Not from HS but from portal. Not sure if this is better.

I think Pope and staff needs to clean house . Not all 3 freshman are Kentucky caliber. Even if you develop them they will not grow any longer or be more athletic.

I was hoping , Pope will say next year is reconstructing year and buy himself some time. And this year , get some players that are long , athletic with some skills that we can develop and have 2-3 years of eligibility left.

If we go again for players with one year of eligibility left to chase again number 9, we will be in the same situation next year.

Be patient this coming year, set realistic goals and recruiting targets and build a great team in 2-3 years from now.

Otherwise, I am not sold in the current approach: Perry, Noah. Chandler, Garrison and the 3 incoming freshman cannot start next year. That’s 7 spot on the roaster. Unless he goes 15 deep, Pope will not only hinder next year success but also the years to come.

He should be able by now to evaluate players and those who are not Kentucky caliber , just say thank you and let them go.

Duke was not afraid last year to have an honest assessment and conversation with the PG that played in a final four for K, Roach because they wanted to upgrade. They were not wrong on doing so if you have watched the Duke Vs Baylor game.

I know most of BBN wants immediate gratification and Pope declared that will chase titles from year one but that’s just totally unrealistic.

Jasper could start, he is on tyty and cason level in eye test

Seems many users see jasper as average player..

Well, Duke is hand picking whoever they want with a nearly unprecedented NIL offering and whatever else they were offering guys like Zion, on top of that. You're not going to be able to compete with that.

Yes, so you will never get the best from portal or hs. So our niche should be get players that are long , athletic with some skills, that you can develop over 2-3 years.

You were more complimentary of Tennessee last night in your thread where you kissed up to them than you are of Kentucky's own players.

Weird stuff.

OP better to be a Duke fan
Lol now you are insulting me.

How many players do you know that Pope let go from BYU?

Kentucky does not have Duke resources. Pope is not Calipari as far as recruiting… his strength are being a nice human being, positive coaching, good understanding of the basketball metrics.

His staff should help him with player development and defensive schemes and recruiting .

Trying to chase again one and done in portal is going to be a joke when you don’t have the money like Duke, Bama, Or other SEC schools.

How much NIL do they have? Historically, you have made comments about how Kentucky might struggle in the modern age of NIL or how we might struggle to compete with the metropolitan programs, and yet we've heard that Pope has more than enough for this cycle. Are we really certain that Kentucky is at that grade of a disadvantage when it comes to competing with Duke's NIL? If so, where's the evidence?

When it comes to Duke, are we still going by the assumption that they're Nike's favorite son and that all the other Nike schools are just going to sit there and allow the favoritism?

I am very realistic. In order to get better you need to see where the weaknesses are and what’s realistic to improve with what resources we have.
Nah, your posts are just strange. You were sucking up to Tennessee last night right after the loss, and coming down on fans who didn't share your sentiment about moral behavior following a loss.

And now you're wanting to run off all of our role players?

Like I said, weird stuff.

Flagg NIL and contracts worth around 4.8 M more than UK spend on whole team last year.

AJ Dybantsa will make around 7m next year BYU.

I don’t think Kentucky competes in that market….

So let’s be realistic.

All it takes is one of their many multi-millionare alumni to throw in 250k at the drop of a hat. They have no football program to speak of and an extremely rich alumni base. They simply have more money they can float the basketball program with, to the point that there's speculation that some of their guys might not even go to the NBA, even though they should (although that remains to be seen).

And with Pope, that's just what we're HEARING. So far, it sure doesn't seem like we're getting the pick of recruits or transfers.. BUT, that can change this year now that he's established.

But yes, I believe we are a step behind Duke when it comes to NIL and the ability to pay players.

You don't "think" Kentucky competes in that market?

Based on? If Kentucky goes through this cycle without spending a fortune, I'll agree with you. Until then, I'll be waiting for the evidence.

??? Our first portal commit has three years of eligibility.

Buddy I am not sucking up to anything and anyone. Nothing wrong to show class in defeat and be realistic in what approach fits best our current coach and resources.

Based on not being to get any high profile players from HS or portal that Pope offered. Kentucky is not money school with deep pockets …. Our strength is in our fans and tradition…. We need to be patient and realistic. If you disagree it ‘s all good.

We all want the same thing: this program to succeed.

I believe in more realistic, measured approach that will require 2-3 years of patience.

I don’t think we will succeed in one and done regardless if it is from HS or portal how is fashionable now days.

There are 5 possible/likely returns that all played very valuable minutes. What are you even talking about one and dones? They're not good enough for UK? Buddy I don't know what you've been watching for the last 10 years but it wasn't Kentucky basketball. NBA full of superstar past players and we haven't sniffed a trophy since 15. These kids can grow which is exactly what you want but they aren't superstars with 4 years of eligibility that bleed blue so they aren't worthy to wear the jersey? Get out of here.

I'm just gonna go ahead and ignore. There's good to be found in different opinions but you are obviously just miserable and I don't agree with anything you've said. I really try to be understanding but you seem to hate this team. Also like Saul said you talk UT up nicely.

Okay , so if you don’t understand the other person has to be exterminated ?

How did UVA win a title? How about Villanova? or UConn multiple?

How did Auburn is so good this year?

Look at their model of success. What is based on….

We finally have a coach that can coach…

Let’s be patient and smart.

We are gonna be loaded next year with a combination of returning players, recruits and portal transfers. This thread is dumb.

When you inherit zero players you got to take whoever you can get to fill out a roster. You’re not going to get 10 multi-year freshmen year one and also expect to compete with that type of roster.

“In terms of the roster in the future, we have some really, really important pieces that we’re excited to have back next year, and kind of have a foundation of guys that know what we do, how we do it, what we do in the locker room, what we do at shootaround, what our daily cadence is like,” Pope said Monday night. “We have three incredibly talented rookies coming in so far — and we’ll see how that high school recruiting finishes up. Then we’ll be really, really aggressive in the portal at a couple of positions to bring in a couple superstars” Mark Pope.

I disagree that we have important pieces that are returning. It’s only one player that I am excited of returning: Oweh and one player that you can maybe develop in a back up Garrison. Rest are practice player on any championship Kentucky team of past.

Well that my point … we should not expect to compete in the next year or this past year. We need to rebuild with the right pieces.
