as a QB coach or a co-offensive coordinator, or return here, make over a million a year and build his resume better than he could as a lower-tier NFL coach. I bet he loves the idea of picking a portal QB and running the offense through Barion Brown and Dane Key. He recruited both and spoke highly of them on signing day before he left for the Rams.
