For the first time Cal was less than adamant about Skal getting eligibility, when asked about it by Katz at Media Day. Could be he's just sick of being asked about it. He did say at this time last season 5 of our players were still not cleared. I'm still optimistic, but starting to prepare myself in case they screw us again.

I read the quote on KSR, but I'm honestly still not that worried. I don't even know why, but I'm comfortable with saying I think he'll be playing all the games this season. If some dirt was know, we would've heard some rumblings about it from someone. Instead it's been pretty quite on all fronts.

In this case, Dakari leaving will definitely hurt. Would blow to not have Skal against Duke but then again, it wouldn't shock me with the NCAA favorable image of Duke.

We went through this with Noel. We thought the NCAA would hold him out until after the Duke game. Didn't happen then, and shouldn't happen now.

There may be more to this than what's going on, but I just don't see enough evidence to declare him ineligible. Not sure why he should suffer if his guardian asked for money and he didn't see a benefit from it.

If there is proof money changed hands, then he should be ineligible (at least for some games). If not, then he should be eligible. If the NCAA finds him ineligible because of rumors, then that is preposterous.

I'm not reading too much into the "we'll see" at this point. Immediately before that he said tht they feel good about it. Maybe he just chose different words, maybe it means something. However, I don't think this choice of words, when you read the entire statement, changes anything.

I have seen nothing that would even suggest that this is anything other than wild rumors. Skal will play. relax. This has about as much legs as Anthony Davis's $200,000 rumor rmongering, from other butthurt programs.

There is no dirt. Just a butt hurt Memphis guy making false accusations.

I still think we're FF material even without Skal, just not by a comfortable margin. Hopefully he'll be cleared soon and everything should be fine. If not, we'll just have to grind it out in the meantime like we did back in 2010-11 season with Josh Harrellson. I have faith that Lee and Humphries can step it up big if it comes down to that.

If there was more to this situation then we would have heard from the many experts approx. how much $$$ Labissiere and camp received and there would be articles on this everywhere. The New York Times wrote article saying Noel received money there was amounts thrown out there and many articles on the subject. The same with Kanter with all the articles and Amouts of money that he & his family received while playing professional in Turkey. ESPN had an article in August 2010 that said that Kanter was paid to play and received over $100,000 in cash and Benefits. The GM for Fenerbahce Ulker handed over all banking and housing to the NCAA and this was reported by the good ole New York Times. Both Karakas and club executive Aydin Ors also told the New York Times they were unhappy with the way Kanter left the team because of their investment in the prospect. This was the big reason alot of people felt Kanter was screwed because of GM and Execs were Upset with Kanter for leaving Fenerbahce Ulker.

I thought this very thing until I talked to my Memphis source a week ago. There may be a little dirt concerning George; did He receive any cash? Don't know that you can say for sure; but my guy seems to think that it all depends on who is being asked and if you consider George as the same entity as George's Foundation.

Didn't they say in BBM that it's moving like there will be no problem...

Seems like media didn't make much of a deal recently either.

Why even take the chance on players like this? I could understand if you're a coach that can't land anyone you want for the most part, this one is on Cal if he can't play, just like Kanter the red flags were already there. Spare me all the "you always take a player like Skal regardless" crap, that would fly if Tubby were still here or if this was Cincinnati or somewhere else...I think Cal having doubts about Skal is the only reason he added Humphries....I thought that immediately. You blue tinted glasses fans can choose to believe Cals confident talk all u want but there is no way in hell he isn't highly concerned and has been high concerned about Skal's eligibility from the get go!

I read Cal's comment and he said pretty much the same thing he had been saying about 5 players still needing to be cleared at this time last year and just wrapped up his comment by saying we will see.
Another way of saying we are waiting to find out. I didn't hear anything that sounded like he was less confident or concern that he wouldn't become eligible.

Because if he is cleared he is a top 3 player in the country. Risk vs Reward.

nothing to worry about guys. why do i know that...because i was ripped to shreds last week when i suggested it was possible he would miss games. it was made clear by several posters we knew all the information there was to know since we havent heard anything else to this point so he wouldnt miss a second of time.

so nothing to worry about...right....right?

Everybody should fully expect the NCAA to screw over Skal and Cal/UK on this deal and prepare themselves for the news. IMO.

I bet you might be in the minority of one in your opinion.

I just don't trust the NCAA at all, and that is trained/learned

I am assuming he's Kanter (result, not same story) until anything happens otherwise

Thank goodness we've got UL standing behind their man down the road while he runs a whorehouse in the dorms to keep us distracted

I'm not sure that's how he has been any different than he's been the whole time. Cal has never said "he'll definitely play" or anything definitive. He's has simply maintained confidence throughout the process. KSR skewed the comment.

Cal said the coaches felt confident, and that Skal felt confident, and that this is standard procedure for elite recruits. The "we'll see" was the fringe part of the conversation, and stated at the very end. I saw nothing different than his three previous comments on Skal. The only difference was KSR's interpretation of the "we'll see" and the almost complete ignoring of the rest of the comments from Cal.

Not sure that he would be ineligible even if money did change hands, as long as it was this "guardian" and Skal did not see any of it. NCAA set a precedent with Cam Newton, and I see no difference in this scenario.

There is no precedent with the NCAA. That said, I think Skal could miss a few games, but it has nothing to do with the mythical "we'll see" that has taken on a life of it's own.

I don't even agree with this. I don't think he should be ineligible for 1 second because of something a crooked handler might have done.

1. This is terrible.

2. When did Tubby ever get a player like Skal?

The NCAA will do whatever they want, but bylaws have been revised after then Cam Newton thing. According to bylaws the guardian only has to ask for money, then he immediately becomes an agent. Now, even if he did ask for money, no telling how the NCAA will handle it.

So what. If you believe every rumor about a 5 star recruit Cal would never recruit any of them. Look at the rumors about Anthony Davis receiving $200,000 from UK to sign. Thank goodness Cal didn't listen to people like you. Otherwise the 2012 National Championship banner would not be hanging in Rupp Arena. Disgruntled coaches and fans can start all kind of rumors in order to try to keep a recruit from going to a particular school. I think Cal has done a great job in recruiting and I trust in him to do what is best.

You were "ripped to shreds"? No, seversl of us simply disagreed with you Boston. Big difference . all I said was given what we know now there is no grounds for him to sit one second so there's no reason to come out and say he might have to sit some games. If you think he has to sit games than you evidently have information we don't have.
But nobody ripped you.

The way I understand it is if the guardian even asked for money Skal would be disqualified because at that point the Guardian would be classified as an agent. If the guardian actually took money we might as well forget about Skal stepping on the coutmrt in an official game for UK this season and that's sad to think about.

so again....what information do you have?

Here is the full quote.

The thing with this, Andy, there are probably 50-60 kids that went through this. There are probably 15 still going through it. Last year, at this time, five of our kids hadn’t been cleared yet. So, we’re all feeling good, he’s feeling good, and we’re going to play that first game and we’ll see.”
