I know this isn't earth shattering news but Duke will be in for a rude awakening come tournament time.

If we are being honest, so will the vast majority of the SEC. Some will be good enough to absorb the difference in the first round or two and make adjustments, but many will not be able to adjust when they are forced to play a completely different style of defense than has been allowed in the SEC and half their team is in immediate foul trouble. It is a detriment to our conference but those in charge don't seem to care or have any desire to change.

Not if the SC seeds them with a bunch of mid majors and other crap teams in their region. I think Duke will get a little exposed against the top25 teams, but they can certainly man handle the smaller teams. So it will be interesting to see who they draw.

They absolutely spanked Illinois, turns out Illinois sucks too. I thought they were better this year

Hope SEC shows up in March!

With this take, stay consistent. If we are a 4 seed, which is most likely situation, we almost certainly will be in Duke’s bracket. When that happens, you shouldn’t change course and talk about how the tournament committee screwed us. You asked for it.

Theyre a lot better than they were when we played them regardless of who've they played.

Only 4 SEC teams made the tournament in 2012. Didn't affect us.
Yep, some people remove their own heads from their torsos when it comes to Duke. I hate them too, but there will be 67 teams that do not want to play them in March. I for one, want no part of a round two.

Personally, I think people put way too much stock in overall conference strength when evaluating individual teams’ chances in the tournament. It seems like a lot of that notion comes from Gonzaga never quite getting over the hump for a national championship, but it ignores a lot of other evidence to the contrary. All those years of us being the only consistent threat in the SEC didn’t slow us down much. There’s also cases of teams like Butler and FAU making the Final Four out of one-bid leagues, and even Gonzaga themselves have a 9 year streak of going to the Sweet 16 that the blue bloods haven’t been able to match.

As much as I don’t like Duke, they pass both the eye test and the advanced metric test for being an extremely dangerous team right now. This “common sense” take that they’re going to get shell shocked by the level of competition in the tournament and fold early is probably fantasy.

Obviously anything can happen in the tournament. But this Duke is absolutely elite regardless of what conference they play in. They have some of the best advanced analytics in quite some time and have the 2nd best Kenpom Adjusted Efficiency rating of all time.

Everyone here hates Duke and they’re annoying as hell, but this Duke team is incredibly good.

They “appear “ to be . But I saw where they haven’t played a ranked team since Dec 4 . I believe they are good, just hard to say how good.

I’m certainly no Jay Williams fan but he said he was interested to see how the SEC fares in the ncaa tournament because the sec games are called completely different than the rest of the conference.

They have a 15-1 record in conference but 9 games were against teams with a losing record and 2 other games were against teams with a losing record in their conference. What a freaking joke.
I think Duke is up for an upset in the tournament, and I love it. Some team that is not supposed to beat them according to the ESPN lords will step up and take them out.

I too think Duke will be hurt by the lack of quality teams played in conference. But man they decimated what I thought was a at one time good Illinois team.
Seems UI has gotten worse as the season has progressed.

Rest assured it will be a favorable draw. They will probably face a good high school team, a JUCO and a mid major to get to the elite 8

Meh....not gonna say that. They will get their usual favorite whistle. Have a cake region. Flagg is their golden boy this year.

I know the metrics try to account for the level of competition. I'm just not sure there's a good way to adjust for Duke constantly smashing bad teams. There's not a perfect way to quantify how bad Miami is when they're sitting at 2 wins in a historically weak ACC.

Duke is a very good team.
Duke also hasn't been tested in late game situations in conference play.

Both things can be (and are) true.

I think it's entirely possible they get snake bit if they're in a close game in the tournament.

We shall see. I’m not convinced Scheyer is going to get the treatment K got.
