Listened to radio station and they had a guy on from Knoxville and he said UT paid $4.2 for Ament. He had heard Kentucky would spend $11-12 million for the entire team. In contrast he said UT paid $200K for Dalton Kneche. He also said Rodney Rice was offered $1.8 million by UT but USC offered over $3.2 million.

That's a ton of money for a kid who will probably average 12 points, 5 rebounds, and shoot below 45% from the field. UT will be taking a big step back next season. Same for Auburn, Bama, and Florida.

Have fun with the big name, UT.

Meanwhile, we'll enjoy our #1 seed in March.

This is just me but if I’m paying 4 mill for somebody it better be somebody who has the production of a player like haggerty

I don't care how much money I have, at some point it would get old handing 18-22 year old dudes millions without much in return.

Props to the big boosters out there.

I live in Knoxville and had heard they paid him around $300k at the time. It makes sense as top portal players didn’t make as much two years ago. Knecht was also highly thought of but no one foresaw him being what he was

UK should have ponied up. Thanks Mitch and Cal.

$4.2M!!!??? I think I'd have to play the BS card.
Nobody is asking about the terms. Always ask, "What are the terms? (Over how many years?)"

Tennessee gave a $1.2m deal to the QB that transferred from UCLA. He is expected to be UT's starting QB. Do we really think that UT's starting QB is getting offered 28.5% of a freshman basketball player?

They refused to pay Nico more than $2.5m. No way they gave that per year to Ament.

4.2m.. better hope he's as good as billed. Something tells me it won't be Tennessee getting this kids full potentialt, it will be whoever has him for year 2 or 3.

No way in hell they paid $4.2 million for Ament. These numbers are all extremely inflated. It benefits everyone, the player, the agent, and the school to make the number larger than it really is.

In an article I read.. Nate said they would win the championship next year 🤭 said “ coach said the offense will run through me “ lol.. Can’t make a FF, how the hell you gonna win a championship? 🤔
I think Barnes was saying everyone else’s offense was gonna run through Ament. I bet JQ is healing up nice just thinking about that stick rotating on D 😂

100%

Anyone that believes they gave Ament $4 million is a moron.

He will be injured and preparing for the draft by mid sec play.

Which is why the current system, for lack of a better word, can’t continue as is.

Don't think PER YEAR will matter. He won't be there but one year.

Being in the argument for the best offensive player in college would definitely be a hard thing to predict. But there were posters on this site in April 2023 agreeing that Knecht would end up being a better SF in the SEC than Edwards, the #1 ranked incoming freshman by some of the recruiting sites. Just as a slew of PFs from the portal will be better than Ament this upcoming season. So, paying Ament anything close to what was stated here would seem to be some kind of marketing or vanity play because I don't think it makes any sense from a value perspective.

I would bet that Ament did not get that amount of money and if he had chosen us you would be praising to the sky how wonderful and special Ament is. I hope our coaches don't think TN, Auburn, Bama, and Florida have taken a step back for next year. We hope but we have zero clue how we will be next year. We may have a cluster of talent that can't or won't play as a close knit team. It is sad we have zero respect for our opponents. I personally think next year the SEC will be as strong or stronger than last year. We damn better not sleep on TX and Ole Miss either

That's not really the point.

Reports of these deals can have a multi-year term attached to the full value amount. If Ament's deal has multiple years attached to earning the supposed $4.2m, then how much is he actually being paid for one year? That's the real number that matters.

So you think Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, and Florida will all have final four level rosters again like they did this year?

You are probably more optimistic about their rosters than their own coaches are.

Edgar,
1. Our coaches won’t underestimate any of our SEC foes.
2. Agree we won’t know the strength of our team until the season gets underway.
3. Don’t know where you came up with we have zero respect for our opponents. Posters on this site? Maybe a few but definitely not the majority!

Who cares what the price is? Why does it matter?
Part of that will be the worry about how much more is it going to cost in 2 more years, a jump like that. Are we saying by 2030 we see rosters topping out at 75 mil for college basketball teams. Also you pay that much, you think things like merch and ticket prices, heck even concession prices are not going to skyrocket?
