USA soccer

McKennie needs to be/stay healthy. He's the glue from one end to the other. We're the youngest team in tourney and by a good amount. I'd say that bodes well for the future but I say that every 4 years.
We ll be top 5 in the world by 26.

Louisville City plays San Antonio in USL Championship @ 830 est on ESPN2 for those interested.

On USMNT, think leaving group stage is our ceiling. Backline is sus. Forwards are too raw. Adam’s and McKinney need to play out of their minds in the middle
That first game will tell us if we get out of group stage. Wales is a must win. A loss would be catastrophic a draw leaves it up in the air. We can win a game in knockout but i don’t have much faith in berhalter to do what it would take which is play a mf heavy game with numbers in front of the ball to get to pks. Berhalter is gonna ride the 4-3-3 to hell

Yep. Totally agree. It's win game 1 or bust

I would tend to agree but until our "best" players are all getting full runs at upper tier teams, and among the top 3 or 4 on team, we've got a way to go.

McKennie is, Pulisic isn't. Turner isn't.
Reyna and Weah need to stay healthy.
Sargent, Aronson and Adams are not at top tier clubs.

Again, they are young. So, good things can happen.

Leeds is mid-pack in the best league & Aronson starting over & over. Pretty dang high to me. Then there's Scally just getting started at decent MG & playing all the time. No issue with those experiences for me. Same with Musah at Val for me. Honestly don't know whether Pulisic is out of place at Chel or overrated. But pretty decent regardless if not a star.

The soccer heads in and around what qualifies for punditry in the US are of the mindset that Berhalter's roster selection centers around making this a more classic USMNT World Cup squad. If it was still Build out of the Back so much equity wouldn't have been given to Turner because that is where he is weak relative to the other GKs in the pool...and Japan showed us the disaster it would have been if we stuck to the same principles going into the WC. I think that is also a big reason Ream was brought in...better passer than any of the existing CBs. If he was a slave to high pressing he would almost certainly stick 4-3-3 with McKennie and Musah higher instead of what is shaping up to be a double pivot with Adams and Musah and with that double pivot realistic cover for a Reyna or Arronson as a center mid--a position that both players are playing with their clubs for extended runs.

This is shaping up to be a more classic US attacking approach of absorb pressure and counterattack. An Adams/Musah double pivot looks to me to be spine and attack wreckers of the American squad for the World Cup; it also frees Reyna up a little bit given the quality of cover and range those two provide. McKennie's form and sparse play due to injury may have afforded us an opportunity to see something we've craved and that is a healthy Reyna in the center in an attacking capacity.

Beat Wales and Iran and they move to the knockout stage. England likely to win Group B which mean the US plays the Group A winner, most likely the Netherlands.

With so little prep time the whole thing is a crap shoot. It's not out of the question we lose to Wales & neat England.

Can somebody explain that first goal offsides against Ecuador for me?
It wasn’t offsides. They wanted to spin it so Qatar got something out of their 240 billion investment. FIFA is corrupt and maybe USA can buy a copa mundial next time around.

The call was based on when the ball was played in. The first ball. They used some sort of animation to show an Ecuadorian with his foot in an offsides position. The animation was generated because in the actual play that did not occur. When the ball was played clearly there were 2 maybe 3 players between the attacker and the goal. It was the first ball they called it on not the second and it was a sham to try and give Qatar a shot. Thankfully Ecuador was able to put it on Qatar and keep the officials out of it. The pk if that had not been called it would have been even more obvious so they had no choice. It was a really bad way to start the tournament

I immediately called an ex South American professional soccer player and he had no idea what that call was.

It’s because what they tried to spin it as did not happen. If you can watch it again to justify the call they used an animation which means they could not back the call with an actual replay. It was some next level fifaesque cheating

Announcers were saying something about the keeper. Still would like an actual explanation. But I agree, first thing I said was they paid off FIFA, now they paid off refs.

When the GK came out to play the ball, he put scorer offside & he never got back on. Admit I would never ever see that but they showed it on the VAR replay. Strange.

I’ve been watching soccer and playing soccer since Argentina won the World Cup in 78. I heard the announcers talking about the keeper, but I don’t think I’ve seen that call in my entire life.

Reward the goalie for going out and screwing it up? Really glad Ecuador won that game. And makes me wonder what else is in store for this World Cup as far as officials are concerned.

No he didn’t. There were two defenders between the player and the goal. The goalkeeper is irrelevant. 2 defender between the attacker when the ball is played. Not after it was played. I haven’t talked to a fifa certified official today who thought it was a legit call. The var showed nothing so they drummed up the animation with the guys foot seemingly offsides and the broadcast crew went along with the narrative. It was a fifa certified ref who brought up qatars 240b investment into the WC to me. It was an investment they expect a return on.

Look at the pics here. The animation shows the exact moment of the actual play above. When that play was challenged inside the 18 the ball has been released well before the keeper moved to this position. It was a bs call. Yeah that guys leg is in an offside position if it were before the ball was sent in. It wasn’t clearly the keeper came out to make a play. It’s also debatable with a 3rd defender holding him on.

Remember what was the position of the attacker when the ball was played in off the free kick? The screen shot and var show well after the ball was sent in. Try to find a video of the entire sequence. I don’t think you will be able to from any sports media outlet. It was swept under bc Ecuador dominated. It was a very shady way to get this corruptest of all world cups started.

Contract is up and nothing to be done until investigation over.
Reyna and Berhalter were best friends, best man at wedding.
Think Berhalter was 19 or 20 when it happened. He is 49. Move on.
Reyna is worthless.

Yea he obviously worked things out but cancel culture has no statute of limitations.

Not sure how they can co-exist now. I think they have to get rid of Berhalter now.
