We are better than some of you guys seems to think we are. Two of the three most key games are at home. I'll be in Athens, Georgia on November 7th and it may very well be for the a trip to Atlanta.

Our D is not good enough. I think we can get to a bowl game though. I do they we will be competitive in all our games except the GA game.

If we beat Vandy, Florida, Auburn, Missouri and UT I'd say we have an excellent chance of being 1 or 2 in the east. I'd like to see our team progress more. All those teams we can play with and beat if we show up and don't look past anybody. Georgia is even beatable but will be tough.

If our O can become consistent like it plays in the 2 first halves and our D get all the players back and start playing a little better then we are goin to be a very good team.
Think Georgia plays at Bama??? So that might be a loss right their.

We'll the Cats are 1-0 in the SEC. That's a start. Let's just take it a game at a time for now though. Next up time to knock those pesky Gator's off our backs. They've been riding them way too long! That streak should have ended last year. Instead the Cat's get to finally do it at home. Win that one, and I think we will, and the teams with UK on their schedule might start looking at those games a bit different. If we could get to the Auburn game unbeaten that shapes up as a gigantic game, and at least so far they don't look invincible.

This kind of talk happened last year when we were 5-0. Look what happened. People need to realize we aren't there yet. Great to be optimistic to, but we have to win more games against SEC before anyone starts this kind of talk. Certainly fun to think but it's way way too early.

I don't think UK is good enough to knock off UGA on the road nor UT at home...I think those two will seperate themselves and be a two way fight for the east. Also, UK could win the rest of SEC slate outside of UGA/UT...but reality indicates they'll drop a few of those and hopefuly this year win a few to get to a bowl game.

I know we need to grind a little to rest the D, but we need to do it and still keep our QB and playmakers in rythm. We practically Quit throwing in the 3rd quarter. great win though .I'm sure the staff is still tweaking.

We are not gonna go from 6th place to first in one season. That doesn't happen. But we could finish in the top half of the division.

I'm still not sold that we beat UF. They have a great defense and I think they are gonna be ready for us. People having been calling for their upset since early this year.

I actually think we get Missouri. Should be able to get Vandy.

Georgia & Auburn are probably out of the picture.

Miss St definitely looks beatable.

Tennessee is probably too far ahead of us right now.

I'm just looking at Florida right now. One game at a time. They look very athletic, as usual, and their two qb system could give us fits.

We are improving for sure. But let's do something we haven't done in nearly 3 decades before we start up the sec east convo (beat florida). I think that's doable.

I think people need to be realistic, but also stop having a defeatist attitude. We played some pretty good teams on the road the last half of last season.

Looking at our schedule, I would call every game winnable. I'd say it's very, very unlikely that we beat uga in athens, but other than that, there's no reason we can't go into every game confident we can win.

That being said, we've got a very important game this weekend that kind of hinges the entire discussion.

At this point the only game in league play that would be a huge upset if we win is at Georgia, and the only game that would be a huge letdown if we lose is Vandy. But other than maybe Missouri at home we will probably be an underdog in every other non Vandy game. Florida because it is Florida, Tennessee because they stomped us last year, and at Miss St are going to be very difficult games to win. Until Auburn finds a QB that will be a much more winnable game than those 3. Go 4-4 or 5-3 in league play this year then we can start talking about how the East is winnable next year.

Wild, crazy speculations... that's o.k., this a.m.... we can enjoy the moment...

Realistically, too many weak areas in key spots that will be exploited by better teams...

Go CATS!

I agree with this. We haven't had a winning record in the SEC in 38 years. I think Stoops will break that streak, but I think we're a year away. This year is a major stepping stone and if we can get to 3-5/4-4 in conference and win our 4 OOC games, that would be great step up from where we were 2 years ago. It's a marathon, not a sprint....enjoy the ride!

I am extremely happy with a road win in the SEC. I really don't know what kind of team we have. I heard, don't know if it is true or not, that we have 19 freshmen/redshirts in the two deep. I have a hard time believing that if almost half of our players are that young, they will be able to hang with the good teams with older, usually higher ranked, players.

However it ends up, I'm a huge CATS fan and very much enjoy the SEC wins. A win over Florida would put us in a position that we haven been in, in a while.

The crazies are back on the other side and it didn't take long. You can revel in the win but don't go overboard. Nearly blew a huge lead against a down SC team. Ga and UT are in a different class and next week UK takes on a team they haven't beaten in nearly 30 years.

I still like Georgia in the SEC East, but I agree this season is setting up great for Kentucky. It sure looks like we have a better football team than Florida or Missouri. Both struggled yesterday. Jacksonville State took Auburn to OT and almost beat them. All 3 of those opponents must come to Lexington, and we have a solid chance against all of them. We get Hatcher and Flannigan back. Lewis, Forrest, and Stamps are great players. We don't have the best defense in the league, but I see a lot of upside in our defense as the younger players get more reps. Georgia will be very tough in Athens. I would not bet on Kentucky pulling that game off, but it is not outside the realm of possibility. At this point, I honestly think our offensive line is the key to our season, and I am still not sold on them yet. If they perform well, we are as good as anyone.

I don't know who wins the East, before the season I felt like we had a very good chance to win it, I expected our qb play to be an improvement over last year, but I have been proven wrong. All anyone has to do is put 9 in the box, man up and play our WR tight and our qb will throw it away. Players are publically speaking out about it, offensive staff is too afraid to take a risk to be great, had rather sit in a conservative shell and be average. We are playing a 1970 offense, really frustrated with this to the point of not watching anymore, bout time for deer season. Our ceiling this year is 7 wins. We can't beat UT because we can't score with them, we will be lucky to score on Bama, SOS beats us every year it seems and I am afraid UF may have found their coach, I don't think we can score with UK if you can stop the run, AU is a tossup, their qb doesn't seem to know what color they wear. Bottom line is against us, forget about anything more than 15 yards deep, play tight man to the inside shoulder because we won't throw an out, just a short slant, keep 8 or 9 in the box no matter the down or distance. One more thing, we don't run anything outside the tackle, nothing, we ran every running play except a reverse through the A or B gaps. Its pee wee ball, except they throw more.

So East is wide open, I just as soon us not win it so we won't get embarassed in the SEC championship game.

I respectfully disagree. I still think the East runs through Athens. Bama is probably a loss but besides that game, the dawgs will be a very tough out.

The problem is we we'll not put 9 in the box no matter if it's obvious. While you guys may not have a QB to win a championship it's most like better than Perry Orth & I'm certain he'll see progression later in the season...

Our defense played prevent D last night especially in the 2nd half and it almost cost us... we were very lucky in some situations down the stretch but they came up huge in the red zone.. That's definitely an improvement.

The good news is that we should only get stronger when we bring back Hatcher/Flannigan which will hopefully be the next game?

You're too good of a fan to not watch, whether you are right or wrong!! I hope you're right though :)

If UK wins their next two then I will start to think that there is a chance UK can take the east. As of right now I say that a bowl game is definitely in the picture but I'm not going to talk championships yet.

I would trade our qb or Orth in a heartbeat, or about 115 other college qbs out there. Did you watch our game yesterday? Hell I would be excited to see Hutson Mason trot back on the field for us, he would at least stand in the pocket and get hit if protection broke down.

Stoops isn't stupid, when he sees 8 tapes of us and knows we aren't going to threaten the defense vertically at all. Vandy put 9 in the box within 5 yards of the line and we still ran A and B gaps with a few 5 yard routes thrown in. We were running into what amounted to a 5-4 front and still wouldn't even attempt a deep pass. The one pass we threw over 10 yard deep hit a DB in the navel and he dropped it, but he was wide open by about 5 yards standing in the endzone, he wasn't even covering our receiver.

I agree with this. I watched Auburn yesterday. They are not even that good, much less great. I was impressed with UT, but we catch them at home the weak after they play Bama. Georgia struggled with Candy (Candy was on the 10 yard line with a chance to cut the UGA lead to 3 with 4 mins in the game and threw an INT in the end zone). There isn't a team on our schedule that we can't beat, but there are also very few teams on our schedule (just Charlotte and EKU) that we can take for granted.

I've always thought we were beating Missouri this year. Yes, Georgia should beat us, but how do you throw Auburn in there? Based on what exactly? Jax St. Must be some bad men.

Last week people were jumping off bridges...this week they are booking tickets to Atlanta. Wow.

I have no doubt we will get there, but I still think we have a ways to go.

BTW, Dawg, thanks for being the best "outsider" who posts here. I like your stuff a lot, and I have always respected the Bulldogs.

I think it's great the fans talk about success and dreams of championships. That is what this board is for. I just hope the players are thinking about one thing-Florida. To be honest, I was hoping UK could get a split of the Carolina/Florida games. Now I'm greedy and want both.

I agree. UK needs to take advantage of a somewhat unexpected SEC road win and win 1/2 against FL and Missouri coming up. Of course I'd like to just win all 3 of this stretch and be 3-0 in the SEC with 4 games in and 4-0 overall! That would be amazing, and on paper 6 wins would be beyond all but locked up with Charlotte, EKU and Vandy still on the schedule.

not that I am expecting the Cats to win the East but I did place a small wager at 17-1 before the season started that we would win it. You don't get 17-1 odds that you feel like is a value very often but I like the odds we got here.We have a chance imo.

It's hilarious, but you are right. We have a good contingent of Kentucky fans on this board who studiously follow recruiting classes, player development, and other strategic aspects of year over year program improvement. But most fans live and die with each game, without understanding steering currents around the program. Wins can lead to irrational jubilation. Losses can lead to other forms of insanity. It helps to understand the main forces at work.

UK was not 5-0 lol. It's important to get that out of the way right now. Doesn't hurt that UK went to arguably the toughest stadium in the SEC East to play in, and won. Doesn't hurt that we get Florida and Mizzou at home, and play @ Vandy (virtual home game). The jury is still out on Auburn but UK can put points up on that defense, without a doubt. Jeremy Johnson and Auburn hasn't shown me anything to make me believe that we can't beat them, especially at home.
Mississippi State will be tough, but is possible. Tennessee is possible. They've shown that they can't close out against top 25 teams at home, and at least we get them at home.
A lot to be optimistic about. Will be rooting hard for South Carolina against Georgia.

I'm hesitantly with you. With that said, I'd like the see how we stand against Florida and Missouri. You'd have to agree, we've yet to put together two good halves in a game. something we will need the do game in and game out to take the East.
