Hazelwood struggling here giving up back to back doubles off the wall. The first hitter fell rounding third and kept them from scoring a run. He then gets back to back strikeouts. A grounder to first base goes 3-1 to end the inning and Hazelwood gets out of the 6th unscathed. Great pitching job there. 8-2 UK as we go to the 7th.
Minnesota also got a big win over St. Johns (35) and that helped them rump 7 ranks in the RPI. UNC also lost to UNCW. The Tarheels have struggled over the past several weeks, losing midweek games to Coastal Carolina and UNCW and losing the weekend series to Duke. I suppose that it is more forgivable given that these are all road games.
UCONN losing is good for us (They are a contender to host), as is UCLA losing (same). Southern Miss is a fringe contender, but wouldn't mind them losing either.
We're clearly ahead of TAMU in the pecking order, but their RPI is higher than ours, so wouldn't hurt my feelings if they lose.
Auburn neck and neck with us to win a host site. Go Troy.
I think UConn lost their hosting bid this weekend after losing to Houston two of three. This lost to Rhode Island somewhat steals it. They can possibly get it back with a series win against East Carolina, but I don't see that happening.
UCLA has lost 7 of their last 8. I don't see how they can host after that. With Stanford and Oregon State getting hosting sites, I don't think that the committee will be too pressed to give another one to the West Coast.
Southern Miss was a bit of a contender, but they lost 2 of 3 to Lousiana Tech this weekend at home and then this loss (if it holds up) will really hurt. They have an RPI of 39, so it is unlikely they get such a nod.
Marshall starts off the 7th with a strikeout. Dawson gobbles up a grounder to short for the second out of the inning. Becker laid out in shallow center, but couldn't get the line drive and it goes for a single. Grounder to short ends the 7th. UK still leads 8-2 going to the 8th.
Texas is on the cusp of hosting, but I don't think they have enough games on the schedule to get high enough to really warrant it. They play TCU this weekend who has an RPI of 65 and that could boost them, but that will end their season. They have no conference tournament.
Jacksonville is also a contender, but I just don't think they get that nod. They are 4-8 against RPI top 50 and they cancelled tonight's game against another RPI top 50 team which might have helped them had they won.
I think UK has to worry about Auburn, TAMU, Minnesota, and NC State. I think we are ahead of TAMU and proably behind Auburn. I think Minnesota probably gets a bit of a nod because there aren't many northern schools who have the resumes to host. NC State is playing pretty well and they have a chance to jump in the rankings this weekend when they host Florida State.
I think UK is clearly ahead of Texas, but D1baseball today says that Texas and Oklahoma State are next in line to host. I don't agree, I think UT resume is weak, so not sure why they would be that close to the cut line.
They are 9-13 against RPI top 50 and they won't get anymore RPI top 50 wins this year unless someone they already played gets into the top 50. Basically, the only good they've done this inning is win against Big 12 teams.
Lewis hit by a pitch and advances to second on a wild pitch. Dawson with a grounder up the middle scores two more to put UK up 14-2.
