We probably end up playing Thursday in SEC Tournament

What does all that history have to do with anything!? History is something to be proud of , but you can't live in what was or what ifs , you must live in what IS! It's a disgrace to be paying a coach what we are and he cares nothing about winning championships only about being a social justice warrior.
lol wut?! I think you took my post out of context. We are the unquestioned premier basketball program in the SEC and always have been. If Cal can’t live up to that, he needs to go. In short, I agree wholeheartedly.

IMHO we have the toughest schedule of the contenders as we have UT and AUB on the road and Bama at home. Still, I don't think we go 4-4 the rest of the way.

The problem is OUR HC!!!! The SEC championship no longer runs thru Lexington because of the used car salesman that is our HC. Maybe I should apologize to the used care salesman in our midst for comparing them to him!

Yeah thus making this extremely hard to crack into the top 4 here.

It's most likely we end up 5th IMO.
Have Aub, UT, LSU and Msst on the road. Wouldn't be at all shocked with 1-3 there. Home games of Gonzaga,OM, Ala, Arkansas and Vandy. Gonzaga will be a battle and OM and Bama could give us two more conference losses. So that's a possible 2-2 conference finish at home. So that's a possible 3-5 closing out the conference which puts us at 9-9. Not an easy road. Best talent in the country, right?

Actually just thinking about UK as a whole

Humans
Pre-season polls: AP 16th Coaches 16th
Current polls: AP 17th Coaches 15th

Media picks us to finish 4th in the SEC.....currently 5th.

Computer
Kenpom pre season: 18th..........currently 24th. Conversely the entire season we've never been higher than 14th and never lower than 27th.

The predictions for us this season has really been spot on so far.
But the media hates us, right? :)

Turns out they were basically correct, despite this "monster" class we had coming in.

It’s certainly a possibility right now, but a lot can happen between now and the end of league play.
Yeah, hell, you’re right. We could be a 6-7 seed come tourney time. But at least we beat Vanderbilt and Edwards had 1 good game

We need bama to lose a lot. If we go 12 and 6 the only team we would have tie breaker on is bama. I assume losses at auburn and tn.

We won't win the tourney anyways with cal coaching so a 5 seed and a sure win and then beat 4 seed and make it to Saturday and see what happens. Not impossible.

Yeah 9-9 or 10-8 really seems the most reasonable prediction.

I think we don't necessarily have the best talent in the country. We think we do but I'm not so sure lol. Offensively this team has a ton of weapons but we really do not seem to have just one defensive stopper on this team.

Unforunately.

Actually South Carolina is going to come back down to earth.

Right now projected standings per KP
Auburn 14-4
UT 14-4
Alabama 14-4
South Carolina 12-6
UK 10-8
Florida 10-8
Texas AM 10-8
Miss 9-9
Miss St 9-9
LSU 8-10

If anyone is coming back down to us it's South Carolina
Don’t understand this, for AU to finish with only 4 losses they have to win 3 of @UF (haven’t won there in years) @UT, @UGA, vs. UK and vs USCe. Also Bama has to win 3 of @OM, @UK, @UF, @LSU and vs. UT.

This is assuming they win the other games on their schedule. Hard for me to find 3 wins for either team among those games.

Yep. There's no doubt that UK has slipped a bit recently under Cal but this conference has gotten so much better and its going to be tougher to dominate year in year out now.

There's just too many teams that weren't good in the past, become really good teams.

While I agree with you in that the SEC is significantly better now than it was when Cal got here, I still call BS on the notion of parity as the reason we have slipped.

Auburn, Bama, and Tennessee have dominated the league the last few seasons, and I think each of those teams have won the league at least once finishing with only 2 conference losses.

If Bama, Auburn, and Tenn can do that, we should be doing it, especially with our plethora of NBA talent.

It's likely that not all those teams will finish 14-4.

FWIW if I look at the Auburn page, I see they are favored in every game except @ UT. However that would mean 15-3 but since the other games have close lines I guess they are assuming they drop another one they are favored in (makes sense). The system doesn't like South Carolina. Auburn is projected to win that game by double digits. The game vs UK is also home so it's likely they win that one. @UF will be interesting but currently they are given a 5 point favorite there.

Bama is currently the favorite in all remaining games but still projected to drop two of those. Thing going for Bama is they have UT, Florida and Texas AM at home. That helps. @UK and @UF will be tough for them but maybe that's their two losses right there and they win the rest.

The issue isn't so much them having 4 total losses, but 6 is what we would need to pass any of the 3 top teams while we would also have to win our game against them.

I think we can still play for a 3 or 4 seed. Heck, there's still a lot of game left to be played. If ANY of the teams ahead of us get the injury bug like we got it, they could drop a lot of games.

Ole Miss at Home - Likely a win
UK at Auburn - Lets say a loss.
UK at LSU - tossup but winnable
Bama at UK - Im favoring UK slightly as its later in the season when we trend better
UK at Miss St - Toss up
Arky at UK - Win
Vandy at UK - Win
UK at Tenn - Loss (but last game of the year when we play our best basketball, I'll want to revisit my prediction as it gets closer).

To preface before anyone losses their shit on me.. we have to play better defense. Not be world beaters, but we need to get our metrics up into the 50's 60s. But if we do that, 2.. maybe 3 more losses. I'm really only concerned about @Auburn and @Tenn and maybe the usual road screw job we will get on a 3rd road game. But we only have 4 road games left.. and two of them are to very middle of the pack teams.

On the other hand, if we don't do that.. 5 or 6 more loses.

That's actually not true. Only Bama has won the league with 2 losses and to their credit have done it twice.

Auburn had 3 in 2022 and only won because of easier schedule due to imbalanced schedule and tyty getting hurt when UK played them.

Tn has won no regular season titles since 2018 and had 5 losses.

The SEC has gotten tougher for sure but also so many teams in the conference creates an imbalanced schedule and from a fairness perspective, I hate that. Going to be worse by adding 2 more teams next year.

Trouble is, this is not your Grandaddy's SEC. The ACC this year is more like UK had in the SEC for many years. Duke and unc are now enjoying the weak ACC and unfortunately we're fighting through a tough SEC. It will all come out in the post-season.
I don’t buy this theory people try to throw out there. Vandy, Mizzou, and Arkansas have the worst teams I’ve seen in the SEC.

Cal has lowered UK below everyone else.
Florida was winning championships with Donovan and Arkansas won one in the 90’s.

When a SEC team wins a NC get back to me. The SEC only has 2 FF’s since 2015.

When we have maybe one team standing after the first weekend of the NCAAT this season you wlll see.

Bad teams can beat up on one another all year. It doesn’t make our conference better.

As I was told by yet another social media account today “Shit happens. Give Cal time to figure it out”.

Some of these new college aged fans just don’t get it.

That’s always the problem. In conference SEC team look and play like monsters. Out of conference we turn into “Pwease don’t hurt us”.

I get giving time, but sometimes you just got to see trends. We basically start every year with hype, lose some ooc games and it turns to wait until sec play. Get some more loses, then it’s wait until March. Lose in March and then it’s oh well, look who’s coming in next year.

It’s Feb. we have very little time left is what I hate about that argument. Other team are starting to click and fire on all cylinders. Meanwhile we’re still going “Who’s supposed to be starting?” And I get with as much talent as we have that might change a bit from game to game. But it seems we’re just still searching for an identity 2/3 into the season.

My goofy butt bet on us to win the SEC back in December. I thought Cal can’t mess this up. We were better in December than now!

Do 90% of all sports teams have the #1 recruiting class every year and are they going to get 7 players drafted with a 16-6 record this year?
The #1 recruiting class has gotten us very little. Some of the players we get that are ranked high, turn out to be duds in college, only to turn out to be good in the NBA. Now what do you suppose the problem could be? And as far as the 7 players drafted is concerned, I could care less about the NBA!!! I want the University of Kentucky to WIN!!! And don't give me the argument that if recruits see how many UK players get to the NBA so they'll want to come here to play under Cal, that just goes back to the rankings being of no use because of the chance of duds. We've had more than our fair share of highly ranked recruits that are underwhelming.
