Top 10 recruit, now our lone senior and is not even close to being a leader. Bad hands, cant dribble, cant shoot. Goes for every head fake, teases fanbase with a big game once a month against inferior competition and now missing all of his free throws. As far from predicted potential as any Cal recruit until we see if Skal comes around.


Top 2 recruit, Top 2 predicted NBA prospect, #1 center prospect - amazingly frail with very little fight.


Number 1 guard prospect - can't shoot free throws, can't shoot jumpers.


Our best big still lacks basketball instincts and has bad hands.


Our best player is only 5'9 which brings limitations on defense and offense.


Cal his work cut out for him this season.

Dedicate yourself to defense. This team is so far away from even formulating a decent gameplan on offense so you might as well figure out your defense. But it begins with effort and this team doesn't bring effort to games away from Rupp.

Welp, when you look at it that way it is depressing. I still think Murray, Ulis and Briscoe (IF he can approach anywhere close to the 70% FT he supposedly shot in HS going forward) is enough to make a run. The bigs are flawed but serviceable if our guards play to their potential.

I would like to agree. Who knows with Briscoe, Murray may be too erratic. I will hold on the entire season.
 
There is no answer. Have to win every game at home. Squeak out one, maybe two wins on the road. That gets you 9-7 in the SEC, and with win over UL and Duke out of conference, we should be able to get in the tournament. At that point, maybe Cal can work his tournament magic.

Well, I agree with wait till next year. I can't enjoy a team that goes through the motions.
 
First of all, you cannot continue to try and play Skal 15+ minutes a game. He's a 3 star. There's nothing else to it. Enough of the experts here who've been claiming "to be good in March he must be blah blah blah.,," he's not gonna a contributor to this team. Time to start realizing it.

Stop recruiting 1 dimensional lanky defenders. It's creating chaos in our offense. At Kentucky you should be able to hit shots, and if you can't, STOP SHOOTING.

Starting there might help.

We have several guys on the roster who are supposed to be good offensive players. That's not a valid criticism this year.

Yep. I refuse to watch a team that's not even trying. It would be different if they played with at least a little desire.

He doesn't have a whole lot of options, right now. We don't have anyone who can score inside. We are only going to go as far as our outside shooting will take us.

But if you cannot hit anything, at all, and you shoot a good amount, it's a problem. It also causes issues on the offense end when he's on the floor.

Poythress is a straight up sissy. I want to see him be an alpha male. Dunk it over some punk then get in their face. And I don't want to see us with any more Briscoe's. Skal's weak too but there's hope for him maybe....Next year with 25lbs of muscle added and a killer instinct developed. Yeah Poe, this is just BS man. We play weak and soft. let rebounds be taken away from us. Let bums block our shots etc

What you do is not offer guys that shouldn't be here in the first place. Like Briscoe. There were NUMEROUS better guards in the class but Cal took him early. I called it stupid then and it's even more stupid now. I'll give him a break on Skal because he showed ability in high school. Briscoe has always been this player even in HS.

As for now, sit Briscoe's ass and start Murray at SG and either Matthews/Mulder/Willis at SF. As for down low, not much you can do because there's nobody on the roster to put in. Skal is a bust, Humphies is a 4 year player, we know what Lee and AP are and Tai is much closer to a 4 year guy than a 1-2 year type talent.

Every single bit of this crap is on Cal for 1.) encouraging players to go even when they shouldn't and 2.) doing the worst job recruiting since he's been here. Not to mention that his actual coaching isn't that great as well. It's been that way his whole time here.

It's true we've had lots of talent and cal has cost himself. There's no reason to recruit players like Briscoe who bring nothing to the table save some defense (at times) and layups. I e said it for 4 years, start having some respect for what big time college shooters bring.

I don't give him a pass at all on Skal. Did he scout him? People in Memphis were saying for a year why is UK recruiting him, he's not UK material. Cal didn't hear this?

The best way to do this is a mix. Cal hasn't figured it out and it's cost him 1 title minumum and probably 2.

Skal doesn't look like he's going to get any better this year, which was my only hope. This team doesn't know how to make stops to mount a comeback. When we get down big, it's over. We have never seriously even pushed LSU tonight. We got nothing out of Poythress or Lee. We're down 12 on the road with 2:30 to play, and our big shoots a long 2. Just idiotic. This team has no idea what it takes to win on the road. No idea whatsoever. Soft is the only word I have to describe what I'm watching.

He's a HOF coach, he will have them in the Final Four
 
At the present time this team is a misfit at best. Confused, unsure of themselves play with no confidence, fumbling bunch of guys. Where are the timeouts? Where are the instructions and coaching? UCLA, Ohio State. LSU. Who is next? followed by who else?
Call me when they learn the game. They are slightly better than me playing, and I am not good at it at all.

At the very least, he accepts it. And you'd be hard pressed to find a worse perimeter defender than Jamal Murray.

Nobody should ever be in the paint unless it is on a drive, lob or going for a rebound. I'd rather watch bob newhart pet crickets than watch this team fumble the damn ball away on one more pointless ****ing post up.

It's not like he is coming back from an ACL injury or anything.
 
I'd start Mulder over Briscoe next game and make Briscoe's a** stay in the gym and shoot 3 or 400 free throws EVERY practice. And a couple hundred mid range jumpers. At least Mulder can make FT's and if he plays enough could probably avg 10 points a game and hit 3-4 3's a game.

Time to let that excuse go son, Alex has been timid since the Duke game his frosh year. His offensive basketball skills have not improved and he does not have the intensity or desire to take over the paint.

He has improved defensively, although it didnt show tonight.
