Were The Beatles a 'rock' band?

I wanna hold your hand - pop
Twist and shout - dance
Revolution- Rock/protest
Revolution Number 9 - experiment in sound.
Admiral Halsey - LSD is goood.

George should have had more influence. As I have aged the answer to Paul vs John is easy. George.

George Harrison got Eric Clapton to play lead guitar on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".

Then Harrison returned the favor and helped Clapton finish one of his Cream songs. The song was untitled and Harrison completed the lyrics and wrote "Bridge" beside one section. His penmanship was so bad, Clapton looked at it and asked "What is a Badge?". They laughed about it and titled the song: "Badge".

Harrison played rhythm guitar on the track. You hear the Beatle influence, especially on the "bridge" after the 2nd verse.

Cream: Badge

I won’t deny the incredible diversity in the Beatles body of work—but for my money, the Stones are my “British Invasion”.

They definitely evolved into a rock band. Doesn't matter to me as I like all their stuff but I can listen to just about anything as long as it doesn't suck.

The Beatles might not be your thing (I like them fine but don't love them) but to call them overrated seems a bit silly. Honestly, to call anything music-related overrated is silly and done too often now. They've sold hundreds of millions of albums and their catalog is still relevant today, sixty years later. There are teens today who have gotten into record collecting who now enjoy them, so their music has been passed down generations and it'll be listened to sixty years from now. They and their music did something right.

Early pop, later rock btw.

I feel that way about Dylan. I don't like his music, but clearly he's a pioneer and hugely influential. So I can respect him and appreciate his contributions without liking his music.

It is certainly true that The Beatles put on a bad show during the height of their popularity, through no fault of their own. They invented stadium rock. They relied on the venues to provide the sound systems; they toured only with their three amps, instruments and drums. The stadiums used rinky-dink sound systems with little speaker columns arrayed along the first-base and third-base lines. So The Beatles performed from a stage over second base with their amps cranked up, and with no stage monitors. They could hear only their amps behind them and constant screaming of fans in front of them. At Crosley Field, the management didn't even plan for rain. Fortunately, The Beatles called off their portion of the concert before been electrocuted and played the next day in the early afternoon with the rain gone -- but now a tarp cover unnecessarily in place.

I think they were over-rated too.

And there are over-rated bands. The biggest is Aerosmith, whose EVERY freakin song is like 3 lines and then repeat the same phrase 15 times!!! And they did it with the worst screechy voice. I admit a few of their songs are catchy, but damn....

I never really liked Aerosmith. I play an online song contest and Aerosmith is a subject once in a while. Apparently, I am a guru at identifying their songs. I will identify ten of their songs in a row in less than 2 seconds each. I don't get it.
