USA v Iran game thread. Maybe official, maybe not

Ok my impressions:
Reddish was best player on the court today, I hope we have a shot at him. Although he may be a lil Andrew Wiggins, i.e. Soft.

Teams in the NBA missed on Hammi! He is gonna be a special player and we are gonna love his game.

PJ was the best big out there! He looked more mobile and great going to the basket, his 3rd quarter dunk had NBA written all over it. Cal will do with him what he Did with AD and KAT, or maybe I should sy Kenny, build his on the block game. He may be as good as they were in the post while at UK.

Give me Quickly at the point next year and I'll be happy. I hope he really is ours!

Langford showed he is in the conversation for next years best player. I glad Lou is still in on him giving them reason to watch. It will make it sweeter when he joins the BBN.

Lou King did a lot of good things--didn't shoot it great, but ended up with 9 pts, 7 Reb, and 5 assists. Kind of guy who makes winning plays that a team needs--deflections, loose balls, energy/activity. Can see why UK is recruiting Reddish/King as a package.

Initial impression is to replace Quickley in starting lineup with Carsen Edwards from Purdue. Quickley is overwhelmed a bit, let him get some minutes off the bench/confidence up. Edwards can make shots and spaces floor better.

Wiley is big/muscular but is god awful on defensive end (McCoy was best big on team in terms of defensive presence). He is going to be a great scorer for Auburn this year. His lateral mobility and slow to react defense is bad. He is a one ender, just as he was for them this past year.

Langford was not in after his 30 foot open gym FGA. Wonder if he rolled an ankle?

Reddish was as expected (I think he's #2 player in country with only Bagley ahead of him)

Once they get used to the rotations on their run/jump pressure they'll be really fun to watch.

Hamidou Diallo form on jumpshot is greatly improved. Scary to think of he/Knox/Vanderbilt/Washington on court with whomever else you want in terms of length/playing passing lanes.

PJ Washington is what I think UK fans wanted/expected Alex Poythress to be. He's got more ball skills already then Poythress does now--not the athlete that Poythress was but a better player overall. I love flexibility he/Vanderbilt will provide UK against zones being able to hurt defenses at top of key with their ability to drive/pass/distribute. I actually like Vanderbilt more in open court as a decision maker/leading break out of the two but that's not a knock on PJ--it's a compliment to Jarred. Going to be a really fun team to watch and one thing UK fans get spoiled with--Cal gives you different types of teams to watch and as a Basketball fan it's so fun to watch. Big/Small/Fast/Halfcourt, Defensive oriented, race up and down....press (This year's team can be his best fullcourt pressing team he's ever had)

Enjoy it!

Thank you for you for your input and comments on today's game. I enjoyed watching the game today. No announcers with players names was hard for me to follow who was doing what. How many of those playing for the USA are uncommitted for the coming season? Looking forward to the new season of Wildcat basketball.

Will repeat this again...Austin Wiley will be a PROBLEM. Likely have to double team because Richards will need help on him. He has grown NBA C strength and power
Saw nothing from Wiley that would indicate that 7ft 250 lb Richards would have to have help with Wiley based on playing against a horrible Iran team Of course Diallo Washington didn't get benched for terrible play like you said either. Cal subbed like that to keep his players fresh bit don't go on to correct yourself. Washington got into Foul trouble based on some terrible officiating. Both UK players played well and Washington played better than Wiley so if Duke has the unfortunate task of meeting Uk in the tourney they will need to double team Washington.

I think Wenyen beats him out for PF with his defense, rebounding, energy and knowing what to expect from college competition though but P.J will still play a lot.

PJW will be ahead of Wenyen by the end of the first practice. As a coaches kid his understanding of the game is the exact opposite of WG.

Man Washington is not what I was expecting. He is much more of a SF/PF than a true center. He looks much better facing the basket and driving than posting up.
He isn't a center. He can play center tho just cause he can play face up doesn't mean he can't post up he actually does both. He was just doing what coach asked him to do

After the benching Diallo and P.J stepped their game up in the second half. That's a very encouraging responses to adversity. Reddish looks ready to step into college and produce now.

P.J is going to look good as a stretch four for UK. I think Wenyen beats him out for PF with his defense, rebounding, energy and knowing what to expect from college competition though but P.J will still play a lot. The competition for that 3/4 is going to be intense
He didn't bench them he subbed like that the whole game he knows he needs to keep players fresh hell Washington was playing well he got in foul trouble he did the exact same thing in the second half u just made a fool of yourself acting like they weren't playing good then went out and stuffed the stat sheet in limited time.

So you have seen how much Gabriel has improved? Cause unless his confidence is way better no way is he beating out Washington based on anything we have seen so far Washington is a leader. Did u even watch? Funny did the guys get benched the last 6 min too? Lol second half had the exact same substitution pattern

UK players Hamidou Diallo #8 and PJ Washington #14

Non UK college players: Payton Pritchard of Oregon #4, Carsen Edwards of Purdue #6 (was AAU teammate of DeAaron Fox and Jarred Vanderbilt), #10 Kevin Huerter of Maryland (very good shooter who struggled a bit today), #9 Josh Okogie of Georgia Tech, Austin Wiley of Auburn #12, and Brandon McCoy of UNLV #15.

SLB, these are the HS players on the team: Immanuel Quickley #5, Cameron Reddish #7, Louis King #11, and Romeo Langford #13. All are undecided. Quickley is a heavy lean to UK (likely their first commitment of '18 class). King wants to go to UK and plays with Reddish on Team Final on the Nike EYBL Circuit/AAU. Reddish is a UK/Duke battle. He's from same HS as Mohamed Bamba (Westtown Prep). Langford is more open--but has Duke, Louisville, IU, in addition to UK.

Another young man to watch in this tournament is Canada's RJ Barrett (he's going to re-classify to '18 in August). He wears #6 for Canada (I believe) and had 20 pts and 11 rebs today in their blowout win over Mali. Barrett is very close with Jamal Murray and his father was a player at St. John's (Rowan Barrett).

It's weird without the announcers, but for a Summer game, I enjoy the lack of TV timeouts as the trade off. Also laugh at how there is a "Swish" sound effect when 3pt shots go in and FT are attempted. It's really weird. lol
