Watching UGA, I see why they would want Dane

The link you should had the QB already down, clearly a penalty and not the same circumstances.

Not the top photo. The middle photo of the OSU player hitting the TTECH QB. That's why I included the caption in the text of the post.

That may be how the rule is written, but it not called that way except on a QB in the pocket a passer and considered a defenseless player.

Except it is.

I don't know if defenseless player is written in the rulebook,

It is. Sums some of that up in the article. Defenseless player is one thing.
Crown of the helmet is another thing.
Launching is a other thing.
Forcible contact to head or neck area is another thing.

but the term is used ever explanation during reviews. One a QB pulls the ball down and starts to run, he loses that protection and is no longer defenseless unless he slides. Stockton was not going to slide, he was trying to score, had his head down and was not defenseless, no targeting because it didn't meet those criteria.

Except it met the others. He was in the grasp of the other defender. Was going down. Hitter wasn't going for the ball or trying to tackle. He was just delivering a hit with hos shoulder to deliver a hit and hit the runner's helmet (head). If you read the article, one of the criteria listed was met on this play. No arguing that.

Guess my phone is messed up, I only saw 1 Pic.

You and I just have a different understanding of what targeting is. This is how I see it. It's all about 2 things, defenseless player and crown of helmet. When a receiver is in the process of making a catch, he is defenseless and can be victim of targeting, but once that catch is complete and he becomes a runner and no longer can be a victim of targeting. RB are not defense unless catching a pass and same rules apply as a WR. QB are different, they cannot be hit in neck or head area unless they pull the ball down and become a RB, they can still slide for protection and then be targeted, but Stockton was a RB and didn't consider sliding. I thought tafgeting until the replay, Gunner had as much to do with the contact as the defender.

Sorry about Beck. Sounds like Tommy John surgery. It could be a minor, partial tear, but either way it sounds like he's done at UGA.
