What are your overall thoughts on UKs season so far?

The thing that I'm most happy about is that our football culture is changing right before our eyes.

Our team expects to win close games and our players DO NOT have that losing mentality that has weighed down the program for decades.

The recruiting of talent has been impressive, but the winning mentality is most impressive to me!
good call. Seeing us close out 2 games running the ball and getting first downs is a sight for sore eyes. In the past, maybe we are still leading but then have to punt and watch the other team march down the field in the final minutes to break our hearts again. NOT THIS TEAM! Won't even mention the adversity in the first game where they came down and scored the go ahead TD by *gasp* running the ball. This ain't your pappy's UK team. Past UK teams would be 1-3 or even 0-4.

I thought we'd be right about where we are but admit that that was more a hope than realistic. Beat EKU and Auburn, anything becomes possible this season.

Thrilled with the team. Anyone who expected better than a 3-1 start and are disappointed and looking down on the team are unrealistic, and probably untruthful on what they were actually saying all offseason as well.

They are the exact opposite of what I expected, thought we would be a high scoring offense but a weak defense that gave up lots of scoring as well. Turns out it is the defense leading the way, and the offense is still finding itself. But with so much talent and playmakers on offense I think in time they will be a dangerous high scoring unit.

The think noone talks about is what a talented and now DEEP team Stoops has built here. Even during the very best of the Claiborne or Brooks years the best they had were great starting 22's, but an injury here or there would doom their seasons. The '07 team was good enough starters to beat LSU...but 2 weeks later injuries and lack of depth they lost to a middlin Miss St team. This year's team has survived the suspension of our best DE Hatcher the 1st 2 games, 3 games without our best linebacker. last game we won without a starting DT, 3 regular starters on the O line, and the luxury of benching our starting star tailback due to lack of adequate performance.

Kind of troubled by some guys who were talked about frequently preseason who havent gotten much of a chance to play, Bone & Montgomery at WR, Horton needs more carries at RB, love to see frosh King more involved in the offense. And we burned redshirts on talented true frosh defenders Allen & Daniels, get them some more snaps to justify this.

So very excited to see this team grow, win more games convincingly, finish with a winning record and participate in postseason!!

Agree with all. The only game I see as difficult to win is Georgia. After EKU, we should be competitive with every team left on the schedule. Vandy and Charlotte are expected wins with UofL a tossup due to rivalry game and uncertainty of injuries.

The current depth and youth of our team are positives we haven't experienced in years. Those attributes plus continued great recruiting, outstanding football and new university facilities create a template for football success unlike anything we've seen.

3 -1 record is what I thought we would be. But offensively we haven't been nearly as explosive or high scoring as I hoped we would be. The defense has played much better than I thought they would. So if our offense does continue to improve and our defense holds solid without wearing down like they did last year, UK will surpass the 7-5 record I was thinking.

Better than I predicted. I thought we would be 2-2 right now. Still gun shy of getting excited. After 40 years of a lot of disappointment it is hard to change.

Much improved and the building process is trending right. People expect more than where we should be..like last year that was actually a good yr for a team that probably was really expected to win 2 or 3 games. They still won't be where most fans think they shold be for another 2. But they are doing really well and people should be proud about that

I am impressed so far. I thought uk would be 2-2 or 3-1 at best. However I expected a win over Florida. At this point I am excited for football and should be watching it along side basketball in November!

JPFisher, You make some good points, most I agree with. However I disagree and take issue with this one:

"I don't need to watch our performance against Miss. St or UGA to determine where we're at as a program."

How quickly you forget! Did you BUY IN to our EARLY SUCCESS last year when we were 5-1?

Be very careful what 'litmus test" you are using to evaluate how far OUR CATS FOOTBALL PROGRAM has come, and the "caliber" of SEC opponents we are beating. Be VERY CAREFUL!

I don't really care if you disagree. You follow that with assuming I am disregarding last year's meltdown and then insinuating that I jumped on the bandwagon after we went 5-1. I have not forgotten. You can also look at posts from before the season where I mentioned that we would not have the depth to be competitive in the latter half of the season. We didn't, oddly enough.

This season, however, our depth across the board is far better. We are two-deep at every position and at some positions, 3-deep. I already know that our program's depth is far superior to Joker's last year and has improved quite a bit from last year as well. Are we deep enough to make it all the way through conference play with consistency? No. However, if we are running on fumes, I'm going to factor that into our final record.

You could have a team of 33 players. One player for each position. They could be the NFL's best. However, there's only 33 of them for offense, defense, and special teams. They will drop from the top 25 altogether around week 3 of the CFB season. There's only so much recruiting and developing that can happen with guys this young. We are still building the foundations for a great program, and we do not yet have the resources to finish a season the same way we began. We really do not. We likely won't have that for another few years.

What we do have, however, is quality. We may not have as many players as the Georgias or Alabamas, but we do have very high quality players at many positions. Everything that is not time dependent is already improved, and that is my "litmus test." Regardless of what you insinuate, Missouri is a good team.

I've been careful this whole time. I suggest you take you own advice.

P.s. Try to find a better analogy. Litmus is an antiquated method of measuring pH. We have more advanced methods of figuring out the world around us in this day and age. Sincerely, a Bachelor of Science.

JPFisher...

When you were a child, you did not play well with others? Did you?

LOL! Nobody is insinuating anything.

I disagreed with your point, made my observation, and you took it personally.
Additionally, you make two or three additional points in your reply, that I do not agree with.

But it's not worth any further typing time to discuss this with you: a "DEFENSIVE PERSONALITY" is a true fault that is developed in childhood when a child feels inadequate and less than others.

Add in to this personality disorder your belief that an 0-1 SEC team (Missiouri) is a good team, and now your bordering on strong denial issues.

You need to get some help bro!

GO CATS!

You're talking down to me as a Cardinal fan would. I actually think I recognize your false reasonings. I've tangled with you somewhere before. I'm almost certain....

Brian. In the SEC, you just have to lose one or two key guys. At the NFL level, players are highly specialized. Try replacing a hurt OT with a defensive lineman. If the QB goes down, are you going to bring in the backup WR? No breaks for four quarters. SEC. Nobody to call on when you need a breather. NFL players may be great at what they do, but they tire like the rest of us and they can't move around the field like a WR/CB or DL/OL in high school. That was my point.
