Make me feel better about Tuesday night!!

Wish we had Cal. He would know how to beat Duke. (Oh wait)
Sadly, the only UK coach with a winning record versus Duke is Rupp. We have TWO wins over Duke in 45 years. Ugh. 2-9 since Joe B won the title over them (Tubby in 1998 and Cal in 2015)

To me, we matchup with them pretty well. Kneuppel ( pronounced (Nipple-) is guy who can hurt us. That kid is a very good shooter and I think is 6-7. Flagg ia good as well but he will be playing against the best defensive team he has faced.
Their 5 is 7-2 so we will have to get good position to rebound against them.
We can't get out rebounded by 10 or we will be in trouble. Our 5's can pass and run. Theirs seem to be quite a bit slower.
The other thing is we can shoot and pass the ball as well if not better than them.
We have seasoned guys who won't get flustered easily.

If the zebras let 'em play, we are in great position to win this game IMO.

Flagg hasnt exactly dominated mid majors so far, 15ppg on 44% shooting, Carr is 11ppg on only 5 fg attempts a game.

Knueppel has been on fire , 18 ppg , over 50% from 3...... well Brea has been even better ..

Maluach and Williams are doing about the same, both 70% fg... the difference is Williams' passing.

Proctor is a good 3pt shooter but mostly takes 3's... Robinson is also a good 3pt shooter but takes it inside a little more so far this season.

Foster, James, Brown Gillis vs Butler, Kriisa, Oweh , Almonor and Garrison. I think our guys can hold their own vs theirs

I really think its shaping up to be is Duke hitting their 3's and is Flagg shooting a ton of FT's vs is UK hitting their 3's and are our starters forcing turnovers

I think it will be a close game, a good test for both teams. It’s too early to write the loser off.

I think it will be how the game is called. Don't know who the ref's will be ? JUST WIN UK !

There is a lot more to winning basketball games than individual matchups.

Exactly. Who tf saw WVU taking down the Wall/Cousins team. Before that game, I couldn't name ONE player on Huggys team. Hell, even now I can only name Mazula. Experience and a great game plan can neutralize the best of individually talented players. Duke is no doubt just as worried about how they're going to guard our offense and score against the 3 headed defensive dragon of Butler/Oweh/Williams.

You are exactly right about them wondering how to stop us. Also, they have to deal with the weight of the expectation that they are supposed to win.

the only reason I’m worrying is because I saw how Louisville beat up on inferior teams in the preseason and first couple games of regular season just like we did and we know what happened to them and how they looked when they played a high caliber team. And some might argue Tennessee isn’t even close to the tenn of the past few years also. I’m hoping that even tho us/Louisville both beat inferior teams the same way that our talent/style of play is still way above Louisville. But we shall see

You're worried because you are comparing us to Louisville? What??

I didn’t watch any of Louisville games before the Tennessee game, I just saw the scores. And they were big margins. Kinda like our margins have been

I personally "feel better" each and every game this season.
Still can't QUITE put my finger on the reason .... "Why"

Just dumb and naive, I guess. Ignorance is truly bliss.

This is purely a game where we play with house money. I always liked playing with house money. Beggars can't be choosers !

1. The law of averages says we are due a win in this series.
2. We always seem to meet them early with mostly freshman, they are always loaded with veterans and freshman, so it's easier to mesh when you have a veteran presence.
3. Coach Krybaby doesn't coach there anymore.
4. We still lead the series.
5. Cal is not coaching.
6. We are still the winningest college basketball program in the country.
7. We have more NCAA championships than Duke.
8. We have more all Americans than Duke.
9. I could go on, but this is enough for now.

Ahh the memories ....

I was a young whippersnapper, a mere boy, going with my dad and family to that game in Bloomington. I remember Coach Knight slapping Coach Hall on the head, and as I recall, it was either one of the players, or assistants, or ... well .. it was someone that they held back because it was all mayhem after that went down and we had lost by twenty .... FOUR. I never accepted what my dad told me too, rest his Big Blue soul, in that moment, but that's another story, and why I will always HATE INDIANA.

It made it all the sweeter when we took out the Hoosiers hearts in March that year. Especially cutting, listening to Cawood call the aftermath of that one on the radio.... I think he said "well, Coach Knight is walking back to locker room and isn't shaking hands with Coach Hall .... and frankly, we don't give a damn !" ( or something like that!)

hahahaha !

I love the direction and new life of our program. I'm not bowing down or kneeling to dUKe and the phenom or any other team this year. We are Kentucky. These guys get that.

I remember another team that didn't have all the "talent" other teams had. It was 1992, and Duke had won the title that previous year..... We didn't back down to them when we met them in the NCAA tournament. That team played with, and made up for so much.... WITH HEART.

It was a pretty good game. I'm sure some here will remember it.

This year's team is going to have a lot of people here looking at the mirror at seasons end, happily stating to themselves that they underrated our team, our coach, and everything about the University of Kentucky ..... when it comes to basketball !!

Just a hunch ! I say, NOW .... Truly enjoy the journey !

Go Big Blue !
The dude that hat to be restrained was an assistant (Dicky Parsons if memory serves) coach who was a former FBI or Secret Service agent who had some level of martial arts. Ol' Bob was lucky he didn't take an ass whippin' on national t.v.

Of course, this being strictly from memory, I'm subject to being off a bit in my recollection. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong

DICKY PARSONS ! yes ! It had to be?! I was so young. One of my earliest memories in life, period. HAHA !

Many, MANY thanks for that recollection ! Great catch !

My family all hails from Kentucky ... and southern Indiana. Dad's family was Hoosier red, except for my father and brother, Kentucky alum. So we were the red herrings of the family.

But yes, that was a near scrum ! Made it a lifelong pleasure to be able to look back on how that season ended for the Hoosiers. I go there early and often, if I need to, for any true Hoosier fan. They still can't accept that undefeated team going down in the regional finals to us.

That one stands out for all time!

Would love to see this. I can't stand IU or Robert Knight

We have matchup problems all over the court. The only matchup I think we have an edge in is at the 5 spot. So how do we win? I wanna beat them so bad but having a hard time making myself believe we can actually do it unless we go something like 20-40 from 3 and realistically that’s just not gonna happen
I like our chances with a starting 5 of veterans against 3 freshmen, a sophomore, and a junior...

We have four Defenders that are poor on straight line drives they are Robinson and Brea and Chandler and Kriisa. But those four are capable of outscoring their Defenders. Many people are picking UK to win and almost everyone is picking for UK to beat the spread. I'm expecting a close game possibly overtime with the UK pulling it out

I always thought Kerr was bad on guarding the ball. Based of his previous years and the first exhibition he played but the last 2 games he’s really looked good at guarding the ball imo.

That's a pretty good prediction, in my opinion. I think UK's offense will be tough for Duke to defend and UK will likely grab an early lead. If our threes are falling, I think we could win by 8-10 points. If our threes aren't falling, we could lose by a similar margin. If we shoot about our average, it goes to the wire and it's anybody's game.

I'm liking the experience this UK team has with this being an early season game. Under Calipari, we almost always had a disadvantage in early season games because of our lack of experience. It's nice having some veterans out there. I'm also liking the defensive attitude of this group- which is related to their experience. That defense could make a huge difference in this game as well, giving the Cats some margin for error. One thing is certain, we're gonna know a whole lot more about the potential of this team after this game.

Shouldn't this apply to Duke, even to a higher degree than it applies to us?

Duke actually had a little bit of trouble with Maine before putting them away, where as UK had no problems with their opponent. And if anything, I think our experience will have us making fewer mistakes. This is a Duke team that's not only new to each other (like UK), but also very young too. We're already seeing Flagg apparently not being well conditioned. If he has cramps this game, and is therefore limited.. I would be shocked if they still pull out the win, and certainly not some large margin of victory either.

Here’s my 2. Duke won’t learn to defend the type of actions Kentucky runs for another 2 months if they do at all. This Kentucky team runs offense right now like it’s mid season. Most freshman haven’t even worked on anything above simple defenses yet. Match ups don’t matter as much in popes system because there’s so much movement. Welcome to zoom actions instead of that stagnate offense cal runs. If you face guard the shooters they back door. If you an at sit the lane it’s gonna be raining 3 because the boys can shoot as well. . . My assumption is they plan to run Kentucky off the 3 line so be prepared for lay ups and fouls all night. They will prolly be physical and hope the refs swallow the whistles. Kentucky has to stop the ball early and pressure guards and we have the players to do that in oweh and butler. Kentucky either makes shots or they don’t. That’s how they lose or win. Flagg will get a bunch of points no matter what. Hes a 6’10 shooter with handles like a guard. Dudes gonna be insane at the next level and he’s prolly mostly already there mentally. Expect hero ball if Duke gets down early. The only other variable is Kentucky mostly outside of Lamont butler, haven’t played on bigger stages. nerves could factor early. All I know is I’m stoked to see this offense against a better defense. Should be a good indicator how the SEC season is gonna look.

People are talking about Kentucky being nervous, Amari William, Lamont Butler, Krissa, Oweh, Carr and Brea don't seem like the nervous type. I think if we shoot the ball like we have the first two games, we will win the game. They haven't played anybody either, especially a team of juniors and seniors that has 4 shooters on the floor most of the time. I'm optimistic about the game, we do have to shoot the ball well to win the game.

I think the key to getting a W is a great start. Duke is young and if we can get out on them early it may affect thier confidence.
