I have always thought that Vanderbilt had an unfair homecourt advantage with the players and coaches at the end of the floor instead of on the sides. I guess an injured player at Vandy is not "sidelined" rather "endlined." But seriously, communications between players and coaches is almost non stop in todays game and it is difficult when the players backs are to the coach. Of course Vandy is more in tune with this as their team plays 15 or so games a year there plus all the practices while visiting teams play one time per year. They should be made to conform. Are there other teams with benches at end of floor?

Some dude with goop on his finger will be along in a minute to tell you how that's Rupp's fault.

I think it has been a factor in previous years when UK played so many freshmen and the game was earlier in the season. But this year UK has already won a convincing road game against a team better than Vandy, without John Calipari even being on the sideline. Tyler Ulis is a coach on the floor and he has played in this arena before. UK only starts two freshmen and has a more experienced team that can handle the atmosphere there.

I would think that the Vandy coaches and players have the same communication problems as do the visiting teams. Looks like UK is 44-26 in Vandy's gym so I would have to say the layout has not been so much of a problem.

With Ulis on the floor I do not expect the team to get rattled. I just worry about our bigs getting in awful foul trouble and Vandy shooting out of their minds, two things Ulis can't really control.

My thoughts exactly. Plus the change last year that allows coaches to move along the sideline as if the benches where setup as in typical gyms has lessened impact.

I feel good about UK winning this Sat. It depend on how the game is called.

As long as the court is regulation size, the baskets are regulation height, and the place is safe for both players and fans, I don't have any problem with it.

If the layout were such an advantage, why doesn't everyone do it?

With the coaches box being extended down the sideline, amy advantage Vanderbilt had with the benches on the ends has been more or less negated. Obviously, as a Vandy fan, I love the gym, but understand why so many people hate it. I'm sure I would if I wasn't a fan. Either way, best of luck, hoping for a good, injury free, well officiated (if that's possible in the SEC) game.

If the layout was such an advantage Vandy would be in the top 10

It's been that way forever and that's because of the construction of the building. The shot clocks however should be above the backboard like
every place else. No excuse for that.

I think all SEC teams say that the hardest place to play is Vanderbilt. Kentucky is not an easy place to play either for most SEC schools but the Configuration at Vandy does throw most teams off and Coaches have a hard time coaching at Vandy. The one advantage is that Kentucky has the BEST Floor General in College Basketball in Tyler Ulis. If you remember with No Cal at South Carolina Ulis played his Best game of the Season and I thought it was Kentucky's best game of the season. Ulis always has everyone involved in the game and keeps all players focused in the game. If we can continue to play like we have in the last 7 or 8 games even without Willis and bring our A-game Defense we can pull this game out tomorrow. This is a huge game and would be huge win for the Wildcats heading to Florida Tuesday night. If we can win the last 3 and do well in the SEC Tourney we could move up to a #3 Seed maybe #2 Seed if the other Top 10 teams lose and that would probably get us the South Region and possiby playing in Louisville which would give us an advantage to get to our 3rd straight Final Four.

I believe the coaches box has been extended down the sidelines so not as much of an issue as maybe before.

Correct. The coach's box runs down the sideline as far as any other gym now. The only difference these days is the bench location.

My team's home court in high school had both benches on the same end zone and many teams we played had the benches on opposite ends. It never was a big deal to us. I was our team's point guard so it would affect me more than most but it wasn't a big deal. During time outs my coach told me what he wanted run on offense and I had free reign to call plays on my own too. We didn't have all the TV timeouts either and college players are 10,000x more talented than I was so it shouldn't affect them much. In my opinion, using Vandy's layout is just an excuse.
