Vanderbilt is gaining steam with Travis Perry

Makes sense. I figured he had no shot at going to Bama after they attacked him over and over again every time they played us.
If Perry is half as good as Phil Cox was, we’re in for a treat. I do like Perry’s offensive game but I saw him get beat a lot on defense this past year. Not positive what role Travis would play, but I’ll be happy to add him to the rotation.
This is what Perry has ahead of him right now:
PG - Frankie Collins and Tyler Tanner
SG - Tyler Harris and Mike James (was at Louisville 2 years ago)
Harris is 6’8, so he’s really a 3, but might be our starting 2 from what we’re hearing.
James is coming off of an injury.
So Perry probably has a good shot at minutes this season as the 3rd string PG or at the 2. Byington loves Point Guards so we’ll play 2 PGs at a time a lot.
Overall, I think I’m very happy to get Perry, he can shoot 3’s and he can help close out games at the line on offensive / defensive substitutions down the stretch.
If I had a guess, Perry will be in the rotation at 15-18 minutes per game.
If we add Perry, I really like our 10 man rotation, very solid.

You may have to Google some of our incoming transfers (I did) but it’s a good looking group on paper with size, length, speed, defense / rebounding.
Yeah, Perry will have to be hidden when he’s on the court. I’ve always said you can hide one weak defensive player, you can’t hide two! So as long as we have a long lineup on the court around Perry, he may be an asset.
I just don't understand SEC coaches being high on him Yes, he can shoot. But he can't defend in this league, at least not yet. I think if he stays in the SEC he will struggle.

If you look at our roster, we have a really good group but adding a shooter was clearly the last priority. Shooters who can’t defend won’t cost you much and Perry does have some upside.
Honestly, he’s a really good add as a bottom of the rotation guy who can handle the rock, shoots it well and can make free throws. The more I think about it, the more I love it. Like I’ve mentioned, I know we wanted him out of high school.
Go ahead and cede Eddyville to Illinois or whoever....

Lacking a future as a pro, a Vandy degree will serve him well. I wish he wasn't leaving but I do wish him nothing but the best.
Vandy would be a good landing spot for Perry. He’d probably still get a warm ovation when he comes to Rupp.
Perry could be a good piece in time, but I honestly believe with his physical limits and his current game he would be better getting a lot of minutes at a mid major right now. I will root for his success and hope he is better than I believe.

Anyone can shoot. He hasn't been a maker in college yet. He won't get good looks against sec teams because they will stay on him. He will struggle to make shots against superior athleticism and talent.
It's unfortunate, but probably a lot of truth to this statement. I wish Perry insane success. I just don't see how it's gonna be in the SEC. I think he will have the occasional "good game", but overall, he seems to be a guy destined for a place like VA Tech after transferring.
can I try out for Vanderbilt? Didn't know they were so hard up for 6' former high school legends who average 2 points a game.
From what you're saying it looks like he might not be playing that much more than he would at Kentucky, which makes me wonder why is he even transferring? I doubt Vandy is giving him any more NIL than what he's already getting. I hate that he's leaving but Vandy is a school that I like since it's closer to me than Kentucky is. I hope he does well. Kentucky high school sharp shooters have done well there through the years.
Yeah, I doubt he plays a ton but he’ll play some. Byington is good at carving out roles for players and I bet he wants Perry for a few different roles (situational shooting, free throw shooting, ball handling, etc).
But I agree that he won’t play a good bit more at Vandy than he would have at UK unless we have injuries.
If Perry goes to another sec school I hope he plays a lot. Automatic advantage Cats.
Vandy is where I thought he might end up. There’s a long history of kids from western KY playing at Vandy.

I believe guys can get better. But he's going to take a ton of lumps in this league. I also believe there's a chance it's who he is defensively. Time will tell.
And dudes quoting ancient players here. 30 to 45 years ago. Generally when u have to fmgo back that length of time that's a telling sign.
He will probably be back for his senior year at UK. A couple years at Vandy might do him good.
Considering college basketball is one year at a time, who tf knows?
We returned 1 player from the 24 to the 25 team. This year, we returned 3 total players.
If we sign Travis, I’ll look forward to watching him play this upcoming season, kids don’t stay long.
