Not sure why people don't get this. Dillingham was taken out so he could get a breather. That was three minutes of non stop up and down the court with huge shot after huge shot. He was gassed.

I agree things haven't been ideal lately but Calipari appears to be embracing change on multiple levels. The stats show it.

Rob is young I think he could handle that . I didn’t see a guy that looked gassed. Maybe I’m wrong but I didn’t see what you’re seeing .

It’s almost like Cal did not want him to go for 40 and completely blow the game open. Billy Clyde and Jody Meeks kind of vibe.

In Cal’s defense, DJ did eventually make one shot.
DJ is a terrible 3 point shooter thus far but he has the credentials to be a star. Just have to let the season play out and see if he lives up to the hype.
I hate to say it, but Wagner will be the downfall of this team. We look fast and scary with Dillingham out there. We look controlled and smart with Shepherd. We look bogged down with Wagner. It's clear as day.
If I can stomach watching it again, I’m going to see how many possessions there were in which Wagner shot the ball without passing it once. Off the top of my head there were at least four. And I’m not talking about transition - I’m talking about half court sets.
It’s alarming to me how unathletic Wagner appears after watching all of Canada and the season so far. Definitely not a 1st round level athlete. And even more troubling his elite skill finish at the rim has completely deserted him at the college level.
Yeah he missed crucial shots at the rim. As others have pointed out, he will play well enough against all the cupcakes that he remains Cal’s lead guard. But him soaking up all of those minutes is going to be detrimental to the teams growth. Those developmental minutes would be better served going to Reed Shepherd and Rob Dillingham.
I hope Cal doesn't say the same thing. You play the guys who are hot or give you the best chance to win. On a personal level you hope guys live up to their hype, but on a coaching level hype shouldn't meany anything or be a measuring stick. He can't keep giving guys lots of minutes hoping the bulb comes on. Let them figure it out with a minute here or there.
At one point I think he was pouting. Something told me he could be a problem going forward if he's not getting the minutes he wants.
I do feel like it’s worth noting that Cal absolutely had his guys sagging off Harris and going under ball screens for Harris. The commentators pointed out Rob’s defensive lapses, but the Cats were leaving him open and daring him to shoot the whole game. It was THE GAMEPLAN.
I can't stand people actually thinking it doesn't matter who starts. This line of thinking is detrimental to success.
They probably don’t put stock in plus/minus either. Strange bunch.
Wagner is just not a good shooter, a lot of people made excuses for him in AAU and high school but it’s pretty clear it’s not gonna change during his one year in college. Dillingham and Reed are better than him right now clearly. There is no doubt this will be the downfall of the team because Cal will continue to play him big minutes, as people have said in many other threads Cal is not gonna change at the end of the day.
Another season of enduring Cal’s failures at such a basic level, while being called Bennies for talking about what is plain as day.
What’s really tricky about Dillingham, Reed and Wagner vs. the Wall/Bledsoe situation is playing time is extremely tight with Reeves needing big minutes and playing Edwards at the 3. There is no doubt this will be a Cindy theme for the season.
Agree 100%. Vastly over rated especially as a shooter. Wagner shooting 11% from three while Reed is at 55% and Dilly 44%. Overall Wagner shooting 30% while Dilly and Reed are both above 50%. Edwards is also struggling from 3 shooting only 18%.
This - paired with Reeves going 3-17 in another big game (see K-State NCAAT loss) - is why some were going to be ok if Reeves bolted.
I was okay with it. If you give those minutes up tonight to Shep Dilly, and Thiero - things might’ve gone differently.
Reed went 4/5. Dilly 6/12. Thiero 5/10. Wonder what happens if those guys collectively get 25 more shot attempts?
Reeves trying to get his, and prove that he can get drafted. The dude didn't want to come back to UK, never put out a statement or anything saying he was glad to be back. UK put one out when there was grumbling that he wasn't actually back on campus, I believe.

Don't waste your time arguing with these people. Most are complete morons. A few are trolls. Almost none are actual fans, by the strict definition. They are all convinced that Cal has to go, and will be replaced by absolutely any coach of our choosing. Never mind the fact that no coach worth having will follow a mistreated HOF coach who was fired while coaching a top 10 team. They are delusional children. Following their plan get you a Billy Gillispie. Their hate for Cal flows into everything that happens, especially lineups. Facts and stats mean nothing to them. Every time a player messes up it's because he did it the way Cal taught him to. Bad shooting nights are impossible, therefore Cal messed with their technique and caused it. I could go on and on, and have before. Nothing will matter. They are morons pretty much wraps it all up.
At least he is aggressive and shows energy and effort. Can't say that about the majority of the team's performance...
Sheppard looks scared to be out there half the time. Constantly passes up wide open shots, or in Tuesday's case, misses a wide open layup off a perfectly executed play call. Can't guard anyone to save his life and is constantly lost on defense.
Dillingham has had just as many head scratching performances. He is the definition of inconsistent. Hasn't DJ won player of the week multiple times as well?
