What happens to players not picked up in the portal?

It won't be too long until we see in season pickups and cuts. College athletics is dead.
Do you realize people watching college sports (basketball & football) was way up this year?

College sports are NO LONGER an amateur sport, but it’s far from dead. It’s actually growing! (Doesn’t mean we have to like what it’s turned into.)

I don’t think he meant the popularity is dead but what it once was is dead.

YES !! I think the recent surge, you see it everywhere, in the gaming industry has added to people watching sports.

I think for those of us that are not big professional sports followers, the amateur aspect was something we appreciated. I get that money drives everything now, there’s no mistaking that. But, if I wanted all the contract drama, holdouts, guys not honoring their word, I’d watch pro sports. But, I don’t care for any of that stuff. Not to mention the intangible stuff is going away as well.

Players bounce around now from team to team, there is no school loyalty anymore. Kids that would have stayed 4 years (like Travis Perry) and possibly become contributors later in their careers, not to mention fan favorites, won’t stay now. You can’t tell me mercenaries “get” the UL/UK rivalry. The hatred that goes along with that rivalry was born out of guys going to those schools and playing in that game every year, losing to them and having to hear about for another year. Cinderellas are a dying breed. That’s all gone now!

Just realize that there were a lot of great things about the way college hoops used to be too. Not everything has gotten better.

It's the equivalent of the player in the green room who goes undrafted and has to sit there while all the cameras zoom in on his face, waiting for him to cry. Shoulda stayed in school son!

Fairly certain that NO green room invitee ever was undrafted.

That argument is tough to sell. Are the sports gamblers spending more time watching as more states legalize sports gambling? Sure. But are more people watching college football and college basketball? Doubt it.

Which is another reason they have to create a body to investigate refs in all sports. It’s too easy to fix games with them with no repercussions, they don’t even have to talk to the media. They should watch games, and look for suspect things. Do periodic audits of the financials to make sure they aren’t getting bribed the best they can at least, with gambling legal everywhere it will happen again and I’ve seen so many suspect things in our games alone I know we aren’t the only ones.

I agree with you. If you don't like these changes just wait until the get a players union and go on strike. It will happen.
