UK vs Murray State ...

Dawson has another quality at bat. Seems so mature and patient at the plate. Pompey the hits a first pitch grand slam!

Aklinski draws a walk and Lewis, as usually happens, he follows up the great defense with a single through the right side to put runners on the corners. Dawson has the Racers a bit worried with his ability to bunt the baseball. He has squared a couple of times. Lewis advances to second on a ball in the dirt and he draws a 4 pitch walk. POMPEY HITS A GRAND SLAM!!!! 7-2 UK!!! This one a big time fly to deep right down the line!!

The guy they are bringing in averages two hits per inning pitched. Could be exciting.

Cottam grounds out to short for the second out of the inning. With a 3-1 count on Becker Murray is going to make an emergency pitching change because of a possible injury to their pitcher who is holding his right arm.

Great news for Squires. The streak ends. I wonder how long they are going to leave Holden in?

Becker walked and Heyer gets plunked on the arm to put runners on second and first. Squires finally breaks out of his funk a bit and singles through the right side scoring Becker and putting UK up 8-2. He then follows that up by stealing second to put runners at second and third.

Combs grounds out to second to end the inning. UK leading 8-2 going to the bottom of the 6th.

Hazelwood struggling here giving up back to back doubles off the wall. The first hitter fell rounding third and kept them from scoring a run. He then gets back to back strikeouts. A grounder to first base goes 3-1 to end the inning and Hazelwood gets out of the 6th unscathed. Great pitching job there. 8-2 UK as we go to the 7th.

Minnesota also got a big win over St. Johns (35) and that helped them rump 7 ranks in the RPI. UNC also lost to UNCW. The Tarheels have struggled over the past several weeks, losing midweek games to Coastal Carolina and UNCW and losing the weekend series to Duke. I suppose that it is more forgivable given that these are all road games.

UCONN losing is good for us (They are a contender to host), as is UCLA losing (same). Southern Miss is a fringe contender, but wouldn't mind them losing either.

We're clearly ahead of TAMU in the pecking order, but their RPI is higher than ours, so wouldn't hurt my feelings if they lose.

Auburn neck and neck with us to win a host site. Go Troy.

Nice recovery by Hazelwood. He keeps this up and he'll pass Harper for 6th on the ERA list.

UNC gets a pass from the baseball pundits every year. They sucked to start the year, got hot, but their losses are always forgiven (so it seems). Can't understand why they are a lock to host.

Great recovery By hazelwood after starting out with trouble. Game is official now, 6 innings complete (not sure if there is weather in the area or not, but this makes me feel good that all of these runs are not all for naught).

I think UConn lost their hosting bid this weekend after losing to Houston two of three. This lost to Rhode Island somewhat steals it. They can possibly get it back with a series win against East Carolina, but I don't see that happening.

UCLA has lost 7 of their last 8. I don't see how they can host after that. With Stanford and Oregon State getting hosting sites, I don't think that the committee will be too pressed to give another one to the West Coast.

Southern Miss was a bit of a contender, but they lost 2 of 3 to Lousiana Tech this weekend at home and then this loss (if it holds up) will really hurt. They have an RPI of 39, so it is unlikely they get such a nod.

Quick 7th for UK. Aklinksi struck out, Lewis lined out to right and Dawson flied out to third. Marshall now coming in to pitch for UK.

I agree with all of this, though I like getting some insurance. With UCONN tanking last weekend and tonight, we can now freely root for them to beat ECU which would help us to move in front of ECU.

Marshall starts off the 7th with a strikeout. Dawson gobbles up a grounder to short for the second out of the inning. Becker laid out in shallow center, but couldn't get the line drive and it goes for a single. Grounder to short ends the 7th. UK still leads 8-2 going to the 8th.

Texas is on the cusp of hosting, but I don't think they have enough games on the schedule to get high enough to really warrant it. They play TCU this weekend who has an RPI of 65 and that could boost them, but that will end their season. They have no conference tournament.

Jacksonville is also a contender, but I just don't think they get that nod. They are 4-8 against RPI top 50 and they cancelled tonight's game against another RPI top 50 team which might have helped them had they won.

I think UK has to worry about Auburn, TAMU, Minnesota, and NC State. I think we are ahead of TAMU and proably behind Auburn. I think Minnesota probably gets a bit of a nod because there aren't many northern schools who have the resumes to host. NC State is playing pretty well and they have a chance to jump in the rankings this weekend when they host Florida State.

New pitcher has only pitched 3 innings all season and Pompey says hello.

Cottam battles and draws a full count walk and Pompey steals third. Becker singles to right to score Pompey and put UK up 9-2. Heyer then pops up to second. New pitcher for the Racers.

I think UK is clearly ahead of Texas, but D1baseball today says that Texas and Oklahoma State are next in line to host. I don't agree, I think UT resume is weak, so not sure why they would be that close to the cut line.

Squires reaches on an error and then a wild pitch scores Cottam and moves everyone up 90 feet. 10-2 UK. Combs struck out. He's struggling to find the hits today. Aklinski then triples to right center to score 2 more runs with 2 outs and we're 12-2 now.

Great to see bats come alive tonight. Let's hope the Cats close it out and keep the bats going in Nashville.

They are 9-13 against RPI top 50 and they won't get anymore RPI top 50 wins this year unless someone they already played gets into the top 50. Basically, the only good they've done this inning is win against Big 12 teams.

Lewis hit by a pitch and advances to second on a wild pitch. Dawson with a grounder up the middle scores two more to put UK up 14-2.

Love seeing UK open up a can of whoopass on Murray. We dilly dally around a lot on these midweek games, so it's great to see us have a dominant outing tonight. Well done boys. 14-2 Cats.

Totally agree. To me, they're a clear 2 seed in the tourney, not sure how it's even close.
