Wagner For The Tie - - Clank!

Didn't watch the game, but DJ taking over at point was the reason Arkansas was so much better in second half of the season, I'm okay with Cal living and dying with him in that moment.

It was SO worth getting only 4 hours of sleep to see Cal be Cal and fail his team again! Even more so, that it was DJ Wagner that he forced the failure on.

DJ taking over the point is different from DJ playing hero ball. Just because he has the ball in his hand doesn't mean he has to take the shot.

our former coach at a rival school, with tons of people ready to rip UK apart for "letting Cal go" if they do better than us this year. The question is why wouldnt all UK fans take pleasure in knowing Cal leaving was best for UK?

This, 1000x times this ^^^

Also, it shouldn't be this way 2-3 years from now, but it's also just the FIRST YEAR since he left, so the frustration is still fresh... especially considering they lost in the manner that exhibits EXACTLY what frustrated UK fans so much w/Cal.

Jonas Aidoo kept his Vol legacy too.

Gets tied up late which gives TTU the chance to cut it from 6 to 3 with a min left and then misses the front end of a 1 and 1 with under 30 secs.

I watched the last of the game.

DJ thinks he has a chance to win the game in regulation, plays hero ball.
DJ makes some circus shot at the rim to tie the game in overtime, which, IMO, only reinforces his hero ball mentality
DJ with the game on the line with the ball in his hand. No way he is passing that ball.

Maybe next year he'll grow into that role, but we've seen him do this for 2 years now, and Cal continues to put him that position.

I have to believe that any coach in an end game situation would have called a time out to make sure the right player takes the shot, but Cal continues to think that keeping the opposing team guessing is the right move, except there is no guessing, whoever is the "alpha" is taking the shot in a one on one. Sometimes it works if you have the right guy, and sometimes it doesn't.

There are some things Cal will never do - zone, inbound plays, free throw practice and call time outs at the end of the game. He has to have a team that will overcome all that to be winners.

Exactly. When DJ made the tough layup to tie the game at 83 I told my buddies "If TTU takes the lead here, Cal won't call a timeout. He'll let them go and DJ will force a bad shot."

With a dude 5'8" and 160 lbs guarding him!!!!

Did it in regulation AND OT. Crazy how Cal lets DJ decide the game when Davis played fantastic tonight.

Why would ANY Transfer Portal kid EVER want to play for Cal????!!!!!!
$$$$$

Bro why did he pull up? He was driving down hill and had the lane.
He wanted to be the hero. I literally laughed @ him all night bc he was acting like he was playing in the NBA Finals. And the commentators were slurping on him pretty hard! I would have rather had Skyy Clark.

He did have 30 points but 11-11 from the free throw line contributed greatly to that. To me 8-22 from the field isn't exactly fantastic.
30 points is 30 points.

And why wouldn’t you put the ball into the player’s hands that went 11-11 from the line on a DRIVE to the basket at the end of the game????

So you are OK with Wagner BRICKING 2 Jump Shots with the game on the line?????

Cal is a JOKE!!!!

I didn't say that. I just said taking 22 shots and 11 free throws to score 30 isn't "fantastic". Now Butler scoring 33 points on 10 shots and 12 free throws against U of L is fantastic. 😉

It has always been a head scratcher that John Calipari will have a team playing loose and build a lead...then take the air out of the ball early....and has famously stated he didn't coach free throws.

But welcome to it Hogs fans...this is pretty much what you can expect.
