Was Cal right about Perry and maybe Noah?

I've been pleasantly surprised by both. I wasn't expecting much, but they have done OK in their "forced to play" roles. I look forward to them playing for 4 years here, although I don't think they will be superstars. I think they will both be fan favorites and get some decent playing time for us.

I am not beating up on Perry and Noah has shown some overall skills. However, I will admit I am so disappointed in Perry. This is the historic leading scorer in Kentucky High School basketball history. Won the preseason 3 point contest. In fact, there were several experts (not people here) on Youtube and other media saying he was a real talent. He also seemed slightly better in offense that Reed which made it ever more exciting a prospect to see. I don't know if it is psychological or he just isn't aggressive or is simply not at the level expected but it is hard to debate he is no Reed Sheppard or outstanding compared with many other Freshman for other teams.

Noah I think has done a little better but is he better than other Freshman for other teams? You can't have players who are not better than their opponents and expect to win.

I know many here, perhaps including me, hope they will develop. But, in the world of college basketball in today's game you have to have players who impact if you want to win. Perry, Noah, and Chandler the highest rated of the 3) are certainly not striking fear or causing coaches to come up with a game plan to stop them.

We knew already that Cal would not have recruited either Kentucky player other than if forced to have Perry to sit on the bench. I am no Cal fan any longer but was he right in this one?
They are freshmen, and Cal always hated recruiting Kentucky players because the fans wanted them and Cal hated bowing to our fans.

Perry is not a Reed Shepherd type player. However, he could be a Chris Loften type player.
Chris Lofton was a 1st team All-American!!!!

I like Perry and think he can and will keep contributing and get better every year, I don't know if he will EVER get to Lofton's level. I hope you are right and I am wrong!!!

Lofton is certainly a better comparative than Sheppard. Another that comes to mind is Steve Alford ...at least for those of us old enough to remember.

Alford was strikingly similar to Perry. Same size, skill set, and athletic limitations. He had an outrageously successful college career (All American, National Champion, Olympic Gold, all time leading scorer, etc.) despite the fact that he was small, slow and couldn't jump. Whatever Alford was doing, I hope Perry can copy it.
He's not going to be anywhere near Steve.
I'd be happy if he was as good as Bryce.

Perry and Noah both a -3 on a night we win by 30.
I think Pope's comments about not shorting the rotation was a lot of coach speak.
He might not shorten the rotation but the hook will definitely be quicker when you're not performing as evidenced by Perry sitting for about 30 min straight tonight.

Yes and no.
They do not fit what UK was trying to be under Cal. They don't have the NBA allure so Cal didn't really care.
Now will they probably grow into respectable role players. Yeah
Will they be a first round pick? No and that's okay.

They're doing fine for real freshman, who were supposed to at best be role players and practice bodies this year with the chance to develop and grow into more why can't our fans see that.

I do not put any credence in Cal judging talent, Perry and Noah both has had good games and bad games but so have all the other players, experience will make them both solid players in the future.

Said last night, if i was on this coaching staff, I would target nothing more than improving Travis' lateral quickness THE ENTIRE SUMMER!

It would do wonders for his game if he improves in the slightest.

Cal has not been right about anything in about 10 plus years, he is arrogant, still runs the same antiquated offense, and trust me Cal doesn't improve players, every noticed how much better most of them are in the pro's than in college.

I think he was 2nd team AA, but still he was an AA.
It is really amazing how good Lofton was, given his lack of athleticism. He is probably the only UT player that I've not disliked. Their current PG is maybe the 2nd. Lofton was the college basketball equivalent of Tony Gwynn for the Padres or Kirby Pucket for the Twins.
