Vaught: Could Jacob Hyde Be a UK FB?

if he's not gonna be in the 3 deep at dt this year then i say get him on the field in some way. the coaches have raved about his work ethic and you have to reward that in some way. that is one hell of lead blocker in the red zone and i'll bet the rb's love this idea.

Fridge Perry?
I am still upset with Ditka for pulling Walter Peyton out of the Super Bowl at the 1 yard line, denying Walter a TD in a Super Bowl, and putting Perry in for the score. No one who ever played in the NFL had any more class than Walter, and Perry while not a thug, wasn't as deserving of a score, especially after Peyton had ran it down the field the entire drive.

I have an autgraphed Payton card when he came to Detroit to play one yr. I was a kid all decked out in Lion gear and he was absolutely amazing. Both my dad and I became fans that day even though he was a rival.

I've mentioned this several times before and maybe some of you guys can help me . . . what has kept Jacob from being in the rotation at Dline so far?

It's not like he was some project we brought in when he signed. He was one of the better recruits in his class and everyone talks about his physical skills and strength, yet he has been one of the least talked about guys the last couple years. That's what caused my a while back to start promoting him for an Oline position because it seems like he's a lot of big strong athlete not to be using somewhere.

TIA

He's still young. I think he'll find more and more playing time in the coming yrs. I think it's more of case that some of the guys who play DT are either upperclassmen or are younger with more raw athleticism. Guys like Lewis, Douglas, Johnson are upperclassmen who have the experience coupled with decent talent. Guys like Elam and Meant are younger, but have freakish raw/athleticism or size that gets them on the field. Hyde has decent size and decent athleticism but not exceptional......is young and has less experience.......I think he'll find more PT in the coming yrs.

I think Hyde redshirted in '13 and last year was injured which kept him from getting many (any?) game snaps. Most people thought he was destined to be switched to offense eventually, but most thought guard not fullback, lol.

kinda concerned about the depth at that position if they are giving practice snaps to Hyde and also our true frosh TE CJ Conrad

I guess he is younger than I thought. Seems like he's been there a while for some reason but I guess he just came in with Stoops.

I think he committed to Phillips and Stoops honored the offer. Don't think he played in '14 due to injury, maybe in time he can get that year back since he had previously RSed.

The rub on him coming out of HS was he did not have much in the technique department. Very strong kid but not sure how quick he is. Being very strong goes only so far at this level. SEC lineman are just a different breed or caliber of player. Takes more than just strength to beat them at the point of attack. He seems like a great kid and hope he can find his niche on this team.

Jojo Kemp on holes opened up by new fullback Jacob Hyde: "Big ones, ones his size."

Stoops says DT Jacob Hyde continues to help at fullback. Said it's been an issue of need, balancing available scholarships.

The way most kids tackle today, can you imagine what a sight we might be treated to if he actually gets a ball sent his way in the flat. A steamroller.

Hahaha. Dawson get Hyde working on receiving on JUGS machine? "The milk-jugs machine? I think he's on that one."

read where stoops said he blew up a couple guys on defense and he wondered how his former "group, defense" took it.

Smashcat, sounds like the answer to your question is YES.
