CBS Sports updated portal rankings and who is remaining, unsigned.

I suggested prior to his decision that Wilkerson felt like the old "spring signee" days under Tubby, where BBN got way too caught up in a guy because he was available, as if he was always elite. Remember Rekalin Sims? Ramon Harris? What about the guy who chose another year of prep school instead of UK? The list goes on and on ...

The group of players who entered the portal in the last 72 hours are almost all better than Wilkerson, in terms of who UK fans would rather have on the roster.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Building a roster can't be impulsive or reckless, that's what Cal did in his last few years.

Every list I have seen has Williams higher than Wilkerson, yet Wilkerson was suppose to be this savior and Williams has become an afterthought.

Williams shoots almost as well as Wilkerson, and he plays defense while Wilkerson reportedly cannot guard a lamppost.

What am I missing? A Sophomore to be that can shoot, play better defense, is three inches taller, and played in a tougher conference, and is rated higher should be viewed as more valuable than a Senior that can shoot, doesn’t play defense, is shorter, plays in a weaker conference, and is lower rated.

I guess because he scores more points and has more experience?

I value experience, but the defense is what gets me. After last season, I guess I overvalue a guy that can straight up lock you down on the perimeter.

Wilkerson got way over-valued by Indiana who was in a desperate spot for players.
I am tired of players that opposing teams abuse their defensive weakness. From all accounts, Williams is a really good defender. He could be our surprise talent next season.

My post above answers your question.

This is a good comparison.

Jarrod Carter gonna save the program
Rekalin Sims is the best JUCO PF in the history of the sport
Don’t sleep on Adam Williams
Can we land Dan Werner?
Marshall Moses is the answer.

Would love to try and get a bargain bin signing from Elon G/F 6-7 Jr. to be, Nick Dorn. Dude hit 36% from 3,,, but on 8.4 attempts, making 3 per game. Straight assassin. Averaged 15/4 as a sophomore and had 17 @ UNC on 5/10 from 3, and 24 v/s Notre Dame, on 5/6 from 3. Scored 29 against Marshall , hitting 6/10 from 3. 81% free throw shooter to boot.

Earlier in the week the sky was falling on here with the Wilkerson miss and now look at the guys who have entered the portal. Wilkerson was the shiny object for a few days and we have guys rated higher than him already. The portal closing next week may be a advantage to us since guys will want to close a deal before the deadline.

Great year for top 25 type guys. Probably less depth than years past due to the lack of extra year guys. There are some great college players at the top of the rankings.

Not sure but Hunter McClintock was a thing one spring. I think he went juco then Oral Roberts or maybe straight to Oral Roberts. Unreal that he was actually a must get for many on this board.

I looked it up, it was Roderick Flemings. Was down to UK and Hawaii and chose Hawaii.

This was our rock bottom from a recruiting standpoint IMO. I remember the meltdown being catastrophic.

Yeah I remember him now that I've heard his name.

One of my favorites was our obsession with Leonard Washington. He was the missing piece that would complete our 08-09 roster...

Barbour was a heck of a talent. For whatever reason he was just ok at UK. Nothing amazing.
He wasn’t quite the same after that wrist injury. He also played on two loaded teams, so PT wasn’t as plentiful as it maybe could have been somewhere else. Not to mention, we never really ended up “running more” from season to season under Tubby. All in all, AB was solid here IMO.

Hate to say it, but I’m really starting to dislike BYU. They’ve never been a basketball power, but NIL seems as if it may change that, if it isn’t regulated and soon. They can just literally outspend everyone. It’s absurd.
NIL will make a non basketball school be extremely tough every year. This is the reason strong basketball schools will be having a much tougher time winning it all every year. Talent will be more dispersed and any school with cash will buy a great team. This year it could be BYU, next year it could be another school that typically is not a strong basketball school. The almighty dollar rules in college sports.

He was. I remember going to watch him in juco. Good lord what a freak. He put on a show that night with tubby in attendance

We now have:

#11 JQ (#1 if healthy)
#36 Lowe
#43 Williams
#59 Aberdeen
#62 Mo D

Plus:
-A 2nd-team All-SEC guy in Oweh returning
-A former Mickey D Brandon Garrison
-Two top 25 incoming recruits
-Former top 30 recruit Collin Chandler
- And one of the top 3 foreign transfers in Jelavic
- Plus two in-state snipers in Perry and Noah

That's a top 5 team.
